Nashville Predators pictureNashville Predators, a National Hockey League (NHL) professional ice hockey team headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with one conference championship under its belt (2017).

They joined the NHL in 1998, along with the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Minnesota Wild, as one of the four expansion clubs during that time period. In its first five seasons, the team had a losing record and finished no higher than third in its division. Since its first playoff trip in 2003-04, when it lost to the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville has finished second in its division three times in a row (2005-06, 2007-08), losing in the first round on each of those occasions.

It was disappointing for the Predators since they returned to the postseason in 2009 thanks to Jason Arnott and Shea Weber, but they were defeated in the first round by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. The Predators won their first playoff series in 2010–11 when they defeated the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the postseason. Next, the Titans were eliminated in the second round, a fate they would repeat the following season.

The Predators made the playoffs for the first time in two years in 2014–15. Three series win in a row, including an upset of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup finals, propelled the Predators to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in franchise history two seasons later, starring newly acquired defenseman P.K. Subban.

The Predators won the Presidents’ Trophy for having the best regular-season record in the NHL in 2017–18 with a franchise record of 53 victories. However, the Winnipeg Jets knocked the squad out in the second round of the playoffs. Nashville finished the regular season with another division title, but the team was let down by a first-round exit in the postseason in 2018–19.

Country music in the 1950s was a rare example of a segment of the pop market being entirely dominated by huge corporations. Before independent Cadence earned the top spot on the best-seller charts for seven weeks at the end of 1957 with the Everly Brothers’ “Bye Bye Love,” only five labels—RCA, Decca, Columbia, Capitol, and MGM—had done so.

Banks, insurance companies, and a small number of specialized country-music publishing companies, such as Acuff-Rose, Peer-Southern, Tree, and the Nashville office of Hill and Range, dominated Nashville’s economy. These companies employed full-time writers to supply new songs to major labels, which they recorded and promoted. When it came time to record, Nashville-based producers chose the city’s pool of studio musicians over the singers’ own band of touring musicians. Session times were cut in half, but the sound they produced was predictable and didn’t have much sway outside of the country music niche market.

Nashville Predators Biography/Wiki

Elvis Presley recorded “Heartbreak Hotel” in RCA’s Nashville studio in January 1956 with his own trio, boosted by pianist Floyd Cramer and a four-man vocal group, under Chet Atkins’ supervision. When it was released, it sounded nothing like any other country record before it, and its worldwide success changed the landscape of what was possible in Nashville. The Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Marty Robbins, and Johnny Cash were among the many Southern singers that recorded in Nashville and burst through the barriers to the world of pop during the next few years, while Presley preferred to record in New York City or Los Angeles.

Nashville, formerly known as Nashville-Davidson, is the state’s capital (1843) as well as the county seat (1784–1963). Nashville is located in the state’s north-central region along the Cumberland River. It is located in the heart of a densely populated area that extends into seven neighboring counties.

Nashville’s city and county administrations were merged in 1963, and the government now consists of a general services district that serves the entire county, as well as an urban services district that serves the entire city. Davidson County has an area of 526 square miles (or 497 square miles) (1,362 square km). As of 2000, the population of Nashville was 545,524; as of 2010, it was 601,222; as of 2015, the population was 1,589,534.

The inhabitants of the Mississippian culture first settled in the Nashville area, and then the Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Shawnee peoples came. In 1717, French fur traders built a trading post known as French Lick in the location now known as Fort William Henry. Richard Henderson, a North Carolina lawyer who purchased the Transylvania Purchase from the Cherokee in 1775, was a driving force towards the development of the area. In 1779, he dispatched a team led by James Robertson to the Cumberland Valley to look into the area.

A party commanded by John Donelson joined them in the spring of 1780 at French Lick, where they made their home. Newcomers gathered around Fort Nashborough, which was named after Revolutionary War general Francis Nash. (A fort replica can be found in a park on the banks of the Cumberland) Aside from the Cumberland Compact, Henderson is credited with penning the colonists’ constitution. In 1784, the city was renamed Nashville in honor of the country music star.
