Edward Gillum and Suzanne Olmsted gave birth to G-Eazy on May 24, 1989, in Oakland, California, United States. When he was in the first grade, his parents divorced, and he moved in with his grandparents in Berkeley, California
To raise G-Eazy and his brother, James, his mother, an artist, worked part-time as a teacher at two separate schools. Although the family later relocated to North Oakland, he continued to attend Berkeley High School.
Gillum’s mother left his father, an associate professor of art at CSU Fresno, when he was in the first grade. In Berkeley, California, Gillum moved in with his grandmother. They eventually relocated to North Oakland, though Gillum continued to attend Berkeley High School. Gillum graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans in 2011.
Career
While still a student at Loyola University in New Orleans, G-Eazy started working on singles with his partner Christoph Andersson, who was still a student there. He rose to prominence as a member of the East Bay’s new hip hop scene, collaborating with musicians such as Lil B, Crohn, and The Cataracs. He became a member of “The Bay Boyz,” a local hip hop collective that had posted several tracks on their Myspace website. G-Eazy was offered the chance to open for a number of well-known artists in 2010, including Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
G-mixtapes Eazy’s were only moderately successful at the time. He launched The Endless Summer in August 2011, featuring a revised version of the 1961 hit song “Runaround Sue,” which has received over four million views on YouTube. Tyler Yee directed the video for the song. Greg Banks, Erika Flowers, and Devon Baldwin make cameo appearances on the mixtape. Gillum and Shwayze embarked on a national tour in November 2011. The song “My Life Is a Party” was played on an in-game radio station in the game Saints Row: The Third.
G-Eazy revealed on Instagram and Twitter on June 14, 2017, that The Beautiful & Damned, his upcoming studio album, will be released in the fall of 2017. The official release date, as well as an accompanying short film, was released on November 8, 2017.
G-Eazy launched a new project named Everything’s Strange Here in March 2020. On June 26, 2020, the album was officially released. These Things Happen Too, G-new Eazy’s sixth studio album, is set to be released in 2021.
