DJ Bobo Wiki/Bio

Peter René Baumann was born on 5 January 1968 is, better known by his stage name DJ BoBo, is a Swiss singer-songwriter, rapper, dancer, and music producer who is best recognized for his music. It is estimated that he has sold 14 million records globally and that he has published a total of 12 studio albums as well as a handful of compilation albums that have included revised versions of his past songs.

BoBo has also published a total of 34 singles too far, with some of them reaching the top of the charts not only in German-speaking nations but also in other European countries and territories. With the record “Somebody Dance with Me,” which derives its melody from the song “Someone’s Watching Me” by Rockwell, he achieved his first major breakthrough as a DJ and producer of dance music.

The singles “Keep on Dancing,” “Take Control,” “Everybody,” “Let the Dream Come True,” “Love Is All Around,” “Freedom,” “Pray,” and “What a Feeling,” as well as the song “Chihuahua,” all of which featured fast-paced Eurodance music with female vocals and rap verses performed by BoBo, reached the top of the charts.

His 27 singles chart singles in Switzerland and Germany between 1992 and 2007 earned him ten World Music Awards as Switzerland’s best-selling artist, and he has been nominated for an additional five World Music Awards. In addition to receiving multiple Gold and Platinum certifications for his releases, BoBo has achieved success in Europe (particularly Germany and Switzerland), Asia, and South America, among other places.

Peter René Baumann was born in 1968 in Kölliken, Switzerland, to Italian father Luigi Cipriano and Swiss mother Ruth Baumann. He has two brothers and a sister. For a long time, Baumann had a desire to work in the candy and bread industries. This, however, did not last long, as his urge to dance coincided with the rise of breakdancing after he graduated from high school, and his dancing career took off.

Having participated in various dance competitions, Baumann was able to make it into the Top 10 of the German dance competition “Disco Kings” with his acrobatic dance style, despite his lack of experience. After starting his DJ career in 1985, Baumann went on to finish as a runner-up in the Swiss DJ Championships the following year.

He continued to work as a DJ at other nightclubs, including Don Paco and the Hazyland, both of which are located in Switzerland. He gathered enough knowledge and experience that he eventually decided to make his own album. His first single, “I Love You,” was released in late 1989, during which time he continued to work as a DJ while concentrating on upcoming releases of his own music creation.

Dj BoBo also released two other singles during the year 1991: ‘Ladies in the House’ and ‘Let’s Groove On. When Baumann released his Europe-wide breakthrough hit “Somebody Dance with Me” in November 1992, he soared to unprecedented levels of international recognition.

It reached number 1 in Switzerland and Sweden, and reached the Top 5 in a number of other European nations, including Germany, thanks to the use of catchy refrains by Emel Aykanat as well as rap performance by himself. Because it sold more than 250,000 units in Germany, the single “Somebody Dance with Me” was awarded the Gold certification.

In addition to reaching the Top 5 in both Switzerland and Germany, his second hit single, “Keep on Dancing,” which used the same technique as his first, reached the Top 10 in several other European countries, including the United Kingdom and France. In Germany, the song achieved Gold certification with sales of 250,000 units, earning it the title of “Golden Single.”

Dance with Me, his long-awaited first album, was released in October 1993 and spent a long time at the top of the charts all over Europe. It was followed by another song, “Take Control,” which was taken from the same album as “Take Control.” Because the song charted in various countries and garnered him yet another Gold medal in Germany for sales of more than 250,000 units, it was also nominated for a Grammy.

Meanwhile, while DJ BoBo appeared to have already established himself as a distinct entity from one-hit wonders, he released his second single, “Everybody,” in the summer of 1994, which peaked at No. 2 in Germany and was certified Platinum after selling 500,000 units in that country.

When compared to the previously released songs, “Everybody” changed in terms of its structure; it veered away from the house, leaning towards a blend of house and hip hop (“hip-house”), with female vocalists performing the chorus and BoBo performing rap verses.

There Is a Party was released in the fall of 1994, and it was his second studio album overall. However, while the album peaked at No. 4 in Switzerland, where it was certified Platinum for sales of more than 50,000 units, it hit the Top 10 in Germany, where it lasted a total of 26 weeks on the chart, finally earning Gold certification for sales of more than 250,000.

The album’s lead single, “Let the Dream Come True,” reached the top of the charts in Switzerland and hit the Top 5 in Germany, where it was certified Gold for sales of more than 250,000 units in that country. However, while the follow-up second single, “Love Is All Around,” peaked into the Top 20 in several countries, including Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Sweden, and Norway, it was certified Gold in Germany, marking the band’s sixth consecutive gold record. In the summer of 1995, DJ BoBo embarked on a trip that brought him to nearly every country in Asia, which was followed by a promotional tour of the country of Australia. Later that year.

Career

In January 1996, BoBo recorded his first ballad, “Love Is the Price,” which was premiered on Thomas Gottschalk’s television show Wetten, Dass…? After a successful performance at the World Music Awards in Monaco the following year, DJ BoBo was named “World’s Best Selling Swiss Artist of the Year,” and he performed two songs in succession: “Freedom” (which became his eighth Gold record in a row in Germany) and his newly released ballad “Love Is the Price.”

The release of DJ BoBo’s album World in Motion in September 1996 demonstrated not only his continual presence in the charts but also his ability to break all of his prior records with this album. It only took a few weeks for the album to climb to the third position on the German album chart and earn the Platinum certification for selling 500,000 units.

It went from number 0 to number 1 in Switzerland, where it received a Double-Platinum certification for selling 100,000 units. After spending an incredible 67 weeks at the top of the Swiss album chart, it was recognized among the top 40 albums of all time. DJ BoBo embarked on a 20-day promotional tour of Asia shortly after the release of World in Motion, which was followed by a one-month promotional tour of South America, including Brazil, Chile, and Colombia.

During the World Music Awards ceremony in Monaco in April 1997, DJ BoBo got his third World Music Award for being the “World’s Best Selling Swiss Artist of the Year,” for which he performed his track “Respect Yourself.” After a month, in April 1998, he released his debut studio album, Magic, which managed to hold the No. 1 spot in his native nation for four consecutive weeks and earned him a Platinum award for sales of more than 50,000 units.

With sales of over 250,000 units, the album reached the top of the German album chart at No. 5 and remained there for a total of 21 weeks, earning the Swiss musician a second Gold award for his efforts. Soon after, his single “Celebrate” was published, which served as an introduction to his The Ultimate Megamix ’99 mixtape release.

Within a short period of time, DJ BoBo was recognized with yet another World Music Award, this time for being the “World’s Best Selling Swiss Artist of The Year” for the fifth consecutive year. DJ BoBo created a cover version of Kool and the Gang’s “Celebration” to commemorate his ten-year anniversary in the music industry by revitalizing the song with contemporary instruments.

The song was intended to serve as a representation of his collection album, which would similarly be titled Celebration and would include all of his prior hits.”Where is Your Love,” Melanie Thornton on “Love of My Life,” Emilia on “Everybody,” and A Touch of Class on “Together.” The album Celebration was released in April 2002 and contained all of the previous hits, all of which were re-recorded with mostly German renowned artists, such as In addition to being named Switzerland’s Best Selling Recording Artist at the World Music Awards in 2002 for the seventh time.

DJ BoBo and co-producer Axel Breitung were named the “Best Producers of 2001” at the Echo Awards in 2002 for being the most outstanding musical partnership in the country. Pirates of Dance, BoBo’s next studio album, was released in February 2005 and featured two tracks, “Pirates of Dance” and “Amazing Life,” which were both released as singles.

The album debuted at the top of the charts in Switzerland. The Pirates of Dance Tour was launched by BoBo and his crew in April 2005. They began their journey in Switzerland, then traveled to Germany and Poland, before concluding their journey with two concerts in Disneyland and Paris. DJ BoBo was named Switzerland’s Best Selling Recording Artist of the Year for the tenth time in 2005, marking his tenth year in the position.

A best-of album, BoBo released his greatest hits collection in 2006, which included reworked versions of some of his prior tracks, as well as some that remained in their original form. Its lead song, “Secrets of Love,” was a pop-dance duet with 1980s pop diva Sandra, and was released before the album’s release.

The music video for the song was filmed in the Disney Resort Paris. BoBo’s best hits compilation eventually won him a Gold certification in the country of his birth. During a press conference held on October 11, 2006, DJ BoBo announced that he had submitted an application to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007.

Dancing Las Vegas, a news release from BoBo, was released on November 25th, 2011, and is available now. The album comprises 13 tracks and is packaged with a DVD that is divided into six parts, one of which has a video clip for the previously released single “It’s going to be a dance party.” The album is currently available for purchase.

On 10 January 2014, BoBo released a new studio album titled Circus, which was followed by Mystorial in 2016 and KaleidoLuna in 2018. BoBo is currently on tour in support of Circus. Circus and Mysterial, like BoBo’s previous studio albums, debuted in the Top 5 of the Swiss album charts, while KaleidoLuna debuted at No. 9 on the country’s album chart.
