Songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Mikaela Davis surrounds her layered pop compositions with folk, rock, and chamber pop.
In the early 2010s it appeared with a number of accompanying harp solo coverings of indie singer-songwriters, notably one of “Twilight” by Elliott Smith that immediately won tens of thousands of views. She made her label debut with the John Congleton-produced Delivery in 2018 with more extensive arrangements for her own material.
A native of Rochester, New York, Davis took the harp at the age of eight and began writing her own songs at the Crane School of Music.
Career
She went to school with them and released her eponymous debut LP in 2012. In the interim, she posted a mixture of original songs and voice-and-harp coverings from musicians like Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens at sites to distribute the music. The EPs Live from NOLA and Fortune Teller followed each other in 2014, the year in which Davis graduated.
Two years later, Davis came back with the title track of another EP, Pure Divine Love, which was released early 2017. Also earlier that year, the psychedelic rock band Spaceface featured the song “Sun Kids.” Later in 2017, Davis joined with Rounder Records.
After a tour in pr0motion of Lake Street Dive, her debut in Rounder, Delivery, produced by John Congleton, arrived in July 2018. Her regular bands Alex Coté (drums/guitars) and Shane McCarthy (bass) joined her for the album and, on two tracks, Staves.
