Chris Paul, whose full name is Christopher Emmanuel Paul and whose nickname is CP3, is an American professional basketball player born on May 6, 1985, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States. He rose to prominence as one of the most prominent National Basketball Association (NBA) players in the early 21st century. One of basketball’s great myths, that of the pure point guard, has been definitively debunked thanks to the career of Chris Paul. According to popular belief, the pure point is an unselfish and very smart player who strives for nothing more than to assist his teammates in scoring goals.

Paul was a playmaker with a level of skill and intuition that had never been seen in the NBA before. He made passes that eluded understanding while maneuvering around his teammates (and opponents) like a grandmaster chess player. At the same time, he scored as effortlessly as any other league player, whether by sinking the outside jump shot with outstanding precision or by knifing his way to the basket with ease. He was able to do both. Paul was a talented athlete who excelled at basketball and football as a child. However, he decided to focus on basketball in high school even though, as a freshman, he was only a little over 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and was deemed too little to play.

But Paul’s talent shone through, and with a bit of help from a few growth spurts, by the time he went off to play college ball at Wake Forest University, he was 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and considered one of the top prospects in the country. Paul’s growth spurts helped him reach his full height. Paul was at Wake for two years, during which time he demonstrated a fantastic skill set and a fiercely competitive spirit that sometimes got him in problems with the refs. In 2005, Paul participated in the National Basketball Association draught and was chosen fourth overall by the New Orleans Hornets.

He was virtually universally chosen for the Rookie of the Year award, but what’s more impressive is that he established himself as a leader even though he was still a rookie. Hurricane Katrina caused the Hornets to be forced out of their home arena during his first year as a professional player. As a result, the Hornets had to play their home games at other venues around the American South, notably in Oklahoma City. Consequently, Paul acted somewhat of a representative for New Orleans, even if the city’s first campaign was less than ideal.

Paul came into his own during the third season of his career, which he did by making his debut in the NBA’s All-Star Game, putting himself in serious contention for the Most Valuable Player award, and guiding the Hornets to the second-best record in the Western Conference. After that, Paul had two more successful seasons, although in 2009–10, he missed a substantial amount of time due to injury. On the other hand, the Hornets grew worse. Even though they qualified for the playoffs in 2010–2011, Paul was often the only player that kept them in those games. The labor stoppage that occurred in 2011 left the Hornets needing a rebuild, and as a result, Chris Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

However, the league decided not to go through with the transaction, which was a contentious decision given that the NBA owned the Hornets at the time due to the previous owner’s poor financial management. Soon after that, Paul was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers, and as soon as he joined the club in the offseason before the 2011–12 season, he quickly converted it into one of the most exciting and dangerous teams in the league. In 2013, he re-signed for an extended period with the Clippers, indicating a desire to help the club become a dominant force in the Western Conference.

Paul’s extraordinary brilliance throughout the regular season continued, as he led the league in assists per game in both the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. It was the sixth time that Paul’s team had failed to go beyond the second round of the playoffs in six times that they had participated in the playoffs. The Clippers were eliminated in the second round of the 2013–14 playoffs. It looked as if he had finally put his postseason jitters to rest during the 2014–2015 playoffs when he battled through a hamstring injury to make the shot that won the series for the Clippers against the reigning champion San Antonio Spurs in the seventh game of the Clippers’ opening series.

The Los Angeles Lakers could not capitalize on a three-games-to-one series lead in the next round, which resulted in their elimination at the hands of the Houston Rockets. Chris Paul and fellow All-Star Blake Griffin were sidelined for the remainder of the 2015–16 NBA season after suffering season-ending injuries during the Clippers’ fourth playoff game. Paul suffered a broken hand, while Griffin suffered a quadriceps tear. The Clippers were eliminated from the postseason in their first series. Even though he was out for 14 games due to a ruptured ligament in his left thumb during the 2016–17 season, he still managed to lead the Clippers to 51 victories and a spot in the playoffs.

However, during the first round of the playoffs, Griffin had another injury that ended his season, and the Clippers were defeated in a series that went the full seven games. After it became public knowledge that Paul would not be signing a contract extension with the Clippers in 2018, the Clippers decided to trade Paul to the Rockets in the offseason. With the superstar shooting guard James Harden, he guided the Houston Rockets to the best record in the National Basketball Association during the 2017–18 season (65–17). Paul finally advanced past the second round of the playoffs that season, but an injury he sustained in the closing minutes of game five of the conference finals (a victory that put Houston up 3–2 in the series) kept him out of the remaining two contests of the series, both of which were won by the Golden State Warriors. Ultimately, Paul’s season ended in disappointment.

He came back for the 2018–19 season, but advanced age and an accumulation of injuries continued to take a toll on his output, as seen by the fact that he scored a career-low 15.6 points per game. The Rockets were ousted from the playoffs by the Warriors for the second straight year. As a result of Paul and Harden’s failure to win a playoff series against the Warriors while playing together, Houston decided to reassess their strategy and, over the offseason, they dealt Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Even though Paul unexpectedly guided a youthful Thunder side to the playoffs during the 2019–20 season, the Thunder elected to part ways with the costly veteran during the offseason and traded Paul to the Phoenix Suns.

An inexperienced Suns group was energized and driven by the arrival of Paul during the 2020–21 NBA season, which resulted in the unexpected Suns team finishing with the second-best record in the NBA. The next postseason, he led Phoenix to its first-ever berth in the NBA finals by directing the Suns to victory over the competition in the Western Conference playoffs. This was a measure of postseason atonement for him. There, Phoenix threw away two games to none series lead to the Milwaukee Bucks, who went on to win four consecutive games to knock Paul and the Suns out of the playoffs. Due to this outcome, Paul established a new record in the annals of the NBA by becoming the only player to ever lose all four games in a playoff series in which his team had taken the first two games. In October of 2021, he became the first player in the history of the NBA to finish their career with 20,000 points and 10,000 assists combined.

Thursday was when Kanye West appeared on Alex Jones’ program “Infowars,” where he spewed hatred, claimed that he was a fan of Hitler, cast doubt on the Holocaust, and praised Nazis. Jones, a controversial character in his own right, made many efforts to pull Kanye in, but the rapper continued to double down on his stance. Oh, they did it again on Monday night by crapping the bed. Devin Booker began the game 0 for six at the plate. At one point in the game, Deandre Ayton had a field goal percentage of 6 for 8, while the other four starters had a combined field goal percentage of 6 for 27. And protectively. You have to wonder WHY the Suns are so adamant about protecting Luka Doncic one-on-one while simultaneously letting the backcourt shooters unguarded.

The Suns had a record of 11-4 without Paul in the previous season, but their record against teams with a record of at least.500 in those 15 games was just 3-3. This year, in 14 games played without Paul, they have a record of 9-5, which is also their record versus other teams. 500 or better is, once again, the same as 3-3. The fact that all three of their losses occurred away from home and two of them were decided by a single point does not change the fact that they were defeats. What does this suggest about the likelihood of the Suns winning their next games against the Celtics on Wednesday and the Pelicans over the weekend? I suppose there is nothing here that you did not already know. Without one of their All-Stars in the starting lineup, the Phoenix Suns’ chances of defeating a strong opponent are in question.

In most cases, the scheduling does not work out as planned. The rigors of games and traveling make it tough for the Suns to attend a midseason golf tournament. This is true even if the Suns are in town for part of the event. However, everything worked out well this year. On Friday night, the squad will compete in Indiana. After that, they will have three days free before hosting the Kings in their arena. Paul, for his part, tried out golf for the first time at TPC Scottsdale in 2009 when he was in town for the NBA All-Star Game. Before that trip, his visits to Phoenix had always been quite sporadic and unpredictable. But since he was only in town for a few days and had just a few basketball obligations, he could go out on the course and play 18 holes.

The future inductee into the Hall of Fame has now missed ten consecutive games, making today his 11th game in a row without participating. In 10 games he has played, he has amassed 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 9.4 assists, and 1.7 steal on average per game. The Suns have been doing quite well as of late, even though he is perhaps their most valuable player. They are currently in the midst of a winning run of five games and have a record of 7-3 in their past ten games.

During his junior year of high school, Chris attended Michael Jordan’s basketball camp. While there, he had the chance to meet and talk with the Bulls great. But what he didn’t realize was that Jordan would pick him out of the crowd as the one he wanted. Chris was questioned about his thoughts on being picked by Michael Jordan on a podcast called NBA Hooper Vision. And the reaction he gave was exactly what we had all been anticipating. “When MJ saw it, he decided to give you the remaining shifts for the week!” @CP3 discusses his time spent at the Michael Jordan Skills Academy as a high school prospect, where Jordan recruited him.
