Feist Phone Wiki/Bio

When Leslie turned fifteen, her creative ambitions turned sharply when she joined a Calgarian punk band called Placebo (not linked to the neo-glam band that was later founded in the UK) in 1991. Placebo won a Battle of the Bands in 1993 that won them a spot at a rock festival that opened for the Ramones and in 1995 the group published an EP, don’t drink the bathwater. Feist, however, was an inexperienced vocalist who found it difficult to keep up with the group’s powerful stage volume and she left Placebo in 1996 when she started to experience vocal damage.

Feist went to Toronto to Calgary and a doctor was advised not to sing for six months. Feist used her time off singing as a way of working on her instrumental talents when she settled down in her new home town; she teaches guitar and starts writing songs using a four-stroke recording setup, picks the bass and plays a spell in Noah’s Arkweld band. In 1998, she became an indie rock outfit guitarist, “By Divine Right,” and she appeared on her album Bless This Mess in 1999. During her time with By Divine Right, Feist began to piece together her first album Monarch, which she wrote (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head). Most of the disc copies were sold at shows at the merchant table and there was little notice at the time.

Career

Feist shared with an independent musician, Merrill Nisker, after leaving By Divine Right. When Nisker started to shape his lascivic stage character, Peaches, Feist took part, performing with sock marionettes on stage, giving support vocals and chanting on Peaches’ first album The Teaches of Peaches. (She would contribute vocals to Peaches’ Impeach My Bush 2006 album as well.) After touring the UK with Peaches, Feist returned to Toronto in 2001 and was invited by founder Kevin Drew to join the indie rock band and the musicians’ Broken Sozial Scene collective. She has made her 2002 album You Forgot It in People after touring with Broken Social Scene and won raw reviews, as well as the Juno Award for the Alternative Album of the Year. Later in 2002

Feist left Toronto for Paris, France, and began to collaborate on her second solo endeavour with producers and tools, Chilly Gonzales (who she met while working with Peaches), and Renaud Letang (the best known for his work with Manu Chao). Let It Die, published in 2004, is a strikingly successful combination of pop, folk and indie influences, electronic and Latin, providing an impressive display for Feist’s cool yet powerful vocal stylings. The album won enthusiastic reviews and impressive indie sales while the track “Mushaboom” was a successful single, Let It Die was awarded the Juno Award for Best Alternative Rock and Feist won the Best New Artist trophy for Best.

In 2006, when Feist was working on her third album, she released an Open Season collection with remixes, collaborative recordings and other odds and ends. While Let It Die made Feist a major success storey in Industry, 2007’s The Reminder made Feist a true pop star; it entered Canadian album charts number 2 and made its debut in the United States at number 16. The album was good for sale when Apple used “1234” on a TV spot for iPod Nano; the publicity appeared to have sold the song as much as the audio player and pushed “1234” into the top ten single charts on the strength of paid downloads on their own. The record was awarded to Feist in the USA and sold over one million copies worldwide, as well as the other five Juno Prizes. “My Moon, My Man” and “I Feel It All” also fared in singles.
