Steven Furtick Jr. (born 19 February 1980) is the best-selling pastor, songwriter and author of the New Yor
k Times. He has assisted the multi-site Elevation Church, as its founder and pastor, using online streaming, TV and high-worship music to become a global ministry. He possesses a Master’s degree in theological Southern Baptist and is the author of Crash the Chatterbox, Greater, Sun Stand Still and (Un)Qualified and Seven-Mile Miracle.
Furtick was born and raised in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and attended high school in Berkeley. At 16 he felt himself called to pastor a church in a major city after reading Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala. Furtick was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Greenville and a Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Furtick made waves in 2007 when his church offered members $40,000 in $5.20 and even $1.000 in envelopes and instructed them to spend it nicely with others.
Under the direction of Furtick, Elevation Church has provided more than $10 million since 2006 to local and global partners. A collaboration was established in 2011 with Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx to spend 100,000 hours and $750,000 to benefit the Charlotte community.
Career
Since 2010, Furtick has organised a week-long event called Love Week in February at Elevation Church. Thousands of members of the Church’s 2010 Love Week packed over 10,000 homeless meals, helped single mothers to have their automobiles served, given blood, cleaned up parks and roads, erected local ministerial soccer fields and refurbishment facilities. In 2011, Furtick led Elevation and over 25 other local churches in a single week to serve more than 34,000 hours. In 2012, Elevation worked with 31 local churches to serve 62 communications organisations in Charlotte City for a total of 50,340 hours. More than 4,800 volunteers from the Furtick Church and other local churches attended over 400 events and participated in the construction of houses, storing food shops and feeding the hungry and homeless. At partnership with Presbyterian Hospital-matthews, Furtick and Elevation Church also committed $80,000 to support funding improvements and expansion in a local clinic.
In 2012, Furtick began an outreach initiative in Elevation Church called the M1 Initiative in response to the need of 1000 mentors for students from local schools. Furtick added, “We have always said we want to bless our town and help our leaders with a volunteer army on whom they can count.” Over 1,600 members answered and committed themselves to mentoring a youngster in the school year 2012-2013. The LGBT community raised worries regarding LGBT students’ initiative and well being because Furtick has branded homosexuality a sin.
With their three children Elijah, Graham, and Abbey, Furtick and his wife, Holly (born Boitnott), live in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2013, Furtick and his wife built a house on 19 acres of land in Charlotte’s suburb of Waxhaw, North Carolina. The valuation of the house was $1.78 million. Furtick said that his house was paid instead of his income from Church Elevation for money from his book sales and publisher’s advances. Elevation Church said that Furtick is generous to the church for money that it gets from the writing of books and arranges for the church to buy his books at a discount for the author and to maintain the cash from the sales.
Elevation Church also said that the publisher is paying for Furtick’s books by producing marketing materials. Elementation Church asserted that Furtick’s remuneration is decided by a board consisting of other pastors who vote on his wage on the basis of an external company compensation analysis. Furtick’s not voting on his own pay. In reaction to the news report, Furtick addressed the church directly before his sermon on the weekend of 27 October 2013, saying “I was sorry if the house and the surrounding questions made the congregation have a tough conversation.”
