Phil Anselmo Wiki/Bio

Anselmo started a fire in his parents’ house when he was 14 years old as a joke for his sister. As a result of the fire, which destroyed much of the furniture in the house, a significant portion of the structure had to be reconstructed. Anselmo was only a child when he first joined the Samhain cult. In the early and mid-’80s, Anselmo was a member of the band Razor White, which was active both before and during the band’s heyday.

Anselmo joined Pantera in 1987, and the band has been together ever since. Over the course of their long career, Pantera has released a number of albums, including Vulgar Display of Power (their first studio album), Official Live: 101 Proof (their first live album), Reinventing the Steel (their second studio album), The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys’ Vulgar Hits, and The Great Southern Trendkill (their first live album) ( first compilation album). Anselmo departed the band in 2004 due to a lack of communication between him and the other members of the group. It was in 1991 that the heavy metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana, came to be known as Black Sabbath. The nucleus of the band is made up of ex-Pantera, Crowbar, and Eyehategod members.

A total of five albums have been released by the band: three studio albums, two EPs, and a live CD. In the early 1990s, Anselmo, Joe Fazzio, Jimmy Bower, and Hank Williams came together to establish the band, which was eventually expanded to include Kevin Bond and Hank Williams. Films like 2002’s Use Once and Destroy and 2003’s A Lethal Dose of American Hatred were released in theatres and on video, respectively, while 2016’s Caught Up In The Gears of Application was released on the shelves. Crowbar’s self-titled debut album, released in 1983, was produced by Anselmo. In 1996, he recorded the album for the band Broken Glass, which was released in 1997. He also contributed backing vocals to Anal Cunt’s 40 More Reasons to Hate Us, which was released the same year.

Career

Two albums featuring duets with Anselmo were released in 1998: Vision of Disoeder’s Imprint (1998) and Anthrax’s Volume 8: The Threat is Real (1999). As part of Heart’s 50th-anniversary celebration, Anselmo appeared on VH1’s Decades Rock Live on March 6, 2006. Uncivilization (Biohazard) and Mahakali (Jarboe) are two of the albums on which he has performed vocals, and they are both available on iTunes. He made a cameo appearance in the song “Prophets of Loss,” which was released in 2015. In 2016, he was the lead vocalist on the song Ace of Spades, which he sang with other well-known performers.

A painful back injury he sustained in the mid-1990s, according to him, had caused him to be in such awful pain. He turned to alcohol and prescription medicines such as pain killers and muscle relaxants to help him cope with the discomfort, and he eventually became addicted to heroin as a result of his addiction to these substances.
Since 2005, Anselmo has abstained from the use of illegal narcotics. Because of his chanting “White power,” Anselmo found himself at the center of an inter-racial fight.

On January 22, 2016, during the “Dimebash” Dimebag Darrell tribute event, Anselmo saluted the audience with the Nazi salute and yelled “White Power” into the audience. A member of the audience captured the incident on camera, and the video was later uploaded on YouTube by a member of the audience who captured it. Anselmo later stated that the reference to “white wine” was a jest. In the YouTube video, he also expressed contrition for his actions. Anselmo has an estimated net worth of $6.2 million dollars. In addition to his work with Pantera, Phil Anselmo is the frontman for a number of other bands with a similar style, the most notable of which being the hardcore metal band Avenged Sevenfold.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana Anselmo developed an interest in heavy metal throughout his adolescence and went on to front a number of local bands during the 1980s. It was said that Pantera’s Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, and Rex Brown met at a Louisiana club that Anselmo frequented one night and that this was the beginning of the band’s formation. In 2005, Pantera reevaluated its approach to music and decided to abandon its Spinal Tap-like musical direction, which resulted in a significant shift in the band’s sound. When Terry Glaze was replaced as the band’s lead singer, Pantera reevaluated their approach to music and decided to abandon their Spinal Tap-like musical direction. The band Pantera welcomed Anselmo as their new lead singer almost immediately after they developed a friendly relationship.

Pantera’s first album, 1988’s Power Metal, was not up to the standard of the band’s future albums, but it was good enough to land the band a deal with Atlantic Records subsidiary EastWest Records. In fact, as evidenced by the band’s 1990 album Cowboys from Hell, the band’s image and music quickly transitioned from glam rock (a la Mötley Crüe) to straight-up thrash metal (Metallica). The albums Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven were the two that propelled Pantera to the top of the metal heap following the release of this album, and they were both critically acclaimed. However, despite the fact that the band’s success appeared to be bringing them happiness, Anselmo was covertly developing an addiction to substances during this time period.

During a brief hiatus from Pantera in 1995, Anselmo formed a side project called Down with Pepper Keenan (guitar), Crowbar’s Todd Strange (bass), and Eyehategod’s Jimmy Bower (drums). The group was called Down. (drums). In the same year that Anselmo returned to Pantera as a full-time member, the band released their self-titled debut album, which received generally excellent reviews. Following the release of Pantera’s The Great Southern Trendkill in 1996, Anselmo came dangerously close to death from a heroin overdose in July of the same year (and just as a support tour was getting underway). Having refused to cancel the tour and successfully kicking his drug habit on his own is a remarkable achievement. During the recording of Pantera’s debut live album, 1997’s Official Live: 101 Proof, Anselmo turned his attention away from the band’s musical endeavors to work on a non-musical project: the construction of an interactive haunted house in Jefferson, Louisiana dubbed the House of Shock.

With the release of Reinventing the Steel, Pantera’s fifth studio album, Anselmo began releasing albums with other side projects in 2000, marking the beginning of his multi-faceted career. Philip H. Anselmo is the author of Necrophagia, Viking Crown, Superjoint Ritual, Christ Inversion, Southern Isolation, and a solo project, among other things. Anselmo’s schedule is already jam-packed with upcoming projects such as Eibon, Enoch, and Body & Blood, and he’s anticipated to appear on the long-awaited debut album by Nine Inch Nails side project Tapeworm, which is set to be released in early 2018. He’s also contributed vocals to albums by other bands, including Vision of Disorder’s Imprint, Biohazard’s Uncivilization, and Tony Iommi’s, as well as Anthrax’s Volume 8: The Threat Is Real and A.C.’s 40 More Reasons to Hate Us, among others. He’s also appeared on the cover of Metal Hammer magazine.
