Ozzy Osbourne Wiki/Bio
Ozzy Osbourne is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He rose to notoriety in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, earning the moniker “Prince of Darkness” during that time. Due to drinking and drug problems, Ozzy Osbourne was sacked from Black Sabbath in 1979.
She had a successful solo career, releasing 12 studio albums, the first seven of which were certified multi-platinum in the United States. Ozzy Osbourne has rejoined with Black Sabbath multiple times since then. He returned in 1997 and assisted in the recording of the group’s final studio album, 13 (2013), before embarking on a farewell tour that culminated in a performance in their hometown of Bielefeld, Germany, in February 2017.

As a member of Black Sabbath, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the UK Music Hall of Fame as a solo artist and as a member of the band. Osbourne was born in the Birmingham suburb of Aston. Lilian (née Unitt; 1916–2001), his mother, was a non-practicing Catholic who worked at a factory throughout the day.
His father, John Thomas “Jack” Osbourne (1915–1977), was a toolmaker for the General Electric Company and worked night shifts. Osbourne dropped out of school at the age of 15 and worked as a construction site labourer, a trainee plumber, and an apprentice plumber. Geezer Butler started his first band, Rare Breed, in late 1967 and quickly enlisted Ozzy Osbourne as a vocalist. After two gigs, the band disbanded.
In Polka Tulk Blues, Osbourne and Butler reunited with guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward, whose band Mythology had recently disbanded. They called themselves Earth, but after being mistakenly booked for a show instead of a concert, they had to rebrand themselves again. They made the decision to change their name once more.
The band had noticed how much people enjoyed being scared, so they decided to play a strong blues type of music with ominous sounds and lyrics. Butler read an occult book while recording their first album and awoke seeing a sinister figure. Despite a small investment from their US record label Warner Bros. Records, Black Sabbath found immediate and long-term success.
Early albums like Black Sabbath and Paranoid, which featured Tony Iommi’s guitar riffs, Geezer Butler’s lyrics, Bill Ward’s heavy tempo drumbeats, and Ozzy Osbourne’s creepy vocals, sold a lot of records and had a lot of airplay. Osbourne met his future wife, Sharon Arden, around this period.
Osbourne confesses he was immediately drawn to her, but figured she “must have thought I was insane.” The band released Master of Reality only five months after the release of Paranoid. In less than two months, the album was certified gold in both the United States and the United Kingdom. It was certified platinum in the 1980s and double platinum in the early twenty-first century. Black Sabbath released the critically praised Sabbath Bloody Sabbath in November 1973. The band garnered positive reviews in the mainstream press for the first time. Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic deemed the album a “masterpiece, vital to an understanding of music” decades later. In 1978, Osbourne took a three-month hiatus from the band to work on a solo project dubbed Blizzard of Ozz, a moniker offered by his father.
Three members of the band Necromandus, who had previously supported Sabbath in Birmingham as Earth, joined Osbourne in the studio and became the first iteration of his solo band. Osbourne rejoined Sabbath at the invitation of the other members. Never Say Die! was written and recorded over the course of five months at Sounds Interchange Studios in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. “It took a long time,” Iommi admitted. “We were getting pretty high, doing a lot of dope,” says the narrator.
