Chris Stapleton Wiki/Bio

Christopher Alvin Stapleton was born in Lexington, Kentucky on April 15, 1978. Herbert Joseph Stapleton, Jr., his father, was a coal miner, and Carol J. Stapleton, his mother, worked at the local health department. Christopher grew up in Staffordsville, Virginia, with his older brother, Herbert Joseph III, and younger sister, Melanie Brooke.

He received his diploma from Johnson Central High School. He enrolled at Vanderbilt University to study engineering but left after a year. Christopher Stapleton relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2001 to pursue a career as a songwriter. He signed a contract with Sea Gayle Music publishing house four days after arriving in Nashville.

Over the next decade, he wrote a slew of hit songs for well-known artists such as Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Luke Bryan, and Thomas Rhett.

He co-wrote a number of country songs, many of which not only reached number one on the charts, but also remained there for weeks. These include Kenny Chesney’s “Never Wanted Nothing More,” Darius Rucker’s “Come Back Song,” George Strait’s “Love’s Gonna Make It Alright,” and Luke Bryan’s “Drink a Beer.”

He took over as frontman of The Steeldrivers, a bluegrass band, in 2008. The band has released four studio albums as well as one independent live album. It had two hit records while Stapleton was leading it, both of which peaked at number two on the bluegrass chart.

Stapleton left The Steeldrivers in 2010, and the following year, he formed The Jompson Brothers, in which he served as vocalist and guitarist. The band toured the southeastern United States until 2013, and they once opened for the Zac Brown Band. It also independently released a self-titled album in November 2010. At his live shows, country singer Jason Aldean performed the band’s song “Secret Weapon.”

Stapleton signed with Mercury Nashville in 2013 to pursue a solo career. His first single, ‘What Are You Listening To?’ was released in October 2013 and did not perform well. The song had previously been recorded but never released.

Many of Stapleton’s songs have appeared on the soundtracks of popular films such as “Valentine’s Day,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip,” and “Hell or High Water.”

In 2013, he performed duets with his wife Morgane, including the Don Williams song “Amanda.” They appeared on National Public Radio’s “Tiny Desk Concert” in 2015.

After the single ‘What Are You Listening To?’ failed, he began work on his solo debut album, ‘Traveller,’ which he co-produced with Dave Cobb. On May 5, 2015, the album was released.

He played guitar with a live band on the album, which included his wife Morgane, who sang harmonies. He won three awards for the album at the Country Music Association Awards in 2015: Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year.

Stapleton and his wife sang the song ‘You Are My Sunshine’ for producer Dave Cobb’s record project, ‘Southern Family,’ in 2016. He also performed a duet with Jake Owen on Owen’s album ‘American Love,’ titled ‘If He Ain’t Gonna Love You.’

Career

He also performed live at the Country to Country festival in Europe in 2016, alongside Kacey Musgraves, Andrew Combs, and Eric Church. He also appeared as a guest on an episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ performing ‘Parachute’ and ‘Nobody to Blame’ from ‘Traveller.’ He co-wrote ‘Either Way’ with Kendall Marvel and

He worked on his second album with his wife and Dave Cobb for the majority of 2016. Morgane chose the majority of the songs for ‘From a Room: Volume 1’ from Stapleton’s numerous unreleased singles. The album was certified gold upon its release on May 5, 2017. It won the CMA Album of the Year award.

His next studio album, ‘From A Room: Volume 2’, was released on December 1, 2017. The album, which he co-produced with Dave Cobb, was praised for its diverse musical styles, which included country, Southern rock, and Southern soul. While the song ‘Millionaire’ is a soul-influenced rock ballad, the song ‘Hard Livin’ is a Southern rock song.

Sir Elton John, the English singer, asked Stapleton to record “I Want Love” for one of his albums, “Restoration: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin,” in 2017.

To promote his second and third studio albums, he embarked on the All-American Road Show Tour in May 2017. So far, the tour has taken him to Alpharetta, Georgia, and will conclude on November 4, 2018, in Baltimore, Maryland.
