Cole started his career as a young Arsenal player when he left school in 1988 and was appointed professional in 1989. He made his only league appearance for Arsenal, 19, in the First Division match in Highbury on 29 December 1990 to replace Sheffield United. Arsenal has won 4–1 but Cole hasn’t scored. He also replaced Tottenham Hotspur in the 1991 Charity Shield and almost immediately struck the side netting outside of the area of the penalty. Cole was lent to Fulham in the Third Division in the following season where he scored 3 goals in 13 games.
Andy Cole is one of the most popular soccer players in the world. Our analysis shows that the net value of Andy Cole, Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider is approximately $1.5 million. Alex Ferguson, Manchester United Manager, shocked Tyneside in January 1995 by signing Andy Cole of Newcastle United for a record-holding transfer charge of £6.25 million. Cole had netted 34 goals for Newcastle the previous season, which won him the European Golden Boat and received the PFA Young Player of the Year Prize as well. In his initial season with United he picked twelve goals in 17 games, five of them in a 9-0 thrashing at Old Trafford in Ipswich Town.
Despite this great return, Cole has been heavily criticised for missing chances at a few crucial games around the end of the first season, particularly in the final campaign against West Ham in which Man United did not finish the title – for the first time in five years, they did not finish the season with anything. The following season, Cole’s 11 Premiership goals were inevitable as usual, helping United to finish the campaign as champions. They also beat Liverpool 1-0 at the FA Cup Final, completing an unbelievable second double in just three years.
Cole began the pneumonia season 96/97 and things went worse then because he had the misfortune to break the two legs on a reserve team match only a month later. This left him surprisingly out of the campaign for the majority, and only achieved six goals every season. But if it was any consolation, United still won the title again! The subsequent year saw Andy on the trail to finish twenty-five times as United’s leading scorer, but in the end the season had to be over with the United winning nothing.
What began to emerge in previous campaigns was confirmed in 98/99 – Andy Cole was no longer an out-of-the-box goal scorer. Throughout his career, he has always been regarded like this, but his skill, vision, and overall work ethic have improved after several years in Old Trafford to the extent that he started creating as many goals as he scored. At the beginning of the season 98/99, when United signed Aston Dwight Yorke, he and Cole immediately gelled and formed an attacking partnership that many considered the best in Europe.
In a season that Manchester United completed an unprecedented Treble, Cole netted 24 goals. Again, in important matches in the critical stages of the campaign, he achieved vital goals. He kept his nervousness and made a great lobby on the last day of the season, which gave United a 2-1 win over Spurs – this goal effectively won the prize. A few days earlier Andy scored the winner in an incredible 3-2 win at Juventus in the semifinal of the Champions League. Cole continued to score abundantly in the following season. In a season when the club raised its sixth premiership trophy in eight years, he achieved 22 goals and won the 100 for United. The relationship of Cole in recent years with teammate Teddy Sheringham has been well documented.
It’s true to say they just don’t like each other. During the 2000/01 season, however, they formed a positive on-site partnership. Sheringham has helped Cole to achieve a total of 10 goals, and his partnership has helped United reach a third in a row. In September 2000, Cole also managed to break with a hat trick against Anderlecht the European goal scoring record of 14 by Dennis Law. The next season, Ruud van Nistelrooy, a Dutchman of £19m, caused Cole not to be considered the first choice striker at Old Trafford. He then only played fifteen times, scoring just five goals in the 2001/02 season prior to joining Blackburn on 29th December 2001 at an estimated £8million transfer fee.
