Dierks Bentley Wiki/Bio
Dierks Since the release of the 2003 album named “What I Thinkin’,” Bentley’s rock-flavored country music has been a staple on the airwaves. Bentley has since been a staple on the road and opened both for George Street and Kenny Chesney before going on his own tour. Bentley played 318 dates in 2005, often on the same day at two venues. Bentley has focused on putting face time before the audience and making fans the old way. He wants to be a legendary artist and not just a musician. Speaking of Peter Cooper, a Tennessean, Bentley phrased it like way: “I compose these songs, and that night I spend the whole day rehearsing for the show. Every night, I modify the set list. All I think about when I’m on the road is the show. My objective I’m honest: I want to be one of the top live performances in all kinds of music. That ambition, I’m not humiliated.”
Bentley was born into a non musical family in Phoenix, Arizona, on 20 November 1975, where he spent much of his childhood. His father, Leon and his mom, Cathy, were working as a stock broker and banker to look after Bentley and his siblings. His first name, Dierks, is a surname of his family—the name of his mother’s grandmother. Dierks Bentley grew up mistaken or mispronounced in his name and even now, when he appears at a place, he inspects the marquee so that it is written correctly.
A friend introduced Bentley to the electric guitar when he was 13. Like most guitar-crazed youths of the 1980s, Bentley spent some free time trying to replicate Van Halen and Billy Idol in this instrument. During a jam session, the police contacted him and his companions for a noise complaint. Bentley was hooked on guitar as a young person, but not necessarily a genre. “Rock music didn’t sound very much,” Bentley stated in his biography on his website. “It was nearly there, but there wasn’t. Like David Lee Roth, I couldn’t sing. Three years I wasted listening to a lot of awful hair bands of the 80s.”
At the age of 17, Bentley was passed over by a friend to Hank Williams Jr., insisting he would listen to Williams song ‘Man to Man,’ which depicts a talk between a son and his dead father. “My entire viewpoint altered at that time,” Bentley remarked on his website. “All simply clicked. I knew that I absolutely loved country music.” Bentley shifted allegiances immediately, from rock to country. Rather than concentrated on lead guitar and its piercing melodies, he began to learn rhythm, which gives the pulse – or beat – of the song. Bentley also mastered lyric writing mechanics by copying hits from others and adding his own lines to the music.
During Bentley’s teenage years Bentley’s father accepted a job on the East Coast and he completed high-schools in New Jersey in 1993, then graduated from the University of Vermont. But he was tugged by the music and Nashville, and one day Bentley contacted his mother to tell her that he went south. Bentley relocated to Nashville in 1994 and studied English at Vanderbilt University, which is the closest songwriting he could find.
Bentley spent the following few years immersing himself in the music culture of the country capital. Bentley worked hard to learn the ropes, but not very quickly to get to the top. He got a phoney ID and started hanging out at the renowned Station Inn bluegrass bar in Nashville. Night after night, Bentley sat there absorbing the music and the performers who trickled through the doorway. Bentley played when he wasn’t watching.
He performed in open micro evenings and showcases – frequently for free, and sometimes for beer or tips. Some time later, Bentley went to dive bars and pubs and went up to the local honky tones. Bentley had to know his stuff with lots of competition from other young country musicians. He often played at the famous Bluebird Café at Music Row. “I’d go down and play a 4-hour shift in front of the tip jar to play everything you had to play to make money,” said Mike Kalil of the Las Vegas reviews journal. “Four hours straight. Straight. You have a lot of music to know. It’s good to start there, you have to study country music, since you have to be able to make requests.”
The other country music training for Bentley took the shape of a job at the now-defunct Nashville Network. Bentley’s job as a cable TV researcher was to screen old country video. The work enabled Bentley to witness historical performances between the 1940s and the 1980s. “I got an opportunity to watch a lot of fantastic material,” Mark Jordan said regarding the commercial appeal. “A lot of guys I’d never have seen live…. It’s incredibly good if you just attempt to absorb as many information as possible and get it into your bloodstream to watch them function.”
By 2000, Bentley was willing to cut his CD and painted a studio-group of Jamie Hartford and Del McCoury performers. The record was financed via a debt against the car of its producer. Several large labels were noticed in the CD, and Bentley secured a recording deal with Capitol Records by 2002.
