Emmelie de Forest Wiki/Bio

De Forest was born to a Danish mother and a Swedish father in Randers, Denmark. She moved with her mother to Mariager after her parents had divorced. There was a rumour that her father, Ingvar, was a descendent of a former UK King Edward VII’s illegal kid, making her Queen Victoria’s granddaughter. Researchers, however, believe it incorrect.

Rumored to be the U.K. queen Queen Victoria’s grand-granddaughter in the 19th century, folk-pop singer and songwriter Emmelie de Forest won the famous Eurovision Song Contest in May 2013.

De Forest born to Swedish father and Danish mother in Randers, Denmark, earned several years of singing and conducting when she joined the Steve Cameron Gospel Choir. Aged fourteen, she had met Fraser Neill – a Danish resident since the mid-1990s – at a festival in Ajstrup and the couple spent the coming five years playing tiny venues, selling approximately one hundred copies of Emmelie de Forest & Fraser Neill, a self-pressed CD.

Career

While the duo moved to Copenhagen in 2012, they stopped playing together in order to give de Forest more time to study at the Complete Vocal Institute in town. In January 2013 she participated in the Grand Prix de Dansk Melodi, a contest that finished with a Danish entry to the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden. The pipe and the drum-fueled winning song of the same name were released by Universal a week before her won and hit the 5 Top of the Danish album charts.

De Forest began singing at the age of 9, and participated in the Steve Cameron Gospel Choir alongside her mother for several years.

From the age of 14 she played with the Scottish folk performer Fraser Neill in small venues and festivals. In 2010, they recorded the “Emmelié de Forest and Fraser Neill” CD together. They ceased working together the next year and De Forest relocated to Copenhagen to study at the Complete Vocal Institute.

The song of De Forest, Only Teardrops, was among the ten songs picked for the 2013 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix to represent Denmark in Eurovision 2013. The song won the national final and gained the trip to Sweden.

Only Teardrops, her first album, was released a week before her semi-final performance. It comprises twelve tracks, two versions of the Eurovision song and a disc opening.

With 167 points she won the first half-final, so her song was one of the 10 songs qualified at the Grand Final. She was the champion in the grand finals with 281 points. The max. score was 12 in 7 nations; Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
