Alexandra Stan Wiki/Bio

Alexandra Stan was born on June 10, 1989, in the Romanian city of Constanța, to Daniela and George Stan. She has a sister, Andreea, who is three years older than her sister. It was during her upbringing in the Faleză Nord neighborhood that Stan’s father, who used to work as a cook on ships, was missing for a significant portion of the time, which she says had a significant emotional influence on her.

Due to her father’s deteriorating physical condition, her family was forced to relocate to the Valu lui Traian commune in 2005, where Stan worked as a waitress to supplement their income. She recounts having low self-esteem and being ridiculed by classmates because she was poor as a child, for which she finally sought treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

With a lifelong passion for music, Stan attended the Traian Secondary School and later the Andrei laguna Faculty of Management, where he eventually quit out in order to pursue a musical career. When she was 15 years old, she had her public singing debut on a Romanian television show, which she won. She went on to compete in a number of music competitions, including the Mamaia Music Festival in 2009, which she won.

Stan was found by Romanian producers and composers Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi in a karaoke bar in Constanța that year, and they signed her to their record label, Maan Records, the following year. In a 2021 interview, Stan said that the contract was a violation of human rights and was constructed in such a way that Prodan and Nemirschi would be able to exert extensive control over her life.

As Stan describes it, her bringing up this issue, as well as the alleged underpayment she was receiving, caused various conflicts between her and them. With the release of her debut single “Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)” (2009), Stan gained minor success and began to be hired for performances in Romania. The song received significant radio playing and earned her a booking for a show in the country. Stan’s father was involved in her management for the first two years of her professional life.

The song first gained popularity in Romania, where it climbed at number one on the Romanian Top 100 for eight consecutive weeks, before spreading throughout Europe. The album went on to become a worldwide success, reaching the top of the charts in various countries and selling about one million copies in less than a year. A number of music recording certifications have also been awarded to it, including a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

At the 2011 Romanian Music Accolades, Stan and “Mr. Saxobeat” were nominated for and won numerous accolades. Stan was also nominated for and won the Best Romanian Act award at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards, as well as being nominated for the Best European Act award. As a result of the popularity of “Mr. Saxobeat,” Stan published the follow-up single “Get Back (ASAP)” (2011), which was only moderately successful, reaching the top ten in Finland and Romania and the top twenty in the rest of Europe.

After releasing her self-titled debut studio album in August 2011, Saxobeats found moderate success in both Japan and Europe, where she is now touring. In recognition of Stan’s worldwide accomplishments in 2011, she was awarded the European Border Breaker Award. Her chart success continued into 2012 with the single “Lemonade,” which was certified Gold in the country of its release.

Stan and Prodan were accused of engaging in physical violence in June 2013, which resulted in a lawsuit that received considerable media coverage throughout Romania. Stan was charged with assault and battery. The singer was taken to the hospital with visible injuries and accused Prodan of blackmail, bodily harm, common assault, and robbery.

Prodan was arrested and charged with all four counts. Even though she was on a vacation from the music industry, she released the joint single “Baby, It’s OK” with the German band Follow Your Instinct in August 2013, which did relatively well in German-speaking Europe. Stan launched her return track, “Thanks for Leaving,” in April 2014, which she described as a personal statement. The lyrical theme of the song was linked to her violent encounter with Prodan, according to several commentators.

Within two hours of its release, the follow-up single “Cherry Pop” became the most requested ringtone on the Recochoku service in Japan, and the subsequent single “Dance” achieved a similar level of success. Stan had also signed a new record deal with Fonogram Records, which was announced at the time. A little later in 2014, the singer performed Cher’s “Strong Enough” (1999) in Catalan (“Sóc forta”) for La Marato, an annual Spanish charity event, and she also made an appearance as a special guest at the Spanish Carnival of Las Palmas.

Stan released the single “We Wanna” in June 2015, which was a collaboration with Romanian vocalist Inna and American reggaeton star Daddy Yankee. The track reached the top 60 in a number of countries, including Romania, Argentina, and Italy, and was certified Gold in the latter country’s music industry. “I Did It, Mama!” was her follow-up album, which peaked in the top ten of the charts in her home nation. In the same year, Walt Disney approached Stan, and she was hired to do the voice of Inger in the Romanian version of Atlantis: Milo’s Return, which was released in 2007.

Career

Later that year, Stan made her fashion debut with an Alesta X Bershka collection, which was exclusively available in Japan at the time. She also formed the supergroup G Girls with Antonia, Inna, and Lori for the track “Call the Police,” which was a hit in Poland, and started her own record company, Alexandra Stan Records, with the help of her sister Antonia.

In 2017, Stan recorded the song “Favorite Game” for the soundtrack of the Japanese film Miko Girl, which was released in 2018. Mami, Stan’s fourth studio album, was released in April 2018 and debuted at number 119 on the Japanese album chart. Additionally, she delivered guest vocals on Manuel Riva’s tune “Miami,” which peaked in the top ten of the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in the United States; this was Stan’s first appearance on a Billboard chart in the United States since 2011’s.

The singer performed as the opening act for the 2018 Never sea Festival, which had chosen “Miami” as its anthem. Following several months spent in the United States, Stan released “I Think I Love It” in June 2019, marking her first single as a lead artist in more than a year, following the release of “Mami” (2018). In the past, she had wished to expand her music career to include the aforementioned territory, and she had also pondered pursuing a career in acting, but she returned to Romania owing to personal concerns and the health of her father.

The next year, Stan signed record deals with Universal Music Romania and MediaPro Music, and his debut album, “Obsesii,” was a commercial success in Romania, peaking at number 12 on the country’s Airplay 100 chart in June of that year. In the months of September and October 2020, the singer performed as a competitor in the Romanian reality singing competition Masked Singer România.

She also competed in the second season of the reality game program Survivor România in an attempt to “find herself,” but she was forced to leave the show due to medical complications. Rainbows, her fifth studio album, is currently under development and is slated to be released in 2021. If you ask Stan about her music, she’ll tell you that growing up in Constanța, Romania around so many different cultures influenced her style.

According to her in another interview, she was influenced by artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Rihanna, David Guetta, Sia, and Robbie Williams. In addition to high-NRG, dance, techno, house, and Eurodance music, Stan’s first studio album Saxobeats includes saxophone performances on a few of the songs. Her fascination with the instrument, which is commonly used in her region, piqued Stan’s attention.

This instrument’s inclusion in her songs has become known as her characteristic “Saxobeat” sound. Unlocked contains elements of dance, techno, pop, and R&B, which one music critic described as development in her craft. Unlocked is available now on iTunes and Amazon. The album also contains the song “Thanks for Leaving,” which is Stan’s first ballad in his professional career.

The song “Cherry Pop,” which comes on the same album, is performed in a J-pop fashion. On the subject of her first four studio albums, Stan explained in a 2018 interview that “each record marks a period in my life as a woman.” On Saxobeats, I demonstrated my rebellious side, which is typical of teenagers transitioning into adulthood; on Unlocked, I rediscovered and reopened myself in front of the audience through the lyrics of songs; on Alesta, I wanted to provide my fans with songs that they could enjoy; and [on Mami], I can say that I feel the most female I have ever felt.

Both Stan and Inna have been considered to be two of the most successful and highest-paid Romanian performers in recent years. Stan’s provocative public appearances and picture assignments garner a lot of media attention, which she loves. “I Did It, Mama!” was released in 2015 and featured a scene in which she and a background dancer perform sexual actions.

According to the Romanian Cancan and Click! magazines, this scene may have resulted in a prohibition on the video being released in Romania. In December 2019, disturbing video footage of Stan lasciviously dancing naked leaked online, prompting the singer to apologize and remove the video of the internet, claiming it had been published in error by another user. Stan is candid about her sexual preferences, and she has admitted to having experimented with the group and lesbian sex.

She has also indicated that she has experienced bisexual sentiments on occasion. Stan has indicated that she believes in God and that she has her own religious views, defining herself as a “non-traditional Christian” in her public statements. Stan has resided in a number of different cities over the years, including Constanța, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Bucharest, among others.

At the age of 16, the singer was involved in a one-month romantic connection with a Romanian actor and recording artist Dorian Popa, but the relationship ended due to alleged infidelity on the part of the singer. She also had a brief romantic relationship with the proprietor of the bar where she used to work as a server when she was younger in Valu lui Traian. During Stan’s legal action against Prodan, he and others testified that she had a personal relationship with him that went beyond their working relationship; Stan categorically disputed these charges.
