Jewish-Canadian woman with curly hair Howard Toronto, Ontario native Michael Mandel II was born on November 29, 1955, and reared in the city. He is descended from Romanians and Poles and is a distant cousin of Israeli violin maestro Itzhak Perlman. In high school, he was a highly contentious clown and was dismissed for some expensive antics. He immediately got work as a carpet salesman in Toronto’s Yuk Yuk’s comedy club during the day as a cut-up. His act contained some odd-sight jokes that went down well with the audience. His next trip was to the United States, where he attended the L.A. Comedy Store and decided to stay.

During his tenure as a regular at the famed Sunset Strip club, a producer for the syndicated game show Make Me Laugh (1979) saw his act and booked Howie for a series of appearances during the show’s brief run from 1979 to 1980. In 1980, she opened up for David Letterman and appeared in a CBS comedy special and several late-night performances on “The Alan Thicke Show.” In 1981, she played the lead part in the quirky but critically-panned Canadian feature comedy Gas with Susan Anspach. The original “VeeJays” from Nickelodeon’s music video series appeared in one of his videos as well.

Howie became a household name after appearing in the critically acclaimed hospital drama St. Elsewhere as a kind and amiable comedian who rapidly transitioned to TV talk shows and Vegas appearances (1982). These co-starring ventures, on the other hand, were a flop at the box office and failed to make their stars big names.

Having a particular fondness for children, he created, executive produced and sang the title song for the Emmy-nominated Bobby’s World (1990) as Bobby Generic.
