The achievements that Lee Asher has made as a magician are only one small part of his extensive list of accomplishments. The majority of people who read this article are going to be particularly interested in his ability in the field of playing cards because he describes himself as a “specialist in playing cards and sleight of hand.” After a hiatus of several years, I’ve recently rekindled my interest in playing card games, and I’ve noticed that his name keeps cropping up in a variety of contexts. During the course of my investigation into several topics, including the famous Jerry Nuggets Playing Cards, I came across his excellent article concerning the topic.
When I was looking for information about dating playing cards, his name came up again, this time in connection with another essay that was extremely comprehensive and authoritative on the subject. PlayingCardForum.com, the official online portal for the 52 Plus Joker American Playing Card Collector Club, informed me that Lee is in fact the current President of this highly regarded organization for collectors of playing cards. This information was provided to me by the 52 Plus Joker American Playing Card Collector Club.
All of this is to indicate that when it comes to experience with playing cards, it is difficult to think of someone with superior credentials than Lee Asher. All of these things point to the fact that Lee Asher is an excellent choice. It is clear that he is knowledgeable about the topic he is discussing due to the fact that he has firsthand experience in the field, having worked as a magician and a collector and having served as President of 52 Plus Joker. And thankfully for us, Lee was delighted to talk to us and agreed to this interview, in which he answers questions about himself, about playing cards, collecting, and of course, about 52 Plus Joker. This was a great opportunity for us.
My age is 42, and I come from a family of magicians, so sleight of hand is in my blood. At the ripe old age of seven, my father instructed me in the art of magic. Around the age of fifteen, I began my career as a magician by giving paid performances in restaurants and at private parties. I was born and raised in the state of Florida, but eventually, I made the journey all the way to Las Vegas, Nevada, to attend university and major in casino management (UNLV). In the immediate aftermath of my graduation in 1999, I packed all of my belongings into a storage locker in Las Vegas, and I headed to Paris, France, to follow my heart.
During this wonderful time in my life, I also went on tour throughout Europe, where I performed magic and taught other magicians my particular kind of sleight of hand. As soon as I established my dominance in Europe, I began giving performances and lectures in cities all over the rest of the world. Some of these cities include London, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, Kuala Lumpur, Perth, Shanghai, Taipei, Santo Domingo, Beijing, Tokyo, Glasgow, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong, and many others.
After some time, I settled back down in the Americas. I am now happily married to the woman of my dreams and residing in Canada. Christina is the name of the woman I married. While we do not have any children of our own, we do have a large and wonderful boxer named Quinton. It was my father. During the day, he works as an ophthalmologist, and at night, he performs magic. It was because of him that I became interested in the craft of magic. It is impossible to adequately reflect on his significance in only a few hundred words as there are just that many words available. In spite of this, I’d like to tell you a few intriguing things about my father, Mark Horowitz.
Let’s go back in time to the middle of the 1950s, when my dad was a young boy. The only other cities in the United States that could compete with New York City when it came to the magic scene were Chicago and Los Angeles. Dad was fortunate enough to receive instruction from a few of New York City’s most talented magicians. His appreciation for the craft was cultivated by mega legends such as Al Flosso and Lou Tannen. My grandfather learned the fundamentals of magic from these mystical gentlemen. It’s fair to say that Dad’s formative experiences helped shape him into the magician he is today. You could hear him waxing nostalgic about the times he spent in the well-known magic stores of New York City on occasion.
BTW, Dad never became a full-time pro. Despite this, he was able to put himself through college and optometry school by doing magic tricks at various venues. After completing his education, he went on to earn his optometry license and eventually opened his own business. In addition to that, Swan Optical and HydroCurve, a major contact lens brand that is owned by Revlon, hired him to perform as their resident trade fair magician. In addition to his regular employment, Dad traveled the country to host high-ranking executives and prominent customers of the optical business. He did this on top of his regular job. Without a shadow of a doubt, it was my father’s efforts that paved the road for me to pursue a career in magic as a professional.
In addition, if you’ve met him before, you already know that one of Dad’s favorite pastimes is collecting antiques from when he was younger. He will add it to his collection if thinking about his glorious history brings back warm and fuzzy feelings. It goes without saying that one cannot possess everything. Therefore, just like any experienced collector would, he has honed his tastes throughout the course of his collecting career. At the moment, he favors purchasing magic-themed comic books, signed copies of magic books, and one-of-a-kind trinkets related to magic. As a result of his lifetime interest in collecting, he amassed the most extensive collection of magic comic books in the world. Because of this remarkable accomplishment, he was featured on the cover of MAGIC Magazine in April 2007.
My father started early in his life to immerse himself in the political side of magic and became an expert in the field. On a local, state, and national scale, he has graciously assisted in the organization of IBM magic gatherings, lectures, and conferences year after year. He is continuously active in the activities of the IBM magic club in his hometown to this very day. There is no doubt that his undying respect for the craft of magic is demonstrated by the incredible dedication he has shown to the organization over the course of his whole life and the great service he has provided to it. Even though I won’t be able to address all of your questions in this moving tribute because I’ve run out of space, please know that the love I have for my father will never end.
My dad had already accumulated a handful of decks from years of performing and collecting, so my earliest memories of holding cards and practicing were with US Playing Card Company (USPCC) 808 Series Bicycle ‘Rider’ backs. This was because my dad had been performing and collecting for years. I didn’t have to look very far before I came upon Tally-Ho’s, Bees, Blue Ribbons, and Aristocrats. In due time, I was also able to get my hands on products from other manufacturers, such as Hoyle (shellbacks). You are aware that each of these decks was manufactured in the United States. It wasn’t until 1989 that I got my hands on my first European deck. I was in the 13th grade. Additionally, the Klutz Book of Card Magic was published about this time. It also included a bridge-sized deck of Piatnic playing cards in the package. They shone with splendor! I’ve never held a deck of cards that were so substantial, smooth, and thick.
The production of goods and the manner in which they are acquired have both been revolutionized as a result of the website Kickstarter and the concept of crowd fundraising. When Kickstarter first started in 2009, there were less than fifty decks that had been released; today, there are hundreds more decks each year that are asking for funding. A little under half of those ideas are successful in garnering financial support and assistance from investors. That is very astounding when taken into consideration alongside everything else! More importantly, Kickstarter is the place where we’re witnessing fantastic innovation at the grassroots level. If a sufficient number of people feel that a project is not worthwhile, then that project will not be supported. Therefore, nobody wastes their time on R&D which isn’t necessary.
The projects that are funded are the ones that the majority of people want. That is already an invention in and of itself. And because of the little risk involved with crowdfunding a project, more cutting-edge and innovative ideas are being proposed. Any of the larger card manufacturers who produce greeting cards will not explore these kinds of concepts because they are afraid of wasting money “testing the waters.” But it gets better. The internet makes it easier for fans to connect with their favorite performers. Which in turn drives artists to push the limits of what they are able to achieve in their work. This partnership is a stunning example of symbiosis.
Playing card makers are constantly on the lookout for creative solutions to satisfy customers’ needs. As a direct consequence of this, once-revered practices from bygone eras, as well as ground-breaking innovations, are making a significant comeback, although in a contemporary context. As a result, I am confident that the following 10 years will usher in a new wave of inventive enhancements to stocks and finishes. After completing the aesthetic in a successful manner, it is now time for us to pioneer previously undiscovered tactile fronts. Already at the forefront of the industry are pioneering businesses such as Expert Playing Card Co. and Cartamundi. Cardistry, magic, and card games all contribute to innovation in their own unique ways.
However, Lee Asher’s credentials go much further than the brand-new efforts that are generated because of the fact that he is a magician. Although the author of the blog post describes themselves as a “to tackle cards and you may sleight of hand pro,” it is specifically their experience in the field of handcrafted cards that draw the attention of the majority of the blog post’s visitors. After a considerable amount of time, when I once again had a demand for handcrafted greeting cards, I looked for information regarding their origin in a variety of places.
When contrasting different aspects, such as the newly known Jerry Nuggets Credit cards, I discovered that he was a good report on the niche. We found out that Lee is the current Chairman of it very recognized provider having loan companies out of playing cards through the specialized online webpage for the 52 And additionally Joker American Playing Credit Enthusiast Bar, which is called PlayingCardForum. This forum is dedicated to enthusiasts of playing cards in the United States.
This is to bring to your attention the fact that in terms of the experience that having handmade cards, it is difficult to conceive of anyone with a more distinguished past than Lee Asher alone. As a result of his own personal experience as a successful magician and as a creditor, in addition to his connection with 52 And in addition Joker, in order for it to be evident that he is aware of what Jewish dating services are, it is necessary for him to grasp what these services are.
And thank god for people, Lee tries to be happy to keep in contact with you, agreeing to that particular interview, and then he answers questions about themselves, throughout the playing cards, about the event, and of course, from the 52 And Joker. Then why don’t we just hand them over to Lee and listen to what he has to say for a change? Immediately after graduating from high school in 1999, I deposited all of my possessions in a storage locker in Las Vegas, and then I followed my heart to Paris, France. During this glorious period of living, I even traveled as far as Europe at the beginning of my life and practiced my particular brand of sleight-of-hand with a great number of other magicians.
