Shawn Michaels Wiki/Bio

Michael Shawn Hickenbottom was born on July 22, 1965, in Chandler, Arizona, the son of Richard and Carol Hickenbottom. Randy and Scott are his older brothers, and Shari is his elder sister.

Because their father, Richard Hickenbottom, was a US Air Force officer, the Hickenbottom family was always on the move. Before migrating to San Antonio, Texas, where he spent his formative years, his family lived in Reading, Berkshire, England.

Even as a youngster, Shawn preferred the moniker “Shawn” over his given name, Michael. When he was six years old, he joined his school’s football team and began displaying his physical prowess. He rose through the ranks at Randolph High School on the Randolph Air Force Base, where he excelled as a linebacker before eventually becoming the team’s captain.

In his early twenties he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler. At the high school’s talent shows, he would frequently perform wrestling routines.

After completing high school, he moved to San Marcos, Texas, where he attended Southwest Texas State University. College wasn’t for him, and he left it to seek a career in professional wrestling. Hickenbottom made his professional wrestling debut with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) on October 16, 1984, under the ring name “Shawn Michaels,” under the tutelage of trainer Jose Lothario. He also worked for the American Wrestling Association (1986–1987) and the Texas All-Star Wrestling (TASW) from 1985 to 1986.

The Rockers (featuring Marty Jannetty) were temporarily signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 1987, but he was sacked after just two weeks owing to a “misunderstanding” with the company. He and Jannetty were forced to return to AWA as a result of this.

They were re-hired by WWE a year later, and made their return to action on July 7, 1988, in a WWF live event. Women and children alike flocked to the gathering in droves. Michaels made his WWE pay-per-view debut in a four-on-four match at the 1989 Survivors Series. On December 2, 1991, the Rockers disbanded after Michaels turned heel and superkicked and then threw Jannetty through a glass window.

Sensational Sherri, who sang the first version of ‘Sexy Boy’, was put together by WWE management to sing the new theme for him. He was defeated by Tito Santana at WrestleMania VIII in his debut pay-per-view singles match.

It was in June 1993 that he and Diesel forged an alliance. Two months later, Michaels was suspended after testing positive for steroids. In his WrestleMania X match against Razor Ramon, Dave Meltzer gave it a five-star rating.

Michaels had become WWE’s most popular wrestler by the beginning of 1995. WWE and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) were two of the most successful professional wrestling businesses in history at the time.

The Kliq, which included Michaels, Diesel, Ramon, and newcomer Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H), were dominating wrestlers in the promotion as a result of their close friendship with WWE chairman Vince McMahon.

Diesel and Ramon left WWE for WCW in May 1996. On May 19, Ramon and Helmsley joined Michaels and Diesel in the ring for a group hug following their match, which Michaels won. “Kayfabe” was deemed a significant breach at the time because Diesel and Helmsley were heels while Ramon and Michaels were the faces. The ‘Curtain Call’ is how the incident became known.

In the history of professional wrestling, only a handful of rivalries have held as much historical significance as the one between Shawn Michaels and Bret “The Hitman” Hart. The ‘Montreal Screwjob,’ as it became known, was the culmination of everything. In the 1997 Survivor Series in front of his hometown of Montreal, Hart was set to lose the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against Michaels. In any case, McMahon opted to give the title belt to Hart without informing him. In shock and wrath, Hart spit on McMahon and stormed out of WWE.

After being placed in a casket by The Undertaker at the 1998 Royal Rumble, Michaels was left with significant back damage. This culminated in his retiring for the first time on the night of WrestleMania XVI due to these injuries. He was the WWF Commissioner from November 1998 to June 2000 and held the position till then.

After an 18-month absence, he returned to WWE television in June 2002. The next eight years saw him work alongside legendary wrestlers like Kurt Angle, Triple H, Chris Jericho, John Cena, and Edge, cementing his place in the industry. WrestleMania XXVI in 2010 was the final bout of his career against The Undertaker.

Shawn Michaels hosted an outdoor television show called ‘Shawn Michaels’ MacMillan River Adventures’ in the years that followed. As an actor, he appeared in The Resurrection of Gavin Stone and Pure Country: Pure Heart during the 2017 calendar year.

Career

A native of the United States of America, Michael Shawn Hickenbottom is a former professional wrestler, actor, and TV host. Shawn Michaels is the ring moniker he goes by in the ring. Wrestling fans regard him as one of the finest all-around wrestlers in history. He’d been active in sports since he was six, and at 12, he made the decision to pursue a career in professional wrestling. After dropping out of college and joining the National Wrestling Alliance, he began training with Mexican professional wrestler Jose Lothario.

During this time, he worked as an independent wrestler and refined his talents until the World Wrestling Federation came knocking in 2013. As a wrestler in the company for 21 years, he appeared on several pay-per-views, five times closing ‘WrestleMania,’ and in some of the most iconic bouts in wrestling history. The Heartbreak Kid, “The Boy Toy,” and “The Showstopper” are just a few of his many monikers as a well-known wrestler. He announced his retirement in 2010 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame a year later. For more than two years, he served as an ambassador for the promotion and as a trainer at the WWE Performance Center in New York City.

Zondervan, an international Christian media and publishing business, released Michaels’ autobiography, “Wrestling for My Life: The Legend, the Reality, and the Faith of a WWE Superstar,” on February 10, 2015. David Thomas was one of the book’s co-authors. In 1988, Shawn Michaels married Theresa Lynn Wood, his first wife. In 1994, they got a divorce that was amicable. Through a mutual friend, Rich Minzer, he met Rebecca Curci, a member of WCW’s The Nitro Girls in the 1990s. They wed at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 31, 1999. Cameron Cade (born on January 15, 2000) and Cheyenne Cade (born on February 2, 2002) are the couple’s two children (August 19, 2004).

Angry and depressed, he turned to drugs and alcohol in the 1990s. For the first time, he decided to change his ways after marrying Curci and the birth of their son. He was raised as a Catholic, but after meeting his wife, he became a born-again Christian. Michaels and his wife sold their San Antonio home in 2010 and moved to their ranch in Texas, where they have lived since. In Texas, he began his career. Shawn Michaels, a wrestler trained by the renowned Jose Lothario, met Marty Jannetty while competing in Kansas. Once again, Marty Jannetty approached him after he had sent videos of his matches to major wrestling companies at the time and was approached by the AWA. The Midnight Rockers were formed by Michaels and Jannetty.

In the wake of the AWA’s recent TV deal with ESPN, his career took off.  Those fights were dubbed “bloodbaths” back then. Midnight Rockers eventually triumphed and became AWA World Tag Team Champions. Eventually Their efforts were noted by the WWF (now known as WWE), and they signed on as a result of their efforts. For an alleged miscommunication in a pub, both Michaels and Jannetty were dismissed soon after. It was a fleeting return to the AWA for the two of them. Eventually, they got in touch with WWF, who offered them another chance, and they came back in late 1988 to finish their mission. The Rockers were the group’s nickname. Many current wrestling teams have been influenced greatly by the duo. It was their signature to be tag team experts and to use fantastic double-team manoeuvres on their opponents.

The Brain Busters, The Fabulous Rougeaus, The Hart Foundation, The Orient Express, and Power & Glory were important foes in their feuds with them. The Rockers once held the WWF Tag Team Championships. Tapes of the contest were made before it was broadcast. The Hart Foundation’s Jim Neidhart was in the process of negotiating his release at the moment, but he ultimately agreed to stay. Both teams had their Tag Team titles revoked after a turnbuckle collapsed during their match, and the Hart Foundation received them back as a result. After the Rockers split up and Shawn Michaels became a singles wrestler after turning on his partner Marty Jannetty, he made his debut as a professional wrestler.

Relatedly, it has been reported that Shawn Michaels met with Vince McMahon to discuss the role he would portray. A singles wrestler’s push is something he’d like to see, he informed him, because of the hard work he did. He was curious as to how he could persuade Vince McMahon to agree to this. In McMahon’s words, all he had to do was show up and ask for help. Wrestling at WrestleMania for the first time, Michaels defeated Tito Santana. Sherri Martel, his manager, was rumoured to have a crush on the actor. On Saturday Night’s Main Event, Michaels pulled off a massive upset by defeating The British Bulldog. Thus, Michaels won the Intercontinental Championship from the Bulldog. Michaels fought Marty Jannetty for the Intercontinental Championship on Raw one night in May 1993. Pro Wrestling Illustrated named the encounter their “Match of the Year.” Jannetty emerged victorious in the fight.
