Post Malone was born on July 4, 1995, as Austin Richard Post to Rich Post and his first wife in Syracuse, New York, USA. His parents eventually divorced, and he was raised by his father, who was a disc jockey in his youth, and his second wife, Jodie Post. He also introduced young Austin to various musical genres such as country, rock, and hip-hop.
Malone and his family moved to Texas when he was nine years old, after his father was hired as a concessions manager for the Dallas Cowboys.
After watching the video game ‘Guitar Hero,’ he began learning to play the guitar. In 2010, he auditioned for the American rock band ‘Crown the Empire,’ but was turned down.
At the age of 16, he used the digital audio editor Audacity to create his first mixtape, titled ‘Young and After Them Riches.’ He shared it with some of his classmates at Grapevine High School, and as a senior, he was voted “Most Likely to Become Famous” by them.
He briefly attended Tarrant County College. However, he dropped out and relocated to Los Angeles, California with his friend and professional game streamer Jason Probst. After relocating to Los Angeles, Post Malone, Probst, and a few other artists and producers formed the group BLCKVRD and began creating music together. Soon after, Malone wrote and released the song “White Iverson” in August 2015. He released a music video for the song on July 19, 2015.
Within a month of its release, the song “White Iverson” received over one million views, propelling Malone to prominence in the music industry.

He also performed at Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday party in August 2015. During the party, he met Kanye West, who was impressed by him and invited him to collaborate on his single “Fade” from the album “The Life of Pablo.” Malone later collaborated with a number of well-known rappers, including 50 Cent and Young Thug.
In 2016, the American rapper collaborated with Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber as the opening act for Bieber’s Purpose World Tour.
Malone debuted his new song “Go Flex” on Beats 1 on April 20, 2016. In May of that year, he released his first full-length mixtape, titled ‘August 26.’ He also made his TV debut on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ the same year.
