Victor Michael Cruz, born in the United States on November 11, 1986, is a retired football player who played wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). Cruz’s birthday is November 11. After playing collegiate football at the University of Massachusetts, he became an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2010. In 2012, he was selected for the Pro Bowl after winning Super Bowl XLVI with the New York Giants and defeating the New England Patriots. Cruz received his high school education in Paterson at Paterson Catholic High School. He attended Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine, for his post-graduate studies and graduated there.

Cruz amassed 47 receptions, 869 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns during his only season at Bridgton Academy. Victor attributes his accomplishment to his time spent under the tutelage of Paterson Catholic head coach Andrew Slome, for whom he played both wide receiver and defensive back. As a senior in 2003, the team went unbeaten, 11–0, and won the New Jersey Parochial Group I title, and he was recognized with All-State accolades for his performance on the squad. During that season, Cruz had 42 catches and scored 19 touchdowns, with 15 of those scores coming from receptions. Cruz initially failed to adequately integrate his undergraduate academics with his profession as a football player. As a result, he was expelled from the University of Massachusetts twice due to academic issues.

Although he didn’t become eligible to play for the University of Massachusetts (UMass) until 2007, he had a successful college football career. He graduated from UMass with a bachelor’s degree in Afro-American Studies. He played for the University of Massachusetts. Although he started a game in his junior year, Cruz concluded his career at UMass with 131 receptions, which placplacingh on the all-time UMass receptions record. He was responsible for 11 touchdowns throughout his career and finished with 1,999 yards receiving. In both 2008 and 2009, Cruz was honored as a member of the first team of All-Colonial Athletic Association wide receivers. Cruz caught six catches for 145 yards and three touchdowns during the Giants’ preseason game on August 16, 2010, against the New York Jets.

This contributed to the Giants’ 31–16 victory against the Jets. He concluded the preseason as the leader in the NFL with 297 receiving yards, was tied for the lead in the preseason with four touchdown receptions, and was named to the Giants’ 53-man roster for the regular season. Throughout the preseason, his performance was singled out for praise and attention from many observers. At the beginning of the season, he participated in three games before suffering a hamstring injury that forced the team to put him on injured reserve for the balance of the year. Cruz started the season as the Giants’ fourth wide receiver after the club lost Steve Smith to free agency. However, an injury to Domenik Hixon led to Cruz playing a more significant role in the Giants’ victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Cruz had a significant influence despite the Eagles being a strongly favored team. The play that garnered the most attention was when Cruz made a catch in the middle of two defenders and then raced to the end zone for a score. Cruz concluded the contest with three receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns, the first and second of his career, respectively. In Week 4, the Giants played the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth quarter with less than three minutes remaining. The Cardinals led the game 27–24.

Cruz made a catch, fell to the ground at the Cardinals’ 29-yard line without being touched, and then threw the ball away as he got up. A Cardinal player scooped up the ball as if it were still alive, but in reality, they thought Cruz had fumbled since no one touched him while he had the ball. The play was called dead, but a subsequent review of the tape after the game revealed that Cruz seemed to have fumbled the ball. Hakeem Nicks received the game-winning touchdown pass Eli Manning delivered the next play.

Cruz made a one-handed touchdown catch of 68 yards off a tipped throw during the Week 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks, which the Seahawks won 36–25. Later in the game, Cruz was also responsible for a fumble that Seattle recovered to tie the score at 22. Cruz stumbled on his route with the ball in the air as the Giants were within the 20-yard line. To grab the ball, Cruz tipped it into the arms of Brandon Browner, who returned it 94 yards for the game-winning touchdown. At that point, the Giants were down 29–25.

During the 16th week of the season, he matched the NFL record with a spectacular touchdown grab of 99 yards against the New York Jets. On a play that involved a grab for 99 yards, his 89 yards after the catch were the most ever recorded by a receiver. This catch has been heralded repeatedly as the pivotal moment that changed the course of the Giants’ 2011 season. During the same game, Cruz overtook Amani Toomer to become the Giants’ all-time leader in receiving yards in a single season. Toomer previously held this record. Cruz had six receptions for 178 yards in the Giants’ game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17, a must-win contest for the NFC’s final playoff spot.

Cruz scored the game’s first touchdown with a 74-yard touchdown catch, and he also had a fourth-quarter catch of 44 yards on third and seven that put the Giants in position to make a field goal that put the Giants up by two scores.A touchdown throw from Eli Manning to Hakeem Nicks that covered 4 yards helped the Giants defeat the Cowboys by a score of 31–14 and established a new record for the most fourth-quarter touchdown passes completed by Manning in a single season. Cruz received much acclaim for his excellent route running and destroying the Cowboy’s defense. At the end of the season, Cruz ended with 82 catches for 1,536 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, which set a single-season record for the team.

The Associated Press placed Cruz on the second team of All-Pro players this year. The Professional Football Writers of America voted him the Most Improved Player for the season. In the National Football Conference Championship game between the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers, Cruz recorded ten receptions for 142 yards, all of which came in the first half. The Giants won 20–17 overtime to proceed to Super Bowl XLVI. The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots to move to the Super Bowl and win their second consecutive Super Bowl victory. During the game, Cruz had four catches, which he turned into 25 yards and a score.

Cruz is well-known for his salsa dancing celebrations, which he does almost immediately after scoring a touchdown. He has revealed that it was done in memory of his late grandmother, who was the one who first taught him how to dance salsa and was a massive fan of touchdown dances. Due to Cruz’s touchdown dance, he was sent an invitation to go on Dancing with the Stars, but he declined the opportunity. On the list of the Top 100 Players in the NFL in 2012, his fellow athletes voted him 39th overall.

After much time spent in rehabilitation, Cruz provided an update informing the media that he was not yet completely healed. During the summer of 2015, Cruz returned to training camp, but sadly, he worsened his calf injury. His return was further delayed due to the exacerbation of his calf injury. From Week 5, Cruz’s comeback was put back to play in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. However, it was subsequently reported that Cruz would need surgery on his left calf and miss the whole of the 2015 season due to the injury.

On November 17, 2015, he was sent to the injured reserve list, which ended his season. Cruz returned to NFL action on September 11, 2016, for the Giants’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. His rehabilitation lasted for two years. That afternoon, he scored a touchdown that ended up winning the game for his team, and he celebrated by doing a salsa dance for the first time in two years. After such a strong showing against the New Orleans Saints, Victor Cruz would make the grab that ultimately decides the game in the dying minutes. The game’s final result was 16–13 in favor of the Giants’ victory.

Cruz was fined $12,154 on September 17 for excessive celebration due to dancing in the endzone with teammate wideout Odell Beckham Jr., who was also punished for the same reason as Cruz. Beckham Jr. was also fined for the same reason. At the end of the 2016 campaign, Cruz ended with 39 catches, 586 receiving yards, and one receiving touchdown. Cruz agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears on May 25, 2017, for a contract that would last for one year. On September 2, 2017, the Bears let Cruz go from their roster.

In 2017, the New York Giants wide receiver position was plagued by several injuries, leading to rumors that the Giants and Cruz would reunite in the following season.[68][69] However, the trade did not go through in the end, and Cruz continued to be a free agent during the 2017 season. Cruz announced his retirement on August 21, 2018, and he started working as an analyst for ESPN the same day. It was reported that he intended to sign a one-day deal with the New York Giants to retire from the club formally, but this has yet to materialize.

Cruz served as the host of the first season of The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros on MTV. Elaina Watley and Cruz Cruz are the parents of their daughter, Kennedy. From November 2017 till January 2021, he dated the actress Karrueche Tran. Their romance lasted about three years. During the summer of 2010, Cruz and Nate Collins, a former teammate, established the “Young Whales” apparel brand. Cruz and Osi Umenyiora, a former teammate of Cruz’s, were two of the brand’s early models.

As seen by his comments to The Players’ Tribune, former Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz believes that the New York Giants will always have a deep-seated hatred against the other teams in the division. While Cruz and former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan were out playing golf, they were asked which NFL team’s fanbase they would prefer to support: the Cowboys or the Eagles. Both offered direct answers about how they would like not to be fans of any competing teams.

The previous Giants and the teams who competed with them in their division do not have any warm feelings for one another. This is how the NFC East works since historically speaking, it has been home to some of the most intense rivalries in the whole history of the NFL. The National Football Conference East is one of the most competitive divisions in football, and this trend will likely continue in 2023. The Giants will have difficulty overcoming the significant challenges presented by the Cowboys and Eagles, but everything is still possible.
