Seattle Mariners wikia member of the American League, the Seattle Mariners represent the United States in baseball (AL). It took the Mariners until 1991 to win their first game, an all-time record for a franchise’s first winning season. To this day, the squad is the only major-league team that has never competed in the World Series.

When the Pilots, who are now the Milwaukee Brewers, relocated from Seattle to Milwaukee in 1969, the city of Seattle sued the American League for damages. As a reward for abandoning the action, the league promised an expansion franchise in 1976, and the Seattle Mariners were added to the league the following year. When Alvin Davis won the 1984 AL Rookie of the Year award and Harold Reynolds was a two-time All-Star second baseman, it was a rough time for the early Mariners.

Ken Griffey, Jr.’s debut as a centre fielder in 1989 was the catalyst for the team’s gradual return to relevance. Fans were flocking to baseball parks across the country as a result of Griffey’s rise to stardom. Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, and Jay Buhner helped lead Seattle to two winning seasons in the 1990s, but the team didn’t make the playoffs until 1995.

The Mariners came back from a 111/2-game deficit to the Anaheim Angels with six weeks left in the regular season and won the AL Western division that year, despite the possibility of relocation due to the team’s subpar stadium and falling attendance. Martinez delivered a two-run series-clinching double in the 11th inning of the final game to give the Mariners a 3-2 victory over the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs, after they had trailed 2-0 in the series.

In spite of the team’s postseason exit to the Cleveland Indians in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), local and state legislators were moved to approve the development of Safeco Field, a new baseball-only stadium (which would open in 1999; it was later renamed T-Mobile Park). For the first time in four years, the Seattle Mariners made the playoffs in 1996, when Alex Rodriguez became yet another star at shortstop.

In 2000, the Yankees beat Seattle in six games in the ALCS. When Ichiro Suzuki joined the Mariners in 2001, they embarked on an unexpected run and set an AL record of 116 victories, but their historic season came to an end with a second defeat to the Yankees in the ALCS, ending their remarkable run.

It wasn’t long before the Seattle Mariners were once again at the bottom of their division. In 2008, the Mariners became the first team with a payroll of $100 million or more to lose 100 games in a season. It was after this fiasco that the Mariners hired new on-field and general management in 2009, and they began to rebuild.

Despite the team’s efforts, the Mariners have ended in last or second place in their division for the past five years, although the team showed indications of improvement in 2014, when it won 87 games and finished just one game away from the playoffs. However, the team’s 16-year postseason drought in 2017 was the longest in major league history.

Despite a postseason berth with 89 wins in 2018, the organisation decided to completely rebuild and dealt away Cano and most of its other experienced stars in the off-season, which resulted in a 68–94 record in 2019. Two years later, Seattle finished second in its division with a record of 90 games, but the squad again missed out on the playoffs.

Seattle Mariners Biography/Wiki

In the United States and Canada, the American League (AL) is one of two professional baseball leagues that are designated as major leagues. The Western League was the original name of the organisation when it was formed in 1893 as a minor league organisation. American League of Professional Baseball Clubs was renamed the Western League after the 1899 season, declared itself a major league in 1901, and received equal status from the National League in 1903. 15 teams, including one Canadian team, are divided into three divisions: the AL East, which includes Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays; the AL Central, which includes Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twin; and the AL West (which includes Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers).

As an actor and comedian, Danny Kaye was one of the most popular entertainers of the 20th century. He also had a long history of charitable work.

As a humorous entertainer in Catskill Mountains hotels and night clubs across the United States in the 1930s, Kaye made his name as the son of Ukrainian immigrants. That phase saw him develop the pantomimes and rapid-fire singing and physical antics that he would later use as his trademarks in his later career. After starring in the Educational Pictures short Moon over Manhattan (1935), he appeared in other low-budget shorts, including Dime a Dance (1937) and Cupid Takes a Holiday (1938).

Soon after his Broadway debut in The Straw Hat Revue and Lady in the Dark (1940), Kaye became a star with his rendition of “Tchaikovsky,” a patter song in which he reeled off the names of more than 50 Russian composers in fast succession. For the next two decades, Kaye’s films and live performances were filled with tongue-twisting melodies, most of which were composed by his wife, Sylvia Fine.

Kaye became a huge hit in New York City nightclubs in the early 1940s when he performed for American servicemen. After seeing Kaye’s act in a bar, Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn offered him a film deal. Prior to his first film, Goldwyn invested heavily in expensive musical comedies including Kaye.
