Gangapuram Kishan Reddy (born 15 May 1964) is an Indian politician who currently serves as the Government of India’s Cabinet Minister for Tourism, Culture, and North Eastern Development. In 2009, he served as the BJP’s floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, but resigned after being elected state BJP president of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy was born to G. Swamy Reddy and Andalamma in Timmapur village in the Rangareddy district of Telangana. He earned a certificate in tool design from CITD.
In the late twentieth century, Reddy began his career as a youth leader. From 2002 to 2005, he served as National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He was first elected to the Amberpet assembly constituency in 2004 from the Himayatnagar constituency and was re-elected with a majority of over 27,000 votes in 2009 and 2014.
He was unanimously elected to succeed Bandaru Dattatreya as Telangana BJP president.On 30 May 2019, he was sworn in as the Government of India’s Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs.Given the increased demand for local public transportation, he wrote a letter to Telangana’s chief minister, K. Chandrashekar Rao, pleading with him to reinstate MMTS service in the city.
Gangapuram Kishan Reddy, who was promoted to cabinet rank on Wednesday, remained the only Telugu state representative in the Narendra Modi government.
Kishan Reddy, one of the BJP’s most visible faces in Telangana, is a first-term Member of Parliament from Secunderabad, one of Hyderabad’s Lok Sabha constituencies.
Kishan Reddy is one of the BJP’s four Telangana legislators. Some party leaders hoped that Soyam Bapu Rao, who represents Adilabad, would be inducted, but no other Telangana representative was included in the expansion.
Andhra Pradesh retained its status as the sole southern state without representation. The party has no Members of Parliament from Andhra Pradesh.
Kishan Reddy, who was also a three-term MLA, has been a BJP supporter since the party’s inception. He began his political career as an ordinary party worker and rose through the ranks of the organisation through sheer determination and hard work.
Popularly referred to as ‘Krishananna’ by his supporters, the 60-year-serene old’s demeanour belies his inner strength. He previously served as the BJP’s floor leader in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh legislatures.
He was born in 1960 to a middle-class farmer family in Ranga Reddy district. He received a diploma in tool design from Hyderabad’s Central Institute of Tool Designs.
As a student who drew inspiration from Lokmanya Jayaprakash Narayan, he demonstrated early leadership instincts.
He became a member of the BJP as a youth worker. In 2002, the party rewarded him for his unwavering commitment by electing him national President of the party’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
He also served two terms as President of the BJP’s state unit in undivided Andhra Pradesh, from 2010 to 2014. Following Andhra Pradesh’s 2014 bifurcation, he was elected President of the party’s Telangana unit and served in that capacity until 2016.
Career
He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the first time in 2004 from Hyderabad’s Himayatnagar constituency. Following the delimitation of constituencies in 2009, he ran from Amberpet and won two terms as MLA.
He also served as the party’s floor leader in both state legislatures. He lost the Amberpet Assembly constituency in the 2018 elections but was chosen as the party’s candidate for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat.
As Amberpet is one of Secunderabad’s Assembly segments, Kishan Reddy was not unfamiliar with the constituency, and with strong support from the urban electorate, he was elected to the Lok Sabha.
Kishan Reddy is married to Kavya, a homemaker who has been a staunch supporter of his political career. Vaishnavi, his daughter, and Tanmai, his son, are both pursuing higher education.

Kishan Reddy stated that he will now pursue a dual strategy. He stated that he would strengthen Prime Minister Modi’s hand in order to contribute to his dream of creating a new India.
“I will actively contribute to Telangana’s development in such a way that the aspirations, vision, and dreams of our martyrs are realised,” Reddy said as he expressed gratitude to his constituents.
