Damian Lillard Wiki/Bio
Damian Lillard was born in Oakland, California, to Gina and Houston Lillard on July 15, 1990. He has a brother named Houston and a sister named LaNae. Houston is a quarterback in the Indoor Football League. Although his brother was more interested in football, Lillard was more interested in skating and basketball when he was younger. He spent the majority of his time at the local rink or on the basketball court.
He graduated from ‘St. Joseph Notre Dame High School’ in Alameda, California, the same school that produced eminent ‘NBA’ player Jason Kidd. However, during his final two years of high school, Lillard transferred to ‘Oakland High School’ in order to get more playing time. Orlando Watkins coached him there, and he changed his game even further. He was a member of Oakland’s premier ‘Amateur Athletic Union’ basketball team, the ‘Oakland Rebels,’ and scored 22.4 points per game. He developed his basketball skills with the ‘Oakland Rebels,’ which included dagger step-back jump shots and reverse backspin layups.
He was rated a two-star prospect by ‘Rivals.com’ for college recruitment based on sports at the end of high school. Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, gave him the scholarship to play football. In 2015, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in technical sales from the university.
In college, his game changed, and he led the Weber State Wildcats to a regular-season conference championship. His efforts won him the ‘Big Sky Player of the Year’ award as well as an Associated Press mention, which is a significant honour. He was the fifth-highest scorer in ‘Big Sky’ history by the time he graduated from college. He had a strong year of basketball despite a foot injury that forced him to take a “redshirt” for a while. He soon received his second “Big Sky Player of the Year Award” (2010–2011). He became the second-leading scorer in ‘Weber State’ history and chose to forego his senior year in order to enter the 2012 ‘NBA’ draught.
In 2012, he made his professional debut with the ‘Portland Trail Blazers.’ He became the third player in NBA history to score 20 points and ten assists in his debut game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award after averaging 19 points per game in 82 games this season, including a season-high seven 3-pointers against the ‘Golden State Warriors.’ At the ‘NBA All-Star’ weekend, he also won the ‘Taco Bell Skills Challenge.’
Against the ‘Sacramento Kings,’ he scored a career-high 41 points, including 26 points in the fourth quarter, which set a new record for the most points scored by any player in a single quarter. By the end of the season, he was named to the ‘All NBA Third Team,’ which is a remarkable achievement in just two seasons.
Despite a low average score in his third season, he set a record for the most three-pointers made by any player in his first three seasons. In a game against the ‘San Antonio Spurs,’ he also set a new career high with 43 points. In the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, he took the place of an injured Blake Griffin, establishing himself as a celebrity player.
He signed a five-year, US$ 120 million deal with the ‘Trail Blazers’ in 2015. In 247 games, he became the fastest player in ‘NBA’ history to score 600 three-pointers. In 248 games, he became the quickest ‘Trail Blazer’ to cross 15,000 assists and 5000 points. Due to an injury to his left foot, Lillard was forced to take a break after 275 straight games. After missing six games, he returned to the court and scored his 2,000th ‘NBA’ field goal against the ‘Washington Wizards.’ He then set another career-high with 51 points against the ‘Golden State Warriors,’ setting a new ‘NBA’ record in the process.
He became the first player in NBA history to score at least 27 points in each of his team’s first five games of the 2016–2017 season. His 163 points in the first five games are the most ever scored by a ‘Trail Blazer’ in the first five games of a season.
He missed the first five games of the season due to an injured ankle, but he returned to become the team’s 11th player to score 8000 points in his career, joining Michael Jordan and LeBron James on the list. In April 2017, he was named the Western Conference Player of the Month after scoring 49 points on nine three-pointers.
Despite sustaining a hamstring injury and injuring his right calf in January 2018, Lillard is undeterred in his quest to set new records this season. He was the first ‘Blazer’ to score 9000 points, and he went on to become the franchise’s first player to score 10,000 points.
