Elon Musk Wiki/Bio

As an American entrepreneur, Elon Musk is most known for co-founding PayPal and SpaceX, two companies that manufacture launch vehicles and spacecraft. In addition, he served as the company’s CEO and a major early investment in Tesla, the electric vehicle maker.

A South African father and a Canadian mother gave birth to Elon Musk. At a young age, he showed promise in the fields of computers and entrepreneurship. He sold a video game to a computer magazine when he was just 12 years old. Musk left South Africa in 1988 after getting a Canadian passport because he did not want to support apartheid by serving in the military and because he wanted to take advantage of the better economic prospects in the United States.

At Queen’s University, Musk studied physics before transferring in 1992 to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in physics and economics. Graduate school at Stanford University in California offered him the opportunity to study physics for the next two years, but after only two days, he decided to go to the Internet. To give maps and business directories to online newspapers, he started Zip2, a company he launched in 1995.

To make use of the $307 million that Compaq paid for Zip2 in 1999, Musk launched his own online financial services firm, X.com, which subsequently evolved into PayPal and specialized in electronic money transfers. In 2002, eBay paid $1.5 billion to acquire PayPal.

Musk has long believed that mankind must evolve into a multiplanet species in order to survive. The high cost of the rocket launchers, on the other hand, did not sit well with him. For this purpose, he formed Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) back in 2002. Its first two rockets, the smaller Falcon 1 in 2006 and the larger Falcon 9 in 2010, were both supposed to be far less expensive than their competition.

With a payload of 117,000 pounds (53,000 kilograms), the Falcon Heavy rocket (the first of which was launched in 2018) can deliver three times as much payload into orbit as the Boeing Company’s Delta IV Heavy rocket for a third of the price. The Super Heavy–Starship system has been announced by SpaceX as the successor to the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.

The first stage of the Super Heavy would be able to carry 100,000 kg (220,000 pounds) into low Earth orbit. The Starship, a spacecraft designed for rapid transport between cities on Earth and for the establishment of outposts on the Moon and Mars, would serve as the mission’s primary payload. It was SpaceX that designed and built the Dragon supply ship for use at the International Space Station (ISS).

There was a crewed voyage in 2020 that took astronauts Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken to the International Space Station. Musk hoped to lower the cost of space travel by creating a rocket that could take off and land back on the launch pad from where it was launched. To test this technology, SpaceX launched its Grasshopper rocket in 2012. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also served as the primary designer of Falcon rockets, Dragon and Grasshopper.

For years, Tesla Motors (later renamed Tesla), an electric car firm created by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, has been a subject of fascination for Elon Musk. In 2004, he became one of the company’s key investors. A car that could go 245 miles (394 kilometers) on a single charge was unveiled by Tesla in 2006, the Roadster.

While most previous electric cars, even those designed by Musk, were viewed as stodgy and boring, the Model 3 was a sporty machine capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds. About $226 million was raised through the company’s first public offering in 2010.

It wasn’t until two years later that Tesla unveiled the Model S vehicle, which was hailed by critics for its powertrain and exterior aesthetic. When the Model X high-end SUV was released in 2015, it received even more positive reviews. In 2017, Tesla began building the Model 3, a lower-cost automobile.

At the end of August 2018, Musk made many tweets regarding turning Tesla private, claiming that he’d “got finance.” Musk raised concerns about Tesla being listed on the stock exchange. SEC filed a lawsuit against Musk for securities fraud the following month, claiming that the tweets were “false and deceptive.”

Tesla’s board rejected the SEC’s proposed settlement soon after, supposedly because Musk had threatened to resign. Tesla’s price fell as a result of the revelation, and a tougher bargain was eventually agreed to. Musk was required to step down as chairman for three years as part of the agreement, but he was allowed to remain CEO during that time.

Career

The Hyperloop is a pneumatic tube that would allow a pod carrying 28 passengers to travel at a top speed of 760 mph (1,220 km/h) between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 35 minutes, nearly reaching the speed of sound. Musk was dissatisfied with the projected cost ($68 billion) of a high-speed rail system in California in 2013 and proposed an alternative faster system, the Hyperloop.

For a total cost of just $6 billion, the Hyperloop would be able to accommodate the six million people who travel that route every year, according to Musk. However, he argued that he could not commit time to the development of the Hyperloop because he was already overseeing SpaceX and Tesla.

Founded in 2002, the American aerospace corporation SpaceX, in full Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, is credited for ushering in the commercial spaceflight age. After successfully launching and returning from space, it was the first private firm to successfully send an unmanned crewed spacecraft into orbit and dock it with the International Space Station (ISS). At their headquarters in Hawthorne, Calif.

In the aspirations of reshaping the aerospace sector and making space travel more accessible, Elon Musk founded SpaceX. Small satellites can be launched into orbit using the Falcon 1 rocket, which is a two-stage liquid-fueled ship. A field dominated by Lockheed Martin and Boeing spacecraft, the Falcon 1 was significantly less expensive to produce and operate than its competitors.

The SpaceX-developed Merlin engine, a cheaper alternative to those employed by other firms, helped make the rocket’s cost-effectiveness achievable. SpaceX is also working to develop rockets that can be reused (other launch vehicles are generally made for one-time use).

A fuel leak and fire forced the premature termination of SpaceX’s first Falcon 1 flight in March 2006. A large number of these orders came from the United States government, and the corporation had already made millions in profit. In August of that year, SpaceX won a NASA competition for funding to design and demonstrate spacecraft capable of servicing the ISS after the decommissioning of the space shuttle.

SpaceX became the first privately held business to fly a liquid-fueled rocket into orbit in September 2008 after two Falcon 1 missions that failed to reach Earth orbit in March 2007 and August 2008. It received a $1 billion NASA contract for ISS maintenance just three months later.

For the first time, in 2010, SpaceX successfully launched the Falcon 9, a larger vessel with nine engines, and in 2012, the corporation started construction on the Falcon Heavy, a spacecraft that could one day be used to transport men into deep space. In December of that year, SpaceX became the first commercial business to successfully launch and return a spacecraft—the Dragon capsule—to Earth. On May 25, 2012, Dragon became the first commercial spaceship to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) and successfully transfer cargo to the station. After winning NASA’s contract to design a spacecraft to replace the space shuttle, SpaceX made an announcement in August of that year.

The Falcon 9’s first stage was planned to be reusable. The first stage of a Falcon 9 rocket successfully returned to Earth in 2015. For the first time in 2016, SpaceX began deploying drone ships to land its rocket stages. 2017 saw the successful re-use of a previously returned rocket stage. A Dragon capsule was flown to the ISS in the same year. In 2018, the first flight of the Falcon Heavy rocket took place. Third stage hit the ocean near the drone ship after landing two of the three first stages. A Tesla Roadster with a mannequin in a spacesuit strapped into the driver’s seat was sent into orbit around the Sun by the Falcon Heavy.

Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken will fly onboard the first crewed trip of a Dragon spacecraft to the ISS on May 30, 2020. Besides the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy, SpaceX also revealed the Super Heavy–Starship system, which would replace both (originally called the BFR [Big Falcon Rocket]).

The first stage of the Super Heavy would be able to carry 100,000 kg (220,000 pounds) into low Earth orbit. The Starship, a spacecraft designed for a variety of missions, including speedy intercity transportation and the construction of bases on the Moon and Mars, would comprise the payload. In 2023, SpaceX planned to use the Starship to fly Japanese billionaire Maezawa Yusaku and a group of artists around the Moon, then in the mid-2020s, to send settlers to Mars.

The nondenominational, coeducational Queen’s University at Kingston, usually known as Queen’s University, is located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. To train young men for the Presbyterian ministry, it was founded in 1841 as a Presbyterian denominational school called Queen’s College. As a result, the Presbyterian church’s influence over the school gradually diminished until it was abolished by legislation in 1912.
