Rand Paul Wiki/Bio
Randal Howard Paul, was born on January 7, 1963, and has served as the junior United States Senator representing Kentucky since 2011. He is the son of Ron Paul, a former three-time presidential candidate and 12-term United States Representative from Texas.
Paul is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine and a Baylor University graduate. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Paul started practising ophthalmology in Bowling Green, Kentucky, in 1993. In 2003, he resigned from the American Board of Ophthalmology and declared his National Board of Ophthalmology self-certified. He continued to work and, in December 2007, opened his own clinic. Paul first entered politics in 2010 when he ran for a seat in the United States Senate. Paul, a Republican, has identified himself as a constitutional conservative and a Tea Party enthusiast.
Paul was a student at Baylor University from the fall of 1981 through the summer of 1984, where he was a member of the honours programme. During his time at Baylor, he was a member of the swim team and the Young Conservatives of Texas, as well as a secret society known for its irreverent humour, the NoZe Brotherhood. He was a regular contributor to The Baylor Lariat, a student newspaper at Baylor University. When Paul was accepted into his father’s alma mater, the Duke University School of Medicine, which did not require an undergraduate degree for admittance to its graduate school at the time, he dropped out of Baylor without finishing his baccalaureate degree. In 1988, he received his M.D., and in 1993, he finished his residency.
Career
The American Board of Ophthalmology certified Paul to practise in 1995. (ABO). The ABO had revised its certification programme three years before, in 1992, from awarding lifetime certifications to requiring ophthalmologists to recertify every 10 years, while those who had already been granted lifetime certification were not obliged to recertify. Paul thought this was unjust, and he launched a campaign to require all ophthalmologists to recertify every ten years. He founded the National Board of Ophthalmology (NBO) in 1997 to provide an alternative certification method at a lesser cost than the ABO. One test taker described its certification exam, an open book take-home test that Paul helped develop, as “possibly harder” and “more clinically relevant” than the ABO’s. Paul nominated members of his own family to the board of directors, and the board was registered to an inaccurate address.
President Obama urged Paul to stop “stopping the execution of tax treaties that have been languishing for years” during a press conference on May 6, 2016, noting that they aided law enforcement in off-shore investigations into tax cheating. During a speech to the National Rifle Association on May 20, Paul called for the removal of gun-free zones, citing the tragedies that had occurred in these areas. Paul ran against Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway in the general election of 2010. Outside groups contributed a total of $8.5 million to the campaign, with $6 million going to Paul and $2.5 million going to Conway. This money came on top of the money spent by the candidates themselves:
