She was accepted at the ‘State University of New York’ after graduating from high school. Rather than going to college, she chose to spend a year on Long Island. She worked as a waitress and lived with her uncle and aunt. She also learned to play the guitar from her uncle during this time. She enrolled at ‘Fordham University’ when she was 19 years old, majoring in philosophy with a focus on metaphysics.
Elizabeth Woolridge Grant began writing songs and performing in clubs under the moniker “Lizzy Grant.” She registered a CD of originals under her birth name with the “US Copyright Office” in 2005, and the result was the album “Sirens.” It was, however, never released.
She started her YouTube account a few years later. She published the videos for the songs “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” in 2011, which were extremely popular on the internet. Soon after, she was signed to ‘Stranger Records,’ and her debut single, ‘Video Games,’ was released. Around this time, she changed her name to Lana Del Rey.
In January 2012, her debut album, “Born to Die,” was published. It grew in popularity and acclaim around the world, eventually becoming the number one album in 11 countries. It went on to sell 3.4 million copies in 2012, making it the sixth best-selling album of the year.
Del Rey’s next album, “Ultraviolence,” was published in June 2014 through “UMG Records.” The album debuted at the top of the ‘US Billboard 200,’ with smash singles like ‘Cruel World,’ ‘Ultraviolence,’ ‘Shades of Cool,’ and ‘Brooklyn Baby.’ It sold over a million copies in the first six months after its debut.
In September 2015, her new album, “Honeymoon,” was released by Polydor Records and Interscope Records. It was an instant hit, and it opened at number two on the US Billboard 200, just like her prior work. The majority of critics gave it positive reviews.
Del Rey’s next album, “Lust for Life,” was released in 2017. In 2019, she teamed with Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande on the song “Don’t Call Me Angel,” which was released as the lead single from the soundtrack for the comedy picture “Charlie’s Angels.” She also released the non-album single “Looking for America” in the same year. Lana Del Rey’s studio album, “Born to Die,” is one of her most well-known works. In January of 2012, the album was released.
The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 and sold 77,000 copies in its first week. The album, which features popular singles including “Born to Die,” “Off to the Races,” “Blue Jeans,” and “Video Games,” was a worldwide success.
