It seemed like people were asking her almost weekly if she and her husband of seven years had any plans to start a family, but the 34-year-old said she was at a loss for what to do. Her response to the inquiry was, “Some individuals appear to instantly know the answer to this question, but I did not.” When it comes to a life sentence, “if you’re not sure you want it, it may be a whole life sentence.”

It is during this time that she meets a 45-year-old woman who has gone through five miscarriages and has been unsuccessful in her attempts to become pregnant, a lesbian couple who became pregnant using donor sperm, a woman who has suffered postnatal psychosis and a friend who, at the age of 73, is content with her decision to remain childless She also meets Andrea, a hypnotist who, after eight years of fruitless fertility treatment, was able to conceive her daughters using donated eggs after employing hypnosis.

He’s my younger brother. She didn’t even need to say anything. And I didn’t know because I was just ten years old and no one had told me.” Her mother provides her with additional information about what occurred: “I had a problem-free pregnancy… I breezed right through it. In the aftermath of a Caesarean, she recalls waking up the next morning and seeing the doctor’s face staring into mine. “It’s ok, he’s gone,” she said. “I came out for the day and left you in the hospital while I went to Justin’s cremation.”

“I came out for the day and left you in the hospital.” Her twin brother Fisher informs her, “I had a feeling I was a twin before you informed me… knowing your experience and my background, there’s a dread of losing one of us.” Despite her mother’s warnings, she decides to become a mother anyway: “I was unfortunate enough to lose a kid, but it is an extremely unusual occurrence.” It will air on BBC One on Thursday, January 18 at 20:00 GMT, and is hosted by Connie Fisher.
