Brooke Fraser Wiki/Bio

Fraser is the middle child of three children born to former All Black Bernie Fraser, who was born in Lautoka, Fiji, and his wife Lynda. Fraser is the eldest of three brothers and sisters. Her father is of Fijian, Portuguese, and Scottish origin, and she has one brother. She has two brothers: Matthew, who resides in Wellington, and Shea, who lives in Dunedin. She is the youngest of three children.

Before coming to Wellington, Frazer grew up in Naenae, a suburb of Lower Hutt, where he attended Dyer Street School, Naenae Intermediate School, and Naenae College. When Fraser was seven years old, his mother signed him up for piano lessons. She began creating songs when she was twelve years old and trained herself to play the acoustic guitar when she was fifteen.

She began writing for the Soul Purpose magazine when she was fifteen years old and was later promoted to the position of editor in 2002. Soon after relocating to Auckland in late 2002, she decided to leave her work as an editor in order to concentrate on her music career. Fraser got a multi-album deal with Sony Music in 2002, when he was 18 years old, following a vigorous bidding war between record labels.

New Zealand singer-songwriter Brooke Fraser is best known for her 2010 hit track “Something in the Water,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Fraser recorded two studio albums with Columbia Records, What to Do with Daylight (2003) and Albertine (2006), before securing a recording contract with Wood + Bone. Flags, her third studio album, was released in 2010 and has proven to be her most commercially successful yet.

Her most recent studio album, Brutal Romantic, was released in November 2014 by Vagrant Records, which she co-founded. The Australian Christian music group Hillsong Worship recruited Fraser in 2005 and she remained a member until 2010; she rejoined the group in 2016 after being recognized as the songwriter.

Her married name Brooke Ligertwood was recognized as the lead vocalist for the Grammy-winning song “What a Beautiful Name.” “Hosanna,” “Better,” “Who You Say I Am,” “King of Kings,” and “Awake My Soul” are some of the other well-known songs written and performed by Fraser (both with Hillsong Worship and as a solo artist).

When Fraser’s first studio album, What to Do with Daylight, was released in New Zealand in late 2003, it debuted at No. 1 on the charts and was certified platinum the following week. In the end, the record was certified seven times platinum, with more than 105,000 copies sold in New Zealand alone.

It remained at the top of the album charts for a total of sixty-six weeks. The album’s five singles were all charted in the top twenty of the New Zealand Singles Chart when it was released. Her album also debuted at number one on the New Zealand Top 50 Albums chart for the entire year 2004. In addition, the album was certified gold in the country of Australia.

When Fraser’s album What to Do with Daylight was released, the singer went on a tour with American musician John Mayer, and then went on a tour with legendary English rock artist David Bowie, who also performed in New Zealand. In 2005, Fraser travelled to Rwanda before travelling to Tanzania to visit her World Vision sponsored children. This trip served as a springboard for her subsequent album composition and preparation.

A child genocide survivor (called Albertine) whom Fraser met while travelling in Rwanda inspired Fraser to write the song “Albertine.” This song was chosen as the title track for her second studio album. Fraser made the decision to assemble a new group of American session musicians for this album, who had previously performed with a diverse range of prominent performers, both live and on record.

Fraser and the band went into the studio in Los Angeles in 2006 to record the album with producer Marshall Altman, which was released in 2007. When the debut song, “Deciphering Me,” was released in 2006, it peaked at No. 4 on the New Zealand singles chart. New Zealand’s Albertine album was published on the 4th of December 2006. It went on to attain double-platinum status less than a month after it was first made available.

The album was released on the 31st of March 2007 in Australia and other countries around the world. In Australia, it debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week on 9 April and has gained Gold sales certification. Albertine was also Fraser’s first film in the United States, which was released on May 27, 2008. It debuted at No. 90 on the Billboard 200 chart on July 19, 2008.

After being selected as an Editor’s Choice on iTunes, the album’s sales were driven by online purchases. Fraser embarked on a large world tour in 2008, which culminated with performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, United Kingdom. In 2007, the single “Albertine” was awarded the prestigious APRA Silver Scroll for Song of the Year, the highest honour in the music industry.

Career

New Zealand, Australia, and North America were the first countries to receive the album, which was recorded at East West Studios in Hollywood in the middle of 2010. Fraser celebrated with a series of sold-out tours across the globe. Flags debuted at No. 1 on the New Zealand album chart, No. 3 on the Australian album chart, and No. 59 on the Billboard 200 album chart in the United States.

Flags have been certified Gold in Australia and 3x Platinum in New Zealand, where it was also the sixth-best-selling album of the year in both countries. The first single, “Something in the Water,” achieved widespread radio success around the world; it was particularly successful on BBC Radio 2 A-list rotation in the top 10 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, and Belgium, and it is a gold single in Germany and Italy.

The second single, “Something in the Water,” also achieved widespread radio success. In New Zealand, where it spent 21 weeks at the top of the singles chart, the record received double-platinum sales. Flags were released in Europe in July 2011 and debuted at No. 6 on the album charts in Germany, No. 33 in Austria, and No. 24 in Switzerland, among other countries.

Flags remained in the German top twenty at No. 13 a month after its debut, and “Something in the Water” remained in the top ten of the singles charts at No. 8. Flags were released in Hungary in October 2011 and peaked at No. 15 on the country’s national album chart in the second week of its availability. Flags were later released on 7 November 2011 in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland, as well as other countries.

Glide Magazine wrote the following about Flags in their review: “Flags, Brooke Fraser’s third novel, is a marvel of literature. Everything about this album is stunning, from the stunning lyrical imagery throughout to the impressive guest vocalists who join her (including the Cary Brothers, Jon Foreman, and Aqualung), from the stunning lyrical imagery throughout to the impressive guest vocalists who join her (including the Cary Brothers, Jon Foreman, and Aqualung), from the stunning guest vocalists who join her (including the Cary Brothers.

Fraser’s ethereal and breathy performances to the wide-ranging soundscapes. It is one of the more remarkable achievements of 2010.” Following the success of Flags, Fraser secured a recording contract with Vagrant Records and began work on her fourth studio album, which is currently being recorded. Fraser published a “taster track” named “Psychosocial” on SoundCloud on August 13, 2014, as part of his ongoing “taster track” series.

Fraser’s artistic style changed with the release of the song, as she transitioned away from more acoustic and singer-songwriter-based tracks and into more electronic sounds. Her single “Kings and Queens” was released to radio on September 22nd, 2014, and was made available for digital download on September 26th of the same year. On the first of October, she revealed that her fourth studio album, Brutal Romantic, will be released the following month.

The album was released on November 14, 2014, in Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia, and on November 17, 2014, in the United States and Canada. With the exception of the single “Magical Machine,” which was produced by Fraser, David Kosten, and Dan Wilson, the album was produced entirely by Fraser and David Kosten.

A fundraising supergroup known as #KiwisCureBatten performed a song named “Team, Ball, Player, Thing” in September 2015. Fraser was a member of the group. In 2015, it was the official fans’ song of the All Blacks during their appearance at the Rugby World Cup.

It was also in support of Batten disease research, which was carried out by the New Zealand charity Cure Kids. On September 11, 2015, it was made available as a single. The single debuted at No. 6 on the New Zealand Top 40 list the next day, just one day after its release.

What to Do with Daylight, released in late 2003, debuted at the top of the New Zealand pop charts and went on to achieve platinum status seven times. While in Los Angeles, Fraser worked on his next album, “Albertine,” which was likewise released in December 2006 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

Albertine was a multi-platinum hit in Fraser’s home country of Canada, and it charted well abroad, achieving gold status in Australia and breaking into the Top 100 in the United States, but not being as popular as What to Do with Daylight. Flags were released in 2010, marking Fraser’s debut album as a new Los Angeles resident and garnering her first number one song, the upbeat “Something in the Water,” which peaked at number one.

Fraser swept the board at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards, taking home awards for Album of the Year, Best Pop Album, Single of the Year, Best Female Artist, and the People’s Choice Award. Fraser’s album and single had received widespread praise, and the following year she cleaned up at the awards ceremony.

Fraser returned to the studio in 2014, following 18 months of writing in various locations around the world, to begin work on her fourth studio album, which she co-produced with David Kosten. After recording at his West London studio and orchestral work at the famed Abbey Road Studios, Fraser decided to go for a more experimental sound than she had on her previous albums for the release of her third album. The album Brutal Romantic was released in the latter part of 2014.
