Brendon Boyd Urie (born April 12, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known for being the lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of Panic! at the Disco, of which he is the only surviving original member.

When Billy Joel received the Kennedy Center Honors, the nation’s highest accolade for impacting American culture through the arts, in December 2013, Urie performed “Big Shot” in front of Billy Joel, President Obama, and an audience.

Urie made cameo appearances in Fall Out Boy’s song videos “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More Touch Me,” “What A Catch, Donnie,” and “Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet.” Former Panic! at the Disco members Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, and Jon Walker appears in the Gym Class Heroes video for “Clothes Off!!.”

The members are shown dancing in animal costumes, including Urie, dressed as a dog. Urie also stars with Ryan Ross, Jon Walker, Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, and Spencer Smith in The Cab’s “One of THOSE nights.” Urie and bandmate Spencer Smith starred as ninjas in Butch Walker’s music video “Pretty Melody” in 2010.

After considering him for the guitarist role in high school, his pals picked him to be the band’s lead vocalist. Urie has featured in various projects, including albums, singles, musicals, a film soundtrack, an award show, and more. His songs have been commercially successful, charting high on Billboard and selling millions of copies. Urie’s four-octave tenor vocal range has earned him acclaim.

He began broadcasting on Twitch and created a non-profit organization for human rights in 2018. Urie was born in St. George, Utah, and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, with his family at the age of two. He is Grace and Boyd Urie’s fifth and youngest child. His mother’s family is Polynesian, and he is around a quarter Polynesian. He was raised in an L.D.S. family, but he abandoned the religion when he was 17 because he didn’t agree with the church’s worldview.

In his guitar class at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas, Urie met future Panic! bassist Brent Wilson. Wilson invited Urie to audition for a band in which he was a member since they needed a substitute guitarist.

Urie describes himself as a “spaz in high school,” which one classmate often bullied. He worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe to help pay for his band’s rehearsal facility. Urie sang for guests at the café regularly. He said, “I was willing to sing anything I was listening to at the moment, but I was also open to suggestions.

I recall singing certain Scorpions songs, as well as some W.A.S.P. anthems from the 1980s. It covered a wide variety of topics. Some individuals like it, while others did not. I had to respect other people’s requests, but there were a few individuals who would come in and ask me to sing for a gratuity. That’s always a good time.”  In 2005, Urie graduated from high school.

Urie met Brent Wilson while attending guitar courses at their high school, and Wilson invited Urie to audition for the position of lead guitarist for Panic! at the Disco. They needed a replacement at the time. Ryan Ross was the band’s first lead vocalist. They were pleased with Urie’s vocal ability when he stood in for Ross during band practice, and he was picked as their lead vocalist.  In 2004, he became a full member of the band.

Panic! at the Disco has produced six studio albums since then, with Urie as the main singer on all of them. The popular lead song “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” helped push A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out to 1.8 million sales in 2005. Urie also accepted lyrical authorship for their second album, Pretty. Odd.

(2008), and penned two of the album’s tunes by himself: “I Have Friends in Holy Spaces” and festival favorite “Folkin’ Around.” He also composed “New Perspective” for Jennifer’s Body’s soundtrack. Urie was born in the year 2007.

Following the departure of Ross and Walker, the band released their third album, Vices & Virtues, on March 22, 2011. The fourth album, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!, was released on October 8, 2013.

On the Billboard 200, it debuted at No. 2. Urie received “Best Vocalist” at the Alternative Press Music Awards on July 21, 2014. In 2015, original drummer Spencer Smith quit the band, and bassist Dallon Weekes was demoted to a touring member, leaving Urie as the sole remaining member of the official lineup.

Brendon collaborated on a song with Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo. “If Panic! at the Disco wants it, they have first dibs,” Rivers remarked, “but if not, it may work for Weezer.”  Butch Walker’s Panic! at Butch Walker’s featured Urie and bandmate Spencer Smith in a spoof where Urie finds Walker is a crazed homicidal cannibal, and Brendon is his next meal.

Brendon Urie was featured on Travie McCoy’s track “Keep On Keeping On” off his forthcoming album Rough Waters on March 24, 2014. Eight months later, Sarah was reintroduced to Urie by Hayley Williams of the band Paramore at another gig, and the two started dating in 2009. Orzechowski was the inspiration for the song “Sarah Smiles” from Vices & Virtues.
