Mutya Buena Wiki/Bio

Buena was born and raised in the London borough of Kingsbury, where he attended Kingsbury High School. It is believed that her father is Filipino with some Spanish ancestry, and her mother is of Irish lineage. Buena gave birth to her daughter Tahlia on the 23rd of March, 2005. On the Sugababes’ third studio album, Three, Buena dedicated a song to her late sister Maya.

Buena had four UK number one songs with the Sugababes, as well as six other top-ten hits and three multi-platinum albums during her time with the group. She released her first solo album, Real Girl, in June 2007, following her departure from the group in December 2005. In October 2010, Mutya Buena issued a compilation album titled Sound of Camden: Mutya Buena, which was dedicated to British singers of the time.

Buena and her former Sugababes bandmates Donaghy and Buchanan announced their reunion on July 20, 2012, via social media. The original three first chose to release music under the moniker MKS (Mutya Keisha Siobhan), releasing one track, “Flatline,” in 2013 under that moniker. In September of this year, the group formally declared their return as the Sugababes on their official website.

Mutya collaborated with electronic music producer duo Ryuken on the single “The One,” which was released in May 2021 on New State Music and was inspired by UK Garage. The Sugababes were created in 1998 by Siobhán Donaghy, Keisha Buchanan, and Buena, who were all members of the band. The band’s debut album, One Touch, was released in November 2000 and peaked at number twenty-six on the UK Albums Chart, earning them a gold certification in the process.

Two songs from the album hit the top ten, and the album’s debut single “Overload” was nominated for a BRIT Award for “Best British Single.” One-Touch produced four singles, three of which reached the top twenty. The album’s sales did not reach the expectations of London Records, and the group was consequently pulled from the label’s roster.

A second studio album, Angels with Dirty Face, was released in August 2002 by Island Records under the name Angels with Dirty Face. The record, which was influenced by the new wave, dance, and pop music of the 1980s, achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number two and went triple platinum. Among its many accomplishments were the release of two number one singles and a nomination for “Best British Album” at the 2003 BRIT Awards.

Three, the third studio album by the Sugababes, was released in October 2003. It peaked at number three in the UK and spawned four singles, all of which reached the top ten in their respective countries. Taller in More Ways was the group’s fourth studio album, which was released in October 2005. In the United Kingdom, the album peaked at number one and went double platinum.

On the 21st of December, 2005, it was reported that Buena will be leaving the Sugababes. Their official website stated that “[Buenadecision ]’s was totally personal in nature and she will continue to be the best of friends with both and Range.” Buena subsequently revealed in an interview that she was suffering from postnatal depression following the birth of her baby, which she attributed to the group’s increasingly stressful schedules.

She stated that she chose to quit in order to spend more time with her daughter. “…we will all miss Mutya, but we also realized there was still room for bringing in somebody fresh who could help us go on taking the Sugababes style of music forward,” stated Buchanan, the only remaining original member, following Buena’s departure. Forty-eight hours after Buena’s departure, Amelle Berrabah arrived at the location.

Following her departure from the Sugababes, Buena began working on her debut album in early 2006, after contracting with her previous label, Universal Island Records, following her departure from the group. She also provided vocals to the Groove Armada album Soundboy Rock, which was released in 2004.

This Is Not Real Love,” a ballad duet with George Michael, was the first single to be released in the United Kingdom that had Buena as a featured artist. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 15 when it was released in November 2006. The title track, “Real Girl,” was published in early 2007 and served as a prelude to the album’s release. It peaked at number two in the United Kingdom and was nominated for a BRIT Award for “Best Single.”

The song, which samples Lenny Kravitz’s smash “It Ain’t Over The song “Real Girl” was also included in the soundtrack for Sex and the City, Vol 2: More Music. Buena’s debut album, Real Girl, reached at number 10 on the UK Albums Chart in its first week of availability.

Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control), her duet with dance duo Groove Armada, was published in the United Kingdom on July 7, 2007, and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2007. The fourth single from the album, “Just a Little Bit,” peaked at number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Buena also teamed with Amy Winehouse on a re-working of the Ronettes’ song “Be My Baby,” which was released as a single in the UK and peaked at number 73 on the UK top 75 singles chart. During the 2007 British “Music of Black Origin” (MOBO) awards ceremony, which took place at the O2 Arena in London on October 1, 2007, Buena was nominated for a MOBO award. Buena was dropped by her record company on February 12, 2008, citing poor sales and chart positions from her previous album Real Girl, as well as her most recent singles “Just a Little Bit” and “B-Boy Baby.”

Career

Buena made an appearance on Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong in October of 2008. The song “With You” from Asher D’s album Ashley Walters was released in January 2009, and Buena also appeared on the Don-E track “The Time Is Now,” which was released the same month.

Besides that, she promoted her collaborations with Agent X, including the singles “Fallin'” and “Give Back,” as well as with Tah Mac. NightShift, a London-based production duo that specializes in urban/funky house and reggae music, has released their debut single, which features a slew of UK, US, and Jamaican artists.

Vegas, among others. MegaMan (of the So Solid Crew) is featured on the track. Following Buena’s rejection, Pitbull recorded the song under the title “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” as a follow-up. In September 2010, she contributed to the album The Sound of Camden, which was recorded in Israel with music producer Roy Sela and featured six songs written by her.

The record, which is about the Camden Town market in London, has been available for purchase both at the market and online since its release. It was in this vein that she produced a series of versions of rock songs by bands such as U2, The Pixies, and Iron Maiden, all in a chilled-out lounge environment.

Buena said in October 2010 that she was no longer interested in pursuing a career in the music industry and that she is currently pursuing a degree in psychology with a focus on child psychology. However, despite the disbanding, Buena formed a collaboration with City Boy Soul, a band comprised of former Damage singer Coree Richards and British rapper Gak Jonze, and released the single “Be Ok” on the internet in January 2011.

Buena also contributed lead vocals to the song “Give Me Love,” which was written by UK DJ/Producer Paul Morrell. Mutya was planning to release “My Love,” which would include Thor Alaye, in early 2012, as well as “Bedroom,” which would feature Shide Boss, later that year. [need revision] On the 28th of May, 2011, Buena played at the Birmingham Gay Pride Parade. Mutya posted a demo on Soundcloud in 2011 titled “All B4”, which may be heard below.

Buena was accepted into Celebrity Big Brother 6 as a housemate on the 2nd of January, 2009. She walked out of the Big Brother house on the 16th of January 2009, the 15th day of the series, after surviving eviction the previous night. On 31 August 2014, she became the last celebrity housemate to leave the show, following Claire King, who exited the Summer 2014 series of Celebrity Big Brother on 31 August 2014.

It was reported in October 2011 by many news outlets that the Sugababes’ original line-up might reassemble. Following the announcements by both Buena and Buchanan on Twitter that they were in the studio with “two other females” as well as British rapper Professor Green in January 2012, speculation about the group’s re-formation grew. Buena, on the other hand, later contradicted this on Twitter, writing: “There was no track with Keisha or Professor G, but he was in the vicinity of the studio. At the moment, I’m just putting the finishing touches on my work.

Despite this, Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé revealed to MTV UK that she had written new songs for Buena, Buchanan, and Donaghy, stating that she had written the following: “That is correct, to be sure. This is the first time I’ve written for the Sugababes’ original lineup, which makes me extremely happy because I absolutely adored them when they originally came out.

I really liked their sound; it was really amazing. It was a completely different experience, and I’m grateful to have been a part of the beginning of the Sugababes’ adventure. When Donaghy announced on Twitter that new music was on its way, the response was overwhelmingly positive “The earliest it will happen is in two weeks. The most recent is ten weeks.” Sugababes was the moniker given to the new trio, and their debut album, One Touch, was released in 2000, with the single “Overload” reaching the top ten of the UK singles chart.

The group’s second album, Angels with Dirty Faces, was a smash, going triple platinum and scoring four hit singles in the United Kingdom, including two that reached number one, “Freak Like Me” and “Round Round.” While the group parted ways with its British record label after One Touch failed to chart and Heidi Range replaced Donaghy in the group’s lineup, Sugababes’ second album, Angels with Dirty Faces, was a smash.

While the Sugababes enjoyed similar success with their third studio album, 2003’s Three, Buena’s final album with the group, 2005’s Taller in More Ways, proved to be her farewell album with the group; she gave birth to her daughter, Tahlia-Maya Buena, in March 2005 and resigned from the group in December 2005 to spend more time with her child.

A replacement for Buena was quickly found in Amelle Berrabah, who re-recorded her vocal parts for a single release of “Red Dress,” taken from Taller in More Ways, which was released in April. She began publishing recordings of new songs on her MySpace profile in 2006 and has since had a hit single with George Michael, “This Is Not Real Love,” as well as appearing on Groove Armada’s album Soundboy Rock, where she sang guest vocals as part of the band’s lineup. Real Girl, Buena’s much anticipated solo debut, was released in June 2007 to critical acclaim.
