Russell Westbrook was born on November 12, 1988, in Long Beach, California, United States. He is 32 years old. Raynard, his youngest brother, is his only sibling. Westbrook and his childhood friend Khelcey Barrs III dreamed about going to UCLA and playing together as kids in Hawthorne. Barrs died of a swollen heart after a pickup game in May 2004.
He didn’t join his high school’s varsity squad before his junior year, and his first college recruitment letter didn’t arrive before the summer before his senior year.
Throughout his UCLA career, Westbrook wore the number 0 jersey. He started as a backup to Darren Collison as a freshman in 2006–07, mainly as a defender and energy player off the bench. Westbrook had a season average of 3.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists. Collison was hospitalized the next season, and Westbrook was named the starter. He averaged 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game this season. Career
The Seattle SuperSonics drafted Westbrook fourth overall in the 2008 NBA draught. On July 5, 2008, he signed with the club. Westbrook’s first career triple-double came on March 2, 2009, when he had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. He became the first rookie since Chris Paul to post a triple-double, and just the third rookie in Sonics/Thunder franchise history to do so.
Westbrook had a season average of 15.3 points, 5.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. In the 2008–09 NBA Rookie of the Year voting, he came in fourth behind champion Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls), O. J. Mayo, and Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets). He earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team.
Westbrook’s return to basketball was postponed due to a second operation on his right knee.
