Why Don’t We (abbreviated WDW) is a five-piece American boy band formed on September 27, 2016. Corbyn Besson, Daniel Seavey, Jack Avery, Jonah Marais, and Zach Herron were all solo artists before creating the band, and they met through social media gatherings and gigs. “Why don’t we” came to mind when they were all in Los Angeles.

In 2017, they were named Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing.” They were nominated for MTV’s Push Artist of the Year award in 2018. They’ve been featured in Billboard, Rolling Stone, Forbes, TIME, Teen Vogue, Seventeen, and other publications, headlined a sold-out tour, performed at Madison Square Garden, and shared the stage with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, The Chainsmokers, and others.
Career
Jack, Jonah, Corbyn, and Zach were asked by Jon Lucero, the tour manager who organised Brave Fest, to fly out to Los Angeles and perform for well-known group manager David Loeffler and his business partner Randy Phillips. But something was lacking, so Jack sent a message to Daniel Seavey, asking him to come down as well. The band was complete after Daniel came and performed with the four. The group was created on September 27, 2016, and they announced it on their YouTube account the next day.
The group released their debut single “Taking You” on October 7, 2016, which was followed by their debut EP, Only the Beginning, on November 25th of the same year. They started their Taking You Tour in 2017. That same year, they released their four EPs, Something Different (April 21), Why Don’t We Just (June 2), Invitation (September 26), and A Why Don’t We Christmas (November 23), as well as wrapping up their Something Different Tour across the US.
On August 29, 2017, a new single, “These Girls,” was released. In support of their fourth EP, they embarked on their third headline tour, the Invitation Tour, in 2018. 8 Letters, their debut studio album, was released on August 31, 2018. The album’s main tour began in March 2019.
In 2019, they released a song for each month: “Big Plans,” “Cold in LA,” “I Don’t Belong In This Club,” “Don’t Change,” “Unbelievable,” “Come To Brazil,” “I Still Do,” and “What I Still Do.” During the first eight months of 2020, the band went on break for eight months. On September 29, 2020, they launched a new single called “Fallin”.
It was the lead single from the band’s sophomore album, “The Good Times and the Bad Ones.” The band then released “Lotus Inn,” the album’s second single, on December 4 of the same year. During De Slow Down had a music sample from the Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979” and Fallin'(Adrenaline) featured a drum sample from Kanye West. The Good Times and the Bad Ones, the band’s sophomore album, was released on January 15, 2021.
Fallin’, Slow Down, and Lotus Inn were among the album’s ten tracks. Within a week, the record was among Billboard’s top ten albums. They had climbed to third place by January 24. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard chart on January 27, setting a new milestone for the band. Daniel described their musical approach as a blend of Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, and The Chainsmokers in an interview. Jon Bellion and Frank Ocean are among their influences. Ed Sheeran, who assisted in the writing of their track “Trust Fund Baby,” is their collective influence. Jaden Smith was also mentioned as a source of inspiration.
They travelled to Hawaii for the last five days of their holiday before the tour in May. Jonah and Daniel recorded a portion of Lotus Inn in a hotel room, using a lamp as a microphone. They previously stated that if they could work with any artist, it would be Ed Sheeran. Zach’s favourite song to perform on the Taking You Tour is “Nobody Gotta Know,” while Jack and Corbyn’s favourite song is “Taking You,” and Daniel and Jonah’s favourite song is “Free.”
