He was a participant for the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Due to Brett Lawrie’s oblique injury, Hechavarria debuted at third base.

Hechavarria’s first game was his debut, and he ended it with a score of 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and one walk.[8] On August 7, Hechavarria recorded his first hit of his professional career while playing against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Jays brought Hechavarria back to Las Vegas on August 25, the same day Yunel Escobar returned to the team after taking paternity leave. On August 26, Hechavarria was brought back into the lineup because José Bautista and David Cooper were placed on the injured list.

On August 28, 2012, while playing against the New York Yankees, Hechavarria hit the first home run of his professional career. It was a solo drive off of starter Phil Hughes. Hechavarria, Henderson Alvarez, Jeff Mathis, Yunel Escobar, Jake Marisnick, Anthony DeSclafani, and Justin Nicolino were all included in the deal that sent Hechavarria to the Miami Marlins on November 19, 2012. Hechavarria was ranked 82 on the Major League Baseball (MLB) Top Prospects list on January 29, 2013. Due to discomfort in his throwing arm, the Marlins decided to put Hechavarria on the 15-day injured list after the first 14 games of the 2013 season. Hechavarria was sent to the Tampa Bay Rays on June 26, 2017, by the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league players Braxton Lee and Ethan Clark. Additionally, he holds the record for the Rays club with 71 games in a row without making an error. The decision to designate Hechavarria for assignment was made on August 1, 2018, to make room on the roster for the freshly acquired Tommy Pham.

In a trade on August 6, 2018, the Pittsburgh Pirates acquired Hechavarria in exchange for the minor league rights to right-handed pitcher Matt Seelinger. In addition, the Pirates earned monetary consideration for their part in the deal. On August 31, 2018, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees agreed to a deal in which the Yankees would get Hechavarria in exchange for a player who would be announced later. Hechavarria participated in the 2018 American League Wild Card Game for the first time on October 3, 2018, his first playoff game.

After Miguel Andujar was taken out of the game for defensive purposes in the sixth inning, he came in as a defensive substitute. Hechavarria signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets on February 18, 2019, which included an invitation to spring training. Hechavarria exercised an opt-out option in his contract on May 3, when the Mets picked his contract to add to their Major League Baseball roster. On August 9, he was “designated for assignment” to make place for Joe Panik, who had just been signed as a second baseman.

Hechavarria was signed by the Atlanta Braves on August 16, 2019, to replace the shortstop void left by the injury of Dansby Swanson. Swanson is now on the disabled list. In 61 at-bats with the Braves in 2018, he had a batting line of 328/.400/.639, which included four home runs and 15 RBIs.In 2019, he had a combined batting line of 241/.299/.443 with nine home runs and 33 runs batted in for both of his clubs. The Braves re-signed Hechavarra to a one-year agreement for $1 million on January 16, 2020. The contract begins immediately.

Before being let loose by the Braves on March 22, Hechavarria had a terrible spring training, going 1-for-11 at the plate.

Earlier this month, Hechavarra was recognized as the FloBaseball Player of the Week. He is most well-known for his time spent with the Miami Marlins. Twenty-three was the year the infielder led the league in doubles with 12, and he did it while playing for the Ducks. He was batting with 34 runs batted in 295 when the Royals decided to buy out the remainder of his contract. The Royals could use all the assistance they can get their hands on right now. As of the day the club bought the agreement, the poorest team in Major League Baseball had a record of 18-50. As a result, the club is sending Hechavarra to Triple-A Omaha.

Hechavarria, who is 29 years old, is scheduled to check in at First Data Field on Monday when he will have a medical checkup before joining the team for its first meeting with the whole squad. He won’t be able to go out on the field with the team until Tuesday. The Mets general manager, Brodie Van Wagenen chose not to talk about Hechavarria at the Grapefruit League Media Day on Sunday since the player has not yet completed his medical. On Friday night, the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Pirates decided to deal publicly to acquire shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria for another player.

As part of the agreement with Pittsburgh to acquire either a player to be named later or monetary considerations, New York also got cash from Pittsburgh. It is the second time in the last month that Hechavarria has been dealt, as the Pirates previously obtained him in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays at the beginning of August. This transaction is the second time that Hechavarria has been moved in the past month. It seems anticipated that he will fill in at shortstop defensively for Gleyber Torres in the late innings until starter shortstop Didi Gregorius is well enough to return from a heel ailment.

During his time in the MLB, he has also played third base (18 games) and second base (eight games) with inexperience. If Hechavarria is going to make the playoffs roster for the Yankees, he will either need to have a great end to the season, or the club will need to suffer further injuries. Adeiny Hechavarria is now in his fourth season in the big leagues. During that time, he has established himself as one of the National League’s best defensive shortstops and made significant strides as a hitter. The Miami Marlins, who see him as one of the franchise’s cornerstone players, have shown interest in negotiating a lengthy contract extension with him worth tens of millions of dollars.

However, when Hechavarria considers what he went through to escape Cuba six years ago, he admits that the process was so nerve-wracking that he is unsure whether or not he would do it again. Hechavarria told his tale in an interview with USA TODAY Sports that was conducted in Spanish. In the interview, he revealed that he fled Cuba via Mexico in 2009 with fellow players Leslie Anderson and Rubi Silva and nine other defectors. Hechavarria also said that he feared for his life during the escape.

Hechavarria talked about how the players negotiated a deal with human traffickers to transport them out of Cuba on a boat in return for a portion of their signing fees. However, he could have gone into a better amount of detail regarding the nature of the arrangement. He refused to be more specific about what proportion he paid. Still, he did say that the plan needed to be developed carefully after departing from the coastal city of Santiago de Cuba, located in the island’s southeast region and Hechavarria’s homeland.
