Communion has been a huge supporter of Croll’s career, both with this release and in sponsoring many of his early live shows. Croll secured a recording contract with Turn First Records at the beginning of 2012. Turn First / Racquet Records (Croll’s own imprint) released his debut single, “From Nowhere,” on September 24, 2012, as a digital download and limited 7-inch vinyl record in the United States and Canada.
It lasted three days at the top of the Hype Machine popular charts, and it was playlisted on BBC 6 Music, XFM, and Amazing Radio in the United Kingdom, as well as receiving a few spot plays on BBC Radio 1. Moreover, the song garnered exposure in the United States, where it peaked at #36 on the Billboard Alternative list. It was described as “Paul Simon jamming with Prince” when Croll was chosen the Guardian’s New Band of the Day in November 2012.
“It’s really lovely.” Croll’s second song, “Compliment Your Soul,” was released in March of this year. The publication of “In/Out” in July 2013 was the next step in the series’ development. The music video for “Home” was premiered on Croll’s personal VEVO YouTube channel on October 13, 2013. On October 29, 2013, during an on-air interview with Virgin Radio, Croll stated that he has completed the recording of his full-length debut studio album. The album was planned to be released in the first quarter of 2014.
His song “Compliment Your Soul” was featured on the FIFA 14 video game’s soundtrack, which you can listen to here. Additionally, a remix of “From Nowhere,” named “From Nowhere (Baardsen Remix),” was included on the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto V, in addition to the FIFA game. Radio Mirror Park, one of the game’s radio stations, played the song, and it was also used in the game’s promotional trailer, which announced the game’s upcoming release on PC, as well as the next-generation Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms.
During a gig in Camden Town, London, in November 2013, he revealed that his debut album, Sweet Disarray, would be released on March 10, 2014. Croll released a limited edition 10″ orange vinyl on April 19, 2014, in celebration of Record Store Day. The vinyl included two previously unreleased songs. A song called “Hello My Baby” (with Ladysmith Black Mambazo) opened the album’s first side, which was followed by the song “Ever at Your Side.”
Croll traveled to Durban to work with the group on the song “Hello My Baby.” On the same day, the limited vinyl edition was made available at independent record retailers. The track “One of Us” was released by Croll in September of 2015. Croll revealed in June 2016 that he has struck a publishing deal with Communion Music. The label published the electro-pop song “Swim” on August 25, 2016, and it is available on Spotify.
The music video for “Swim” was released on August 31, 2016, and it is available on YouTube. The release of Croll’s second studio album, Emerging Adulthood, took place on July 21, 2017. Ben H. Allen was in charge of the album’s production. Croll moved from Liverpool to Los Angeles in the summer of 2018. Working with producer Matthew E. White at his Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia, in 2019/2020 was a new experience for him.
Several new songs were released in the first quarter of 2020, and a third album, titled Grand Plan, was unveiled on April 15, 2020, via social media. It was made available on the 21st of August, 2020. In 2021, he released a live version of the album, which was recorded at the Spacebomb venue in Los Angeles. Later that year, Croll released the four-song EP On Top, which was a critical and commercial success.
White, and it will be released in July 2021 through Communion. It released its first song, “From Nowhere,” in the fall of 2012, and a second single, “Compliment Your Soul,” in the spring of 2013, both of which were produced by the label. Sweet Disarray, his debut studio album, was released by Decca Records in March 2014. In the United Kingdom, it was a Top 30 album, and in the United States, it debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
Emerging Adulthood, his second full-length album, was released by independent label Communion Music in the summer of 2017. It was produced by Ben H. Allen (Matt and Kim, Washed Out), and it was written by him. Croll left Liverpool in February 2018 in search of a more creative environment, and he eventually settled in Los Angeles. During his time there, he spent the next year penning songs, which he eventually recorded with Matthew E. White at Virginia’s Spacebomb Studios in 2007.
The EP, which featured some of the tracks, including “So Dark” and “Honeymoon,” was released in May 2020, paving the way for his full-length album, Grand Plan, to be released in August of that year For good and negative reasons, the experience has stayed with him, and it serves as the inspiration for the opening tune on his new album, the familiarly titled Yesterday, which is an ode to possibilities squandered while participating in a mentoring session with The Beatles legend.
The musician, who is originally from Liverpool and now resides in Los Angeles, approached the release of his debut album, Grand Plan, in an unconventional manner, releasing singles in pairs in advance of the full physical release to make the majority of the tracks available before the full physical release. Following a leap of faith and purchasing a one-way ticket to go 5,000 miles across the world, Croll’s first year in La La Land is chronicled in the album, which has 12 tracks, one for each month of the year.
According to Croll, who spoke to Sky News on a Zoom call from Los Angeles, “my experience with Paul McCartney was fantastic, but it’s something that has always lingered in my consciousness.” Dan Croll returns once more to share the next captivating track from his highly anticipated new EP ‘On Top’, which will be released on July 23rd and follows up last year’s stunning studio album ‘Grand Plan’.
The track is titled ‘Big One’ and it is the second track from the EP. Following the release of the EP’s title track, ‘Big One’ hopes to continue the fresh and vivid route that this new release is moving in with its upbeat and energetic sound. This new album, which continues the theme of new beginnings that went through his previous full-length, is a bright and uplifting contrast to the chaos that surrounds his stay in Los Angeles during the pandemic.
“At the end of 2019, I’d moved into a new flat, and as the year progressed, the cracks started to show, very literally,” Dan explained about the new single. ” As a result of the claustrophobia of 2020, the loud above neighbors, and a couple of minor earthquakes, I’d grown to dread the flat and the nights of restless sleep it had provided.
Anyone is welcome to join, and prizes will be awarded at random for simply being a part of the community and being physically active, whether by jogging, cycling, swimming, or any other activity of your choosing. Dan understands the importance of good mental health after spending the previous year in solitude in a foreign country. He is looking forward to digitally jogging with his supporters in the near future.
“Exercise has always been very important to me, and it serves me in more ways than just breaking a sweat,” he continued in response to questions about the project. It has compelled me to leave the house or work setting, aided me in socializing, helped me find clarity at difficult moments, and allowed me to discover new music.
Nevertheless, the problem was that the night before, I had a terrible night in London, where I was performing at a concert. I missed the final train back home and had to take the night bus from London to Liverpool to make it back on schedule. I suppose I arrived back at the hotel about 7 a.m., feeling dreadful, worried, and dirty… and I had an appointment with Paul McCartney at around 8 a.m.
The world has only recently begun to open up again, and I’ve realized just how much of a toll it’s had on my physical and mental health over the past year, and my confidence and motivation to get back out there is at an all-time low. As a result, I came up with the concept of starting a running club utilizing the Strava program. A place where we can encourage one another, track our progress, and share new music in the hopes of returning to a healthier state.
“Run, jog, or walk; there is no time limit or restriction on how far or how quickly you travel. The more of us that work together, the more we can achieve! Every month, we’ll also be holding raffles and giving away prizes, so download the app, join the club, and get moving!” Dan continues the narrative of his experience since migrating to the United States with the release of the ‘On Top’ EP, which is similar to his concept for ‘Grand Plan.’
In many ways, it serves as a sort of conclusion to the record, picking up where the full-length left off, tracking his stay in a foreign and unfamiliar nation during a year that will go down in history as one of the most disorganized. From the ramifications of the pandemic on the ‘Grand Plan’ campaign and the inability to tour to having to readjust and cope with the realities as opposed to expectations, to dealing with obnoxious neighbors and genuine earthquakes, everything was a learning experience.
Dan looks at life in the United States from the perspective of the United Kingdom during a tumultuous year that included the rise and fall of Donald Trump, the Black Lives Matter marches, and much more. With Matthew E. White and the same team that worked on his most recent record, he recorded the four-track EP at Spacebomb in Richmond, Virginia at the end of 2020, resulting in a condensed direction that precisely represents his state of mind at the moment. Dan shared his thoughts on the new collection, saying, “Releasing an album during a pandemic was an odd enough experience, but attempting to write an EP was a whole different one..
