Chi Chi DeVayne Wiki/Bio
Chi Chi DeVayne was born on September 24, 1985, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Alberteen Wyandon and Zan Davenport III. Of his youth, he explained: “I was always a bit performer. My uncle used to point talent shows with our cousins, and my mother saw something in me. She had my gymnastics, and I was in a dance company in my twenties.” In his childhood, he carried a gun, got into trouble, and joined gangs.
Before appearing on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Davenport worked two nine-to-five jobs to encourage himself. DeVayne took the first name Chi Chi from the Movie To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar and the surname DeVayne in the DeVayne drag family of Shreveport. Her drag moms are Kourtni DeVayne and Lady Phat Kat. DeVayne enjoyed using different colors of purple makeup.
Career
DeVayne competed in the eighth season of Drag Race, which started airing on March 7, 2016. HuffPost’s James Michael Nichols said that “Chi Chi was the dark-horse this year, walking through the doors at the very first installment in a dress literally made from garbage bags.” DeVayne made it to the top four but was removed before Kim Chi and Naomi Smalls; Bob the Drag Queen took the crown. DeVayne said of this encounter: “It changed everything in my life. Everything has turned in another direction. Before, I was like, ‘What is a fantastic job that I could get here in town, working in a mill’ It is crazy.”
She seemed on RuPaul’s podcast RuPaul: What is the Tee with Michelle Visage in 2016. The next year, she toured with A Drag Queen Christmas. In March 2018, DeVayne was part of Max Emerson’s Drag Babies Collection, which was hosted by Bob the Drag Queen. She served as a drag mentor alongside Peppermint and Shuga Cain. DeVayne was asked to return to Drag Race for the third year of All-Stars, which premiered on January 25, 2018. She was removed in the fourth episode, initially placing seventh. In 2018, Davenport was diagnosed with scleroderma. On July 17, 2020, he had been rushed to the hospital for kidney failure linked to scleroderma. Two days later, he published an update on social networking stating, “I let it go too long without visiting the doctor and these are the consequences,” as well as demonstrating appreciation for the outpouring of support from colleagues and fans. He stated he was experiencing dialysis therapy. Four months later, he was readmitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia. He died on August 20, 2020, at age 34.
