Eve Wiki/Bio

Eve emerged in the late 1990s as one of a new race of tough and talented MCs who hit the rap scene with contemporaries Foxy Brown and Lil Kim. As a part of Ruff Ryders, she was hard-cut and turned out to be a strong, unreasonable MC street, able to hold on with anyone on the mic and succeed on its own. As a solo performer, she released her 1999 debut Let There Be Eve… The First Lady of Ruff Ryders, which topped the 200 Billboard. Scorpio’s sophomore effort in 2001 peaked in fourth and was certified Platinum with the hit individuals ‘Who’s That Girl’ and ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ on the international stage that lasted as age-defining classics.

In 2002, Gwen Stefani was awarded a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The same year, her third album Eve-Olution and its individuals occupied the upper reaches of the charts and in 2005, the pair received another hit in reciprocal collaboration with Stefani “Rich Girl.” A fourth LP would not appear for a decade, however, as Eve was engulfed in label problems and steady reverses. In 2013, she decided to do it by herself and released Lip Lock.

Born in Philadelphia on 10 November 1978 in Eve Jihan Jeffers, She started as a singer in her early teens with an all-female vocal quintet. In improvised battles with friends, she has also improved her skills as a rapper and, before leaving high school, she has formed a female rap duo named EDGP (pronounced ‘Egypt’), named Gangsta. EDGP performed in local talent shows and club gigs, often at the expense of Eve’s commitment to school. When the group broke up, she took off by herself, changing her name to Eve of Destruction; she moved also to the Bronx after the remarriage of her mother, and worked as a table dancer for a time in a strip club. Unhappy with this direction, after being encouraged by Mase, she decided to take another shot at rap.

Career

Eve scored a meeting with Dr. Dre in Los Angeles with some of her friends and surprised him by turning it into an audition. Dre liked what he heard and signed her on his new label Aftermath for one year. Eve has recorded several tracks, one of them “Eve of Destruction,” which ended in Bulworth in 1998. But Aftermath was at the time looking for a direction, and Eve wound up lost in the shuffle.

Her contract ended without an album at work, and fortunately she met DMX when his smash debut, It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot, was promoted by the new star in Los Angeles. Eve had a fighting audition to join Ruff Ryders in DMX and contributed to Ryde or Die, Vol. 1 compilation of their label in 1999. Due to DMX star power, it was given the number one chart and Eve’s track, ‘What Ya Want,’ was published as a single track. It struck the R&B Top Ten and Eve built an anticipation of her debut album with high-profile guest spots on Roots’ ‘You Got Me’ and the duet “Girlfriend / Boyfriend” in Black Street/Janet Jackson.

The first full-length Eve was entitled Let Be Eve… Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, published in September, 1999. With Ruff Ryders one of the biggest names of rap, the album was a smash; it entered the first chart — the first time that a female rapper had ever done that — and sold two million copies. Eve also scored hits with R&B Top Ten ‘Gotta Man’ and ‘Love Is Blind’ anti-domestic violence, guests with Missy Elliott’s hit ‘Hot Boyz.’ Eve returned to the studio after touring in support of the record and gave a follow-up to her, Scorpion, in early 2001.

Eve then began to set up her film career; she debuted in the Vin Diesel Action Blockbuster XXX, released in the Summer of 2002. Shortly thereafter, she also played a prominent part in Ice Cube comedy Barbershop. In August 2002, Eve released her third album, Eve-Olution. It debuted in the Top 10 and found Eve on a surprising number of tracks to return to her young boy’s soul singing. The single ‘Gangsta Lovin’, with Alicia Keys’ guest vocals, was number two on both the pop and R&B charts and a Grammy was named as the follow-up ‘Satisfaction.’

In early 2003, Eve signed a fashion designer with the UPN network to produce and perform a multi-racial sitcom, and she continued to play in Barbershop 2, The Cookout and The Woodsman films. In 2007 a full return to the music was attempted with Here I Am, an album with productions from Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Pharrell, but the album was shelt by Eve’s label Interscope after a few singles were served to radio. A protagonist in the film Whip It and a recurring character on the TV show Glee kept it busy until Lip Lock landed in 2013. It was released by Eve’s label From the Rib with guest shots from Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot and Juicy J.
