Linda Ronstadt Wiki/Bio

Linda Ronstadt  was born in the year 1946 in Tucson, Arizona, United States. Linda Maria Ronstadt is her birth name, and she is 72 years old. Gilbert Ronstadt is her father’s name, and Ruth Mary Cope-man Ronstadt is her mother’s name. She came from a powerful family in Arizona who made significant contributions in fields such as commerce, waggon building, poetry, and others, all of which are recorded in the University of Arizona library. Her father used to play the guitar, and her mother used to play the ukulele.

The University of Arizona’s library chronicles the family’s influence and contributions to Arizona’s history, including waggon making, commerce, pharmacies, and literature.

Friedrich August Ronstadt, her great-grandfather, immigrated to the Southwest from Hanover, Germany, in the 1840s, married a Mexican citizen, and eventually settled in Tucson. On March 16, 1991, the City of Tucson dedicated its central transit terminal to Linda’s grandfather, Federico Jose Maria Ronstadt, a local immigrant businessman who was a waggon maker whose early contribution to the city’s mobility involved the delivery of six mule-drawn streetcars in 1903–04.

Linda Ronstadt dated Jim Carrey for eight months in 1983. Ronstadt was engaged to Star Wars director George Lucas from the end of 1983 to the end of 1988. Mary Clementine, her newborn daughter, was adopted in December 1990. Carlos Ronstadt, her adoptive son, was born in 1994. Ronstadt is a single woman who has never dated.

Career

Linda started her career as a member of the Stone Poneys, a folk-rock band. She also starred as herself in many television shows during the late 1960s and early 1970s, including It, ‘s Happening (1968-69), Cher (1975), and Saturday Night Live (1977 onward). She also used her voice for a number of advertisements.

During her Easter break from college in 1964, Ronstadt met a friend from Tucson, Bobby Kimmel, in Los Angeles, and later that year, just before her eighteenth birthday, she agreed to move there permanently to join a band with him. In the years 1967–68, the trio recorded three albums: The Stone Poneys, Evergreen, Volume 2; and Linda Ronstadt, Stone Poneys and Friends, Vol. III. The band is best known for their hit song “Different Drum,” which charted at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 12 in Cashbox magazine. The song is now one of Ronstadt’s most successful recordings nearly 50 years later.

Silk Purse, Ronstadt’s second solo album, was released in March 1970. Elliot Mazer, who Ronstadt picked on the recommendation of Janis Joplin, who had collaborated with him on the Cheap Thrills album, produced the album, which was completely recorded in Nashville. The front and rear covers of the Silk Purse album portrayed Ronstadt in a filthy pigpen, while the bottom and inside covers depicted her onstage in neon red. Ronstadt has expressed dissatisfaction with the record, despite the fact that it gave her her first solo hit, the multi-format single “Long, Long Time,” and gained her first Grammy nomination.

Ronstadt had carved out a niche for herself in the country-rock genre. She, along with other artists such as the Flying Burrito Brothers, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, Swampwater, Neil Young, and the Eagles, helped deconstruct misconceptions of country music and demonstrated to rockers that country was appropriate. She did admit, though, that she was being forced to sing more rock and roll.

Ronstadt embarked on an overseas tour in 1979, performing in venues throughout Australia and Japan, including the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Budokan in Tokyo. She also sang at The Forum in Los Angeles for a charity concert for her friend Lowell George.

Mad Love, Ronstadt’s seventh consecutive platinum-selling album, was released in February 1980. It was a simplistic rock and roll album with post-punk and new wave elements, including songs by Elvis Costello, the Cretones, and guitarist Mark Goldenberg, who also performed on the album.

Hummin’ to Myself, Ronstadt’s album for Verve Records, was released in 2004. It was her first foray into popular jazz since her sessions with Jerry Wexler and recordings with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, albeit with a smaller jazz ensemble this time. Ronstadt kept the album’s marketing to a minimum, offering only a few interviews and a single television appearance. It debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums chart, but only reached #166 on the overall Billboard album chart. Hummin’ To Myself has sold over 75,000 copies in the United States as of 2010, despite not getting the mainstream distribution that Warner Music Group provided. It also received some critical acclaim from jazz aficionados.

In August 2007, Ronstadt performed at the Newport Folk Festival for the first time, incorporating jazz, punk, and folk music into her setlist. On the Chieftains’ studio album San Patricio, Ronstadt contributed the arrangement and lead vocal to “A La Orilla de un Palmar” in 2010. As lead vocalist, this is her most recent commercially available album. Ronstadt declared her retirement in an interview with the Arizona Daily Star in 2011. She announced to AARP writer Alanna Nash in August 2013 that she has Parkinson’s disease and “can no longer sing a note.” Her condition was later reclassified as chronic supranuclear palsy.
