Ernest Joseph Anastasio III was born on September 30th, 1964, in the city of Fort Worth, Texas, in the United States. It is generally agreed upon that Anastasio is one of the most talented guitarists from the American rock scene in the latter half of the twenty-first century. His work with the intelligent American jam band Phish, for whom he served as both the guitarist and the primary lyricist, is primarily responsible for his widespread notoriety. Trey Anastasio is a guitarist and songwriter most well-known for his role as a co-founder of the groundbreaking jam-rock band Phish. He has continued to explore the boundaries of improvisation to broaden his musical vocabulary and write music at an impressively prolific rate.

In addition to his work with Phish, Trey Anastasio has released many albums under his name and had success as a member of the band Oysterhead. Anastasio was born in Fort Worth, Texas, although he spent most of his childhood in Princeton, New Jersey, after moving there with his family in 1966. Anastasio’s initial attempts at songwriting were made in tandem with his mother, who created songs for children’s records and worked as an editor for Sesame Street Magazine. Anastasio’s tunes were released on children’s albums. His father had an executive position with the company administering the SAT and other standardized examinations.

At Princeton Day School, where Anastasio was a student, he first made the acquaintance of Tom Marshall, who would become his songwriting collaborator. Another student who later became famous was John Popper of Blues Traveler. Anastasio went to Taft High School, where he was a member of the band Space Antelope, which he founded while still a student. Even though he started playing drums, he eventually gravitated toward the guitar as his primary instrument. Throughout his time at school, he never stopped writing music.

He was a student at the University of Vermont when he first came into contact with Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman, and Jeff Holdsworth, all of whom would later become members of Phish. In 1983, Anastasio was one of the co-founders of the band. He then went to Goddard College, where he studied composition under Ernie Stires, who would become a significant figure in Anastasio’s professional life as a mentor. In 1988, the band had its first album, titled Junta, released after being given a record deal by Elektra. The band’s sound is rooted in rock, but its members improvise in the same way jazz players could, which occasionally places them in the category of “jam bands” in the same vein as the Grateful Dead.

And much like that other band, Phish has a legion of devoted fans who travel with them around the nation, capture and swap recordings of their live performances, and learn every little detail about the band and its members. Phish has released at least one recording yearly since its debut in 1993 with Rift. The band also committed themselves to an intense touring schedule. Phish remained Anastasio’s primary musical outlet for the 1980s and the 1990s, as his original work progressed from lengthy prog-influenced compositions, such as “You Enjoy Myself” of the mid-1980s, to the more focused (though still complex) songs of Rift. This is according to Rolling Stone.

Anastasio assembled a big free jazz band in 1996 to complete his Surrender to the Air project. The ensemble included artists such as Marshall Allen (of Sun Ra), John Medeski (of Medeski Martin & Wood), Marc Ribot, and Bob Gulotti. From 1996 to 1998, he moved away from utilizing composition as a foundation for composing music and instead shifted progressively toward improvisation. This transition is shown in albums by Phish, such as The Story of the Ghost and The Siket Disc. These out-of-the-ordinary Anastasio-fronted Phish-related ventures were released under the Phish Dry Goods label, which is more evidence of his prodigious productivity. According to his official website, One Man’s Trash had sixteen songs written, produced, recorded, and played solely by Anastasio.

These tracks were purportedly “composed, produced, recorded, and performed by Trey, frequently in the early hours at the Fungus Factory or The Barn in Vermont.” Anastasio wrote and recorded all 25 songs on Trampled by Lambs and Pecked by the Dove on his own or with Tom Marshall over nine days in 1997. The album was released under the name Trampled by Lambs and Pecked by the Dove. Phish chose to record ten songs, which can be found on their subsequent albums, The Story of the Ghost and Farmhouse.

Phish played a gig in Madison Square Garden in New York City on New Year’s Eve 2002 to announce that they were ending their break. Immediately after that, the band played three shows at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. During his time off, Anastasio was involved in several projects, many of which were still being completed. During his tour in support of Trey Anastasio, several of his live performances were captured on record and later used to compile his two-disc solo album Plasma, which was released in 2003. Elektra described the album as “a series of musical excursions built upon rock-solid and even ferocious grooves.

One of the highlights of the CD is a rendition of “Night Speaks to a Woman” that runs for 23 minutes. In 2004, it was revealed that Anastasio would be one of the musicians supporting Dave Matthews’ solo project, which was titled Dave Matthews & Friends. According to Matthews, quoted in an article published in the Boston Globe, “I’ve wanted to play with Trey for a long time.” During this period, Trey Anastasio rejoined Phish to finish recording two new studio albums before the band officially broke up for good in 2004. Anastasio went on to establish his band, the 70 Volt Parade Band (later renamed the Trey Anastasio Band), and record a new studio album titled Shine in 2005.

Anastasio tackled some plain pop/rock on this terrific record, and the result was plenty of dazzling melodies with nary a jam to be found anywhere. After that, in 2006, Bar 17 became the first album to be released under Anastasio’s record company, Rubber Jungle Records. Trey Anastasio, guitarist for the band Phish, released a message on Instagram today in which he reflected on the 40 years of Phish-themed New Year’s Eve event held at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The party took place on December 31, 1978. The statement included specifics of the performance planning, extending gratitude to the organizations that participated in the spectacle and to all individuals who contributed their skills and ideas to create memories throughout the last four decades.

After that, Anastasio extended his gratitude to the broader organizations that had contributed to the staging of the spectacular by writing, “Thank you to the incredible choir and marching band.” Many thanks to the gifted singers, dancers, and aerialists who made up the cast! Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes, including the stage management, props, and wardrobe crews. I’d want to extend my gratitude to the Phish staff for making everything come together (every night).” The guitarist then grew his appreciation of the “star of the concert,” referring to him as “Frenchie” and writing, “Finally, we want to thank the star of the evening Frenchie (aka The Naked Guy) from Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

We’ve heard that you’re going through a difficult time with your health, Frenchie, and we want to convey our love and best wishes to you through this difficult time. Anastasio concluded his speech with the following words: “This New Year’s Eve was a celebration of the many wonderful individuals who have contributed their creativity and ability to help us generate many memorable memories over the previous four decades.” All of you have our affection and gratitude. Trey concluded that this past New Year’s Eve was a celebration of the many great individuals who have helped us generate many memorable memories over the previous four decades by sharing their creativity and ability. “We are grateful to every one of you.

Anastasio also collaborated with Bleachers on the latter band’s “Goodmorning.” At the same time, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Weyes Blood united for a finale rendition of the Jackson Browne-written “These Days,” which was made famous by Nico on her 1967 first solo album Chelsea Girl. According to the organization’s website, the Antonoffs established the Ally Coalition in 2013. The website states that the organization “provides critical support for organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of LGBTQ youth and raises awareness about the systemic inequalities facing the LGBTQ population.” Previous years of the yearly fundraiser have included performances by artists such as Taylor Swift, the National, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent, and Hayley Williams of Paramore.

Jack Antonoff, responsible for producing the bulk of Taylor Swift’s most recent album, Midnights, will take Bleachers on the road in 2019 for a few high-profile festival gigs throughout the spring and summer months. The first edition of the Adjacent Festival will take place on May 27 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the band will make three performances at the Primavera Sound festival in Spain and Portugal at the beginning of June. In support of his recently released compilation CD, The Beacon Jams, Trey Anastasio continues to release videos commemorating his upcoming virtual residency in 2020. The most recent video is a snippet of “I Never Left Home,” which was recorded in New York City’s Beacon Theatre.

The Beacon Jams by Anastasio was released on November 25, and all of the earnings from the CD will be donated to the Divided Sky Foundation, which the guitarist founded. The studio recording of “I Never Left Home” can be found on Anastasio’s critically acclaimed album, Lonely Trip. On October 9, Trey presented the song for the first time during the first Beacon Jams performance. Goose, the frontman of Phish, will be a part of the side project band that the Phish frontman fronts. According to the Trey Anastasio Band website, fans can anticipate a complete performance from each round in addition to one-of-a-kind collaborations throughout the show.

Goose is a jam band from Connecticut that features Rick Mitarotonda on vocals and guitar, Peter Anspach on vocals, keyboards, and guitar, Trevor Weeks on bass, Ben Atkins on drums, and Jeff Arevalo on vocals, percussion, and drums. Jeff Arevalo is also a member of the band. In addition to an entire horn section, which features trombonist/vocalist Natalie Cressman, multi-instrumentalist James Casey, and longtime trumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, Anastasio’s band features drummer Russ Lawton, bassist Dezron Douglas, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski, and percussionist Cyro Baptista. Anastasio’s crew also includes an entire horn section.

Anastasio and the rest of his band returned to the stage after a brief intermission. “Set Your Soul Free” and “Love is What We Are” were the first two songs performed by the band group. To keep the mood light, they played “Mozambique,” “The Moma Dance,” and “Alive Again” before launching into “Curlew’s Call.” Following their performance of “Roll Like a River,” the band continued with crowd favorites “Magilla” and “Everything’s Right.” The frame was finished off with “Sand,” which was the penultimate “Valentine,” before Goose’s Peter Anspach and Rick Mitarotonda joined on keys and guitar, respectively, for “Wolfman’s Brother,” which was the last song of the set.
