Rick Riordan Wiki/Bio
Rick Riordan was born on June 5, 1964, in the Texas city of San Antonio. Currently, he is 56 years old. He joined North Texas State University’s music program in the hopes of becoming a musician after graduating from Alamo Heights High School. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in English and History.
He graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a teaching certificate in those subjects. He spent eight years at Presidio Hill School in San Francisco, where he taught English and Social Studies.
Rick married Becky Riordan on their mutual birthday in 1985. Haley and Patrick are their two sons. In June 2013, they relocated from San Antonio to Boston in order for their older son Haley to begin college there.
Riordan is the author of many famous book series. The Shamus, Anthony, and Edgar Awards were given to Tres Navarre, an adult mystery series featuring a Texas private detective.
Career
He came up with the concept for the Percy Jackson series as a bedtime story for his son Haley about ancient Greek heroes. Haley was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, which inspired Riordan to make the titular character ADHD and dyslexic.
In 2005, Riordan released The Lightning Thief, the first book in the series. Four more sequels followed, the most recent of which, The Last Olympian, was released in 2009. Prior to Percy Jackson, Riordan published the Tres Navarres trilogy, a collection of adult mystery novels.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a story about a twelve-year-old boy who learns he is the modern-day son of the Greek god Poseidon. The production rights were acquired by Twentieth Century Fox, who released a feature film in 2010. After the popularity of Percy Jackson, Riordan produced The Kane Chronicles, which includes a modern-day Egyptian pantheon and two new siblings, Sadie and Carter Kane. The Heroes of Olympus, a sequel series to Percy Jackson, was also produced by Riordan.
Riordan has contributed to the development of the 39 Clues children’s book series. He wrote some of the company’s novels, including The Maze of Bones, which debuted at number one on The New York Times Best Seller List on September 28, 2008.
