Young Thug Wiki/Bio
Young Thug is the stage name of rapper Jeffery Lamar Williams. Since 2011, he’s been a mainstay on the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States of America. He’s today’s mainstream rapper thanks to his work with artists like Gucci Mane, Birdman, Waka Flocka Flame, and Richie Homie. Following the success of his 2013 mixtape, which garnered largely excellent reviews, his music became increasingly popular in nightclubs and other social settings. He worked hard his entire life, first in Atlanta, then in the United States, to achieve success. In his early career as a style hero, he has set numerous trends and exudes a carefree and breezy manner. Aspiring rappers are copying his look, which features blingy accouterments and lengthy hair. Adolescence brought him to an understanding of the female style that led him to adopt new looks that fused male and female clothing, which he continues to show off on various occasions and pulls off. Even though he is engaged to Jerrika Karle, his announcement that he is gay sparked a lot of controversies. He’s famous thanks to his excellent rhythm, and he hasn’t hidden his outlandish lifestyle from the public. It helps that he’s direct, forthright, and unflappable, so he’s immune to criticism.
In Atlanta, Jeffery Lamar Williams, aka Young Thug was born on August 16th, 1991. His mother had a total of eleven children, with him being the eighth and last to be born. In the now-demolished Jonesboro South complexes, they raised a family together.
His siblings are all biologically related to separate fathers. He shares a father with his younger sister, who is the youngest in the family. When there were so many children in the house, it was difficult for their mother to support them all.
He grew up in a violent neighborhood. One of his brothers was convicted of murder and is currently serving time for the murder of his elder brother, who was fatally shot in front of him.
Until the sixth grade, he was in primary school. After breaking his teacher’s arm, he was expelled from school and sentenced to four years in juvenile jail.
While still in his teens, he developed bad habits and started gambling with his friends, just like his brothers. He enjoyed the rush that came from taking chances. In little time, he was enmeshed in drug abuse and violence.
He had a child at the age of seventeen and was already a father. Around this time, he began to appreciate his musical and rhyming abilities. He made up his mind right then and there that he would no longer be content to live in poverty. Young Thug’s debut mixtape, titled ‘I Came from Nothing,’ wowed Gucci Mane. As soon as he discovered his work was distinct and recognizable, he signed him to his label.
Gucci signed him in 2013 and he released ‘1017 Thug,’ another mixtape. Seen on Pitchfork’s “Albums of the Year” list and panned favorably by “Complex,” his songs became popular.
Picacho, one of his tracks, was named the greatest tune on his mixtape and made it onto the lists of the year’s finest songs by Rolling Stone and Spin. The mixtape was also listed as one of the five finest of 2013 by ‘The Guardian.’ ‘Stoner’ and ‘Danny Glover’ were his first two singles, both of which were released later that year. Many well-known rappers and DJs remixed both songs, making them huge hits. But he didn’t like the way his music had been remixed. After solidifying his position, he began working with notable names in the music industry, like Alex Tumay, Danny Brown, Trick Daddy, and, eventually, Travis Scott.
Young had a fruitful year in 2014, and he’ll remember it fondly. A record deal worth $1.5 million with Cash Money Records had been rumored, however, Birdman clarified that he had just inked a management agreement with the label instead. He collaborated with Kayne West, Rich Homie, and Chief Keef on multiple songs as part of the ‘1017 Brick Squad,’ which appeared on the cover of ‘The Fader.’ In March 2014, he revealed that his debut album, titled ‘Carter 6,’ would be released soon and would pay homage to Lil Wayne’s hit album ‘Tha Carter,’ which inspired him.
Because of his freestyle abilities, he was able to swiftly get fresh songs recorded. Unfortunately, his album’s songs were leaked due to a data error. He had to instantly create two mixtapes, Slime Season and Slime Season 2, to make up for the loss once it went viral. To make matters worse, Lil Wayne objected to Young’s declaration that he wanted to dedicate his debut album to him, and the dispute ended up in court. Young was therefore forced to compromise. A mixtape was instead of an album and was called “Barter 6” by Young; the name was changed to “iTunes” under the Atlantic record label afterward.
Immediately following the album’s release, Young met with Kayne, who was extremely taken by Young’s distinct approach and even compared him to Bob Marley. They stated in 2015 that they would collaborate on an album, but no tour dates have been revealed as of yet. Young’s debut ‘extended play,’ or EP, ‘I’m Up,’ was released in 2016 and immediately went to the top of the US charts. After releasing ‘Slime Season 3,’ his next mixtape, he put a halt to the tape leaks.
His mixtape “iTunes” was the subject of a US tour that he planned in the middle of the year alongside “Rich the Kid,” “TM88,” and “Dae Dae.” During the tour, he became a fashion star and was included in Calvin Klein’s fall 2016 collection. After receiving numerous record label offers, he’s been hard at work producing ‘Jeffrey,’ a mixtape, and he intends to start his own label named ‘YSL Records,’ soon.
His mixtapes have all been successful, but one has done particularly well. “Barter 6” came in at number 22 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. Some critics say Young’s dispute with Lil Wayne is what helped the album succeed, while others say his unorthodox rapping style is what made it so.
Although it was never intended to be a single, “Picacho” reached the top 100 of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork, and was included in the top 50 of Spin. An unofficial remix of his song “Stoner” by Wale made the song popular once more in 2014. Because of the remix’s success, Young’s original song was given new life on the charts. According to Complex, he was one of the “25 New Rappers to Watch Out For” in 2013.
For his song “Who Blew Up,” Young Thug was nominated for three BET Hip-Hop Awards: “Best Hip-Hop Style”; and “Best Club Banger- for Stoner”. As Nicki Minaj and Rae Sremmurd were nominated for their songs “Throw Sum Mo” at the BET Awards, he was nominated for the same award the following year.
He’s twenty-five years old and already has six children from four different relationships. He’s currently engaged to Jerrika Karlae, whom he met through a mutual acquaintance. In her previous life, she managed a swimwear line. Despite his newfound fame, Thug hasn’t been able to stay out of trouble. When he threatened to kill an Atlanta mall security guard in 2015, he was jailed on ‘terrorist threats’ charges.
After Jimmy Winfrey opened fire on one of Lil Wayne’s gigs, the animosity between him and Young Thug, Birdman, and the other rappers reached new heights when they were all charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Young Thug, most known for his outlandish persona and free-spirited demeanor, has never written down the words to any of his songs. Instead, he creates his songs by hand-drawing geometric forms and patterns.
Young Thug, one of the most distinctive modern rap singers, has been challenging gender and sexuality preconceptions while bucking hip-hop traditions since his chart breakthrough with “Stoner” (2014). In the wake of a string of hit mixtapes, including JEFFERY (2016) and Beautiful Thugger Girls (2017), and his chart-topping debut album, So Much Fun, the quirky rapper’s first of many gold and platinum-certified recordings arrived (2019). Childish Gambino’s Grammy-winning “This Is America,” as well as Post Malone’s “Goodbyes,” have all featured Thug. He has also topped the charts with the co-headlining mixtapes Super Slimy (with Future) and Slime & B (including Chris Brown), as well as the crew’s compilation Slime Language 2.
In 2012, Young Thug (born Jeffery Lamar Williams) joined Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad after releasing three mixtapes under his own name. At the beginning of 2013, he released his mixtape 1017 Thug, which included the oddball street song “Picacho.” After releasing his single “Stoner” in the second half of the year, it didn’t take off until Wale’s official remix surfaced in 2014, opening the floodgates for an unofficial remix wave starring Jim Jones, Iamsu, and Trick Trick. In April of that year, the original single reached number one on the charts and was awarded gold status by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles-founded imprint 300 Entertainment signed Thug to a recording contract and encouraged him to keep putting out mixtapes. Barter 6, his debut album with the label, peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200. The first of numerous mixtapes he released in 2016 was I’m Up, which debuted in the same place as Barter. Slime Season 3 followed a few months later, peaking at number ten on the charts. In 2015, his song “Best Friend” was certified platinum before he released his following single. He released his third tape, originally named No, My Name Is Jeffery, and then modified to just JEFFERY, near the conclusion of the summer. JEFFERY contained reggae/dub flourishes and performances from Migos’ Offset and Quavo, Gucci Mane, Travi$ Scott, and Wyclef Jean, as well as controversial cover art and a concept (each track was named after one of Thug’s idols).
Beautiful Thugger Girls debuted in June of 2017 with an unexpected departure into the new sound territory. Despite its country and pop leanings, Thug’s act was unmistakably him. After working with producer Carnage on the Young Martha EP in September, he collaborated with Future on the mixtape Super Slimy in October. He also appeared on Camila Cabello’s number-one pop smash “Havana,” which peaked at number one on the charts. The A-Trak-assisted single “Ride on Me” was released in early 2018 in anticipation of the Hear No Evil EP’s April release. After appearing on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” which won the Song of the Year Grammy at the 61st Grammy Awards, he released the Slime Language Young Stoner Life Records compilation, which featured Lil Duke, Gunna, and Lil Uzi Vert. Thug’s third EP, On the Rvn, was released the following month. 6LACK and Jaden Smith joined Thug on “High,” which samples “Rocket Man” and debuted in the Billboard 200’s Top 20 as well as the R&B/hip-hop chart’s Top 20.
