For nearly thirty years, John Nettles has been a recognisable face on British and international television screens.From his early days as the Jersey investigator “Jim Bergerac” in the UK blockbuster comedy The Liver Birds (1969), he became a household celebrity overnight. Bergerac (1981) was a tremendous smash in the United Kingdom, and it was exported to many nations throughout the world, including France, Spain, and Greece, where it gained him thousands of followers.
His newfound renown as Bergerac brought him near-film-star status and money, not to mention thousands of female fans!
Despite the fact that Bergerac (1981) was cancelled in the early 1990s, the series continues to have a loyal following and lasting appeal abroad, particularly on Jersey, where images of John Nettles are still used to promote tourism destinations and other services.
