Midland is a city full of interesting quirks. The way the outfield wall was set up was one of the first things that attracted my eye. The right-field corner stands out the most. This means that the right-field corner has been hollowed out for the Midland bullpen, resulting in a significantly reduced in-play area for the right field.

In addition, the wall in front of the bullpen is very short, so anything further down the line has a fair possibility of going through it. Joe Jackson made the most of it on Sunday, blasting a three-run homer to end the game.
Despite the fact that it’s not exactly the same arrangement on the left-field side, it’s still a unique formation. From the foul pole in left field, a diagonal cut leads to the main wall. It bends inward in a wavy shape from there before returning to its normal curvature for the rest of the way.

In addition to the wall, this park has a lot to offer visitors. At night, a set of water fountains on the concourse in the left-center field are illuminated. The RockHounds’ horn, which plays whenever they score, is also noteworthy. Obviously, Security Bank Ballpark isn’t the only place in Minor League Baseball where this is done (the Riders have their own version, but it’s a little bit different).

However, it enhances the atmosphere of the ballpark. The park provides a cozy atmosphere thanks to the well-kept seating bowl. The proximity of our broadcast booth to the field enhances the quality of our broadcasts.

Additionally, the personnel in Midland has been quite welcoming and helpful. Overall, my first visit to Security Bank Ballpark was a positive experience. Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, will be the subject of the next ballpark bio, which will be published in a few weeks.

The Atlanta Braves Beat the Freeze campaign served as a major inspiration for our Riders Run Series. For the RoughRiders, I envisioned an LED game similar to these campaigns, but with a distinctive twist that would make it stand out from the crowd. It occurred to me that we might use our three Daktronics outfield LEDs as the basis for this racing idea that I had been working on in my head. The race would have been much shorter if we only had one outfield board, so we’re grateful to have the LED system we have.

It took a lot of trial and error to figure out how fast each LED animation could be controlled. I owe a debt of gratitude to all of the interns and employees who raced the LED boards in search of the optimal speed for each board. In our first race, we picked a competitor who was in town for a track meet and blew away the T-Rex. All three outfield boards must be completed in thirty seconds, and most test runs were completed with five seconds to spare. I wanted complete control over the timing of each race-related animation in order to ensure that the fan always came out on top.

I used green screen stock footage and Adobe After Effects to make all of the graphics. We use four of the eight LED boards in the stadium for this race. In our Show Control system, I designed buttons that will activate the separate boards’ animations. In order to get the race started, a generic collection of images is displayed at the start of the race. It’s then that we switch to 16:9 footage during our PA read-through of the race to show our competitor on the field.

The name of the race and a 30-second countdown clock is displayed on the video’s wings on either side in our 16:9 style. When the race begins, I press the start button to activate the clock and begin the first animation. After that, based on the speed of the competitor, I activate each animation in order to keep the race as close as possible. The winning boards are activated once the contestant has won. A winning song is played when the event is over, setting the scene and evoking memories of the race.

The Terminator concept is fantastic! Most of our races will be based on the theme nights that we have planned for the year. For example, on our education days, fans can race SpongeBob in our “Riders Sponge Run,” and during Princess and Pirates Night, they can race Jack Sparrow, who may or may not be slightly intoxicated, in our “Riders Treasure Run.”

Sandlot Night “Riders Beat The Beast Run” and Forrest Gump Night “The One and Only Forrest Gump Run” are also on the schedule, as is the one and only Forrest Gump himself. When I produce these LED races, I have a lot of material to work with thanks to the baseball season’s most extensive promotional program.
