Gioia Bruno Wiki/Bio

Exposé vocal group member Gioia Bruno (born Carmen Gioia Bruno on June 11, 1963) is well-known for her work as a pop singer. Bruno was born in Bari, Italy, to an American mother and an Italian father. She was born and raised in the state of New Jersey, as were her parents. She began singing in nightclubs with bands at the age of 16 after her friend David Fields urged her to pursue music professionally. She moved to Manhattan from the Bronx after high school. She moved to Florida in 1986 after going through an audition process for a band there. Frank Diaz of Pantera Group Enterprises approached her while she was performing at Miami’s Gee Wiz nightclub and offered her a role in Expos. Bruno finally accepted the offer after over nine months of recruitment attempts and became a member of the team.

Exposé’s Gioia Bruno (whose name is pronounced Joy-ah!) made a name for herself on the music scene as a member of the group. Gioia was raised in New Jersey after moving there as a child from his native Bari, Italy. She began performing in nightclubs with bands when she was sixteen years old. she met Frank Diaz of Pantera Group Enterprises in Miami, where she was performing and he offered her a role in Exposé. Jeanette Jurado and Ann Curless had already accepted Gioia’s offer to join them, so she accepted it as well.

Each album Exposé released went platinum (Exposure, What You Don’t Know, Let Me Be The One, What You Don’t Know, Tell Me Why, and Seasons Change) as well as numerous “top-ten” hit singles on the Billboard charts. The Grammy Awards (as a presenter), “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” (as a performer), and other national television shows such as “Letterman,” “Solid Gold,” and “Arsenio Hall” have all featured Gioia. He has also appeared on MTV and VH1 specials. For a time, Gioia worked as a guest VJ on the MTV network.

Gioia, the group’s lead vocalist, had a promising solo career ahead of her after the success of Exposé. That is until Gioia’s time with Exposé came to an end suddenly. Her singing career was put on hold after a benign throat tumor was found on her vocal cords. The worst-case scenario for a diva would be to be unable to sing. A surgical procedure was considered but ultimately ruled out due to the risk of permanent damage to her vocal cords being sustained during the procedure. Unfortunately, Gioia was forced to part ways with the rest of the crew. Fans didn’t learn of her departure from Exposé until mid-1992, just in time for the release of the band’s final album. Fans and members of the music industry alike were taken aback.

The unwavering faith that Gioia had helped her get through those difficult times. A cancer survivor, Gioia longed to sing once more because it was her passion. She had been without her God-given instrument for five long years. After a number of healthy years and a great deal of prayer, the tumor disappeared, and Gioia was able to resume her musical career.

Gioia was a member of the band WET before going solo and releasing “Free To Be,” which was an instant hit and became an anthem for the LGBTQ community as a result. A rising star in the dance music industry, she now performs at gay pride parades and circuit parties all over the world. From The Inside, Gioia’s number-one dance club hit on the Billboard Hot 100, was a huge hit. In the third season of Queer As Folk, Junior Vazquez produced a track that was featured on the soundtrack and the television show. Gioia’s first full-length solo album, “Expose This,” was released in 2004 on KOCH Records to acclaim. Be Mine, a Billboard dance chart-topper, and I Was Made For Loving You, a club classic, are among the tracks on the CD. Chris Cox’s production of Gioia’s song Wreckin’ My Nerves appeared on the White Party USA Vol. 2 CD and was charted as one of the top ten dance club hits of 2004 by some of the most influential DJs.

When Gioia and Luis Martinez released Why Did You Call Me Again on Mix2Inside Records in 2006, it became an instant hit around the world. After a 15-year hiatus, she reformed Exposé with members Curless and Jurado in September 2006 and temporarily halted her solo tour. She resumed solo work in the fall of 2007 while still touring with Exposé. Released by Harlequin Records in 1968, a remake of Jackie Wilson’s 1967 hit Higher and Higher was marketed to nightclubs and went to the top of several singles charts.

Currently, Gioia is working on a new studio album, as well as touring extensively with Exposé and finishing up a Christmas album. As recently as May of 2016, Exposé announced that they would be re-releasing “Let Me Be The One,” which featured lead vocals from the multi-platinum recording group Gioia, with all new re-recorded vocals.

Gioia Bruno is this time’s awesomeness. Most people know her from her time in the band Expose. It was the first all-girl group to have four singles from a debut album reach the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 (along with Ann Curless and Jeanette Jurado) in the late ’80s. “Point of No Return,” “Come to Go With Me,” “Let Me Be the One,” and “Seasons Change” are just a few of the band’s top hits. They really set the bar high for future all-girl bands. For health reasons, Bruno was forced to depart from Expose’ in 1991; however, he is now able to reunite with them. Here are some highlights from my interview with Gioia Bruno, including information about Gioia, her band, and some of their biggest hits, as well as her motivational story.

Career

The lead vocals on the band’s other singles, such as Let Me Be The One and What You Don’t Know, also feature Bruno. Except for a brief period when Julie Albers stepped in for her while she was on maternity leave, she toured with the band from 1986 to 1990.

She had to put her singing career on hold after being diagnosed with a benign throat tumor in 1990. Bruno contemplated removing her vocal cords but ultimately decided against it due to the possibility of long-term damage. The “What You Don’t Know” tour ended abruptly for Exposé in August of 1990, just in time for her appearance at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Fans of the Expos didn’t learn of her departure until midway through the band’s second album, which was released in early 1992. After she stepped down, Kelly Moneymaker was brought in to fill in for her.

Bruno is a co-owner of the West Broward Performing Arts Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was unable to sing for a period of time and had to curtail her social activities as a result. After a 4-5-year healing, vocal training, and development process, he was able to regain his voice and resume his singing career. When Exposé reformed in 2006, she rejoined after a 15-year absence. A member of the Arista Information pop group Exposé, singer-songwriter Gioia Bruno (whose name is pronounced Joy-ah!) made her mark in the music industry.

Gioia was born in Bari, Italy, and flourished in New York City’s Upper East Side. Her career as a nightclub performer with rings began when she was sixteen years old. Frank Diaz of Pantera Group Companies contacted her while she was performing at Miami’s Gee Wiz nightclub and offered her a position in Exposé. Jeanette Jurado and Ann Curless also joined the group after Gioia gave her blessing to the gift. Once they had all the albums out, Exposé began releasing singles like “Come to OPT FOR Me personally,” “Stage Of No Comeback,” “I WANT TO BE THE MAIN ONE,” “EVERYTHING YOU HAVE NO IDEA,” and Billboard’s #1 single, “Months Switch.” Exposé also released a number of singles that charted in the Billboard “top-ten” range.

There were also numerous appearances by Gioia on nationally syndicated tv shows like “David Letterman,” “Solid Platinum,” “Arsenio Hall,” and the “Grammy Awards” (where he was the host and presenter). Gioia also worked as a guest VJ on the MTV network for a time. Due to Exposé’s success, Gioia, the group’s lead singer, clearly had a promising solo career ahead of her. That is until Gioia’s story came to an abrupt end thanks to Exposé. Her singing career was put on hold after a benign neck tumor was discovered near her vocal cords. The worst headache a diva could have – she was having trouble singing. Surgery was considered but rejected because it could permanently damage her vocal cords. In the end, Gioia had no choice but to keep the crew together.

She left Exposé in 1991, but fans didn’t find out until mid-1992, just in time for the last album’s release. Almost everyone in the music industry and among music fans was taken aback. It was Gioia’s unwavering faith in her that brought her to that point in time in her life. Gioia is unquestionably a survivor and longed to sing once more because music is unquestionably her passion. She had been without her God-given instrument for five years at this point. It took many years of healthy living and lots of prayer for Gioia’s tumor to disappear, and she was able to resume her musical career once more.

The song “ABSOLVE TO End up being,” which Gioia released after joining the band WET, became a hit and an anthem for the LGBTQ community. The dance membership scene has embraced her as one of its hottest acts, and she has headlined events for gay pride, circuit parties, and nightclubs all over the world. From THE WITHIN, Gioia’s Billboard Top Tendance single was a huge success. The Junior Vazquez-penned song was featured on the soundtrack and in the third season of Queer As Folk.

Gioia’s debut full-length single, “Expose This,” was released in 2004 on KOCH Information to rapturous reviews. the Billboard dance chart hit End up being Mine and the fan-favorite I USED TO BE Made For Adoring You are both featured on the CD. Chris Cox’s composition Wreckin’ My Nerves, featuring Gioia, was featured on the Light Party USA Vol. 2 CD and was ranked among the top dance club hits of 2004 by several major DJs. Co-written by Gioia and Luis Martinez for Mix2Inside Information, Why Did You Call Me Again quickly became a global club hit.

After a 15-year hiatus, she reunited with Exposé with old bandmates Curless and Jurado in September 2006 for a brief solo tour. In November 2007, she resumed her solo tour while still performing with Exposé. Harlequin Information premiered a remake of Jackie Wilson’s 1967 hit Higher and Higher, which was advertised to nightclubs and charted on numerous charts. Gioia has finished a holiday album and is hard at work on a new studio album while also touring with Exposé on a regular basis. By the end of 2016, Exposé announced that they were re-releasing “I WANT TO BE THE MAIN ONE” with new vocals that featured Gioia on business lead vocals, crossing the multi-platinum saving group onto R&B graphs.
