Angie Dickinson Wiki/Bio

Angie Dickinson, was born in Kulm, North Dakota, in 1931. The Kulm Messenger’s publisher was Mr. Brown. When Angie was 11 years old, the family moved from North Dakota to Burbank, California. She won the Sixth Annual Bill of Rights Contest when she was a senior at Bellamarine Jefferson High School in Burbank in December 1946.

A period of two years Angie had dreams of being a writer as a child because she was the daughter of a printer, but she gave up after winning her first beauty pageant. She worked as a secretary in a Burbank aeroplane parts factory for three and a half years after graduating from college. She entered the local Miss America competition one day before the deadline in 1953 and placed second. She was one of five winners in August of the same year.

In 1954, she landed her first small part in a Warner Brothers film, The Millionaire, and in 1955, she landed her first good film role opposite John Wayne and Dean Martin in Rio Bravo (1959). Her star rose to the point where she was one of the most well-known movie actresses in the country. She initially refused to play the ill-fated, sexually unsatisfied Kate Miller in Dressed to Kill (1980) because she felt her performance on the television series Police Woman (1974) had turned her into a role model, but director Brian De Palma persuaded her to accept the part.

Career

Dickinson became well-known on television and began to obtain tiny acting roles. Her breakout role was in Howard Hawks’ western drama Rio Bravo, which starred John Wayne and Dean Martin and was directed by Howard Hawks. Her portrayal as Feathers, a seductive bar lady, cemented her reputation as a rising sex icon. Dickinson, on the other hand, was unable to profit from her success. Hawks had signed her to a deal, but he sold it to Warner Brothers. She was restricted to secondary roles at Warner Brothers. In the comedic crime caper Ocean’s Eleven, she played the wife of Frank Sinatra’s character (1960). Dickinson’s film career was not helped by a later shift to Universal. The Killers (1964), in which she co-starred with Lee Marvin and John Cassavetes, was a prominent part during this time period.

Dickinson also collaborated with Marlon Brando on the film The Chase, which was released in 1966. Dickinson took on her own memorable role as Suzanne “Pepper” Anderson on the crime series Police Woman in the 1970s. In 1973, the character made his initial appearance on an episode of Police Story, and the following year, he was split off into a new series. Pepper Anderson was a revolutionary role in television, paving the door for subsequent female actors.

“Women were usually hilarious or just strong before me,” Dickinson told Entertainment Weekly. “Pepper was definitely a first.” She was seductive, amusing, and in command.” In 1978, the show Police Woman was cancelled. Dickinson starred alongside William Shatner and Tom Skerritt in Roger Corman’s Big Bad Mama, which was released around the same time as Police Woman. Stills from her sex scene with Shatner drew a lot of attention and helped to solidify her status as a sex icon.

Dickinson re-channeled her seductive talents in Brian De Palma’s Dressed to Kill not long after Police Woman finished (1980). She returned to series television two years later with the short-lived Cassie & Co. Dickinson made a bigger mark on the small screen with the 1993 miniseries Wild Palms, after other television movies and guest appearances.

On the show, directed and produced by Oliver Stone, she played a seductive villain. She has acted in a few films and television shows since then, including tiny appearances in Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt’s Pay It Forward in 2000 and Debra Winger’s Big Bad Love in 2001.

Dickinson, one of Hollywood’s most attractive performers, is said to have had affairs with a number of well-known figures, including Frank Sinatra and President John F. Kennedy. From 1965 to 1981, she was married to composer Burt Bacharach. In 1966, they had a daughter, Lea Nikki. Their daughter, known as “Nikki,” committed herself in 2007 after a decades-long battle with Asperger’s syndrome and eyesight issues.
