Peter Jackson Wiki/Bio

New Zealand filmmaker best known for his film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. His full name is Sir Peter Robert Jackson and he was born on October 31, 1961, in Pukerua Bay, North Island, New Zealand.

With an 8-mm camera, his family had acquired by the time Jackson was eight, his passion for filmmaking was born. In the future, he bought a second-hand 16-mm camera and began working on what was first intended to be another short film with his buddies. It grew, though, and Bad Taste has released in 1987 thanks to funding from the New Zealand Film Commission. The comedy-horror film received critical acclaim and a cult following after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

To make Heavenly Creatures (1994), he used an occurrence from real life about two teenage girls who kill one of the girls’ mothers; Kate Winslet played the lead part in her first major motion picture. Jackson and his writing partner Frances Walsh were both nominated for an Academy Award for their work on the script. As a result, we received the parody documentary Forgotten Silver in 1995 and the horror film The Frighteners in 1996.

For The Lord of the Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson broke new ground by filming all three parts in New Zealand over a 15-month period. He not only directed the movies, but he also authored the screenplays for them. It was a critical and commercial triumph for all three films, The Fellowship of the Ring (2002), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003 ).

As a result of Jackson’s work on The Return of the King, which won 11 Oscars in all, including best picture, he was recognized as best director and best-adapted screenplay.

The Lovely Bones (2009), an adaption of Alice Sebold’s novel about a murdered girl who sees her family and killer from the hereafter, was directed and co-written by Jackson. The Hobbit, Tolkien’s prequel to The Lord of the Rings, inspired him to return to the enchanted realm of the book.

In the United States, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in Beverly Hills gives out a variety of prizes each year, including the Oscar, to honor outstanding performances in the film business. A gold-plated statuette known as an Oscar was awarded to victors when the awards were first presented in 1929.

A total of 24 categories are used to select the winners: best picture; actor or actress; supporting actor or actress; actor or actress; supporting actor or actress; directing; original screenplay or adapted screenplay; cinematography; production design; editing; original score; original song; costume design; makeup and hairstyling; sound mixing; sound editing; visual effects; foreign-language film; animated feature; animated short; live-action short; documentary feature and documentary short; and documentaries feature.

Other awards given by the academy include the Gordon E. Sawyer Award for technological contributions as well as scientific and technical ones like the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for excellence in production and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. These awards are not given annually, however.

There will be a new category for “outstanding achievement in popular film” for the 2019 Oscars, the academy announced in August 2018. The academy, on the other hand, chose to delay the launch of the new category due to backlash and misunderstanding.

For a film to be eligible for an award, it must be shown for at least one week at a commercial theatre in Los Angeles County between January 1 and December 31 at midnight that year for paid admission to be eligible.  Unlike music awards, which are submitted by the musical artist, eligibility standards for documentaries and short films are different, and they must be officially filed by their producers.

Only members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are eligible to nominate and vote for Oscar nominees. Members of the various branches of the academy choose the nominations for each award category; hence, writers nominate writers, directors nominate directors, and so on. The academy is organized into numerous branches of cinema production. Academy members propose and vote for the best picture nominees in a wide variety of categories each year.

Career

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) art director Cedric Gibbons is credited with designing the award statuette, which depicts a knight standing on a cinema reel and brandishing a sword. The original figurine, based on Gibbons’ design, was commissioned to sculptor George Stanley. For a long time, the statuettes were made of bronze and then gold-plated over 24 carats.

Because of a lack of metal during World War II, the statuettes were cast in plaster. They’ve been upgraded to gold-plated Britannia from their previous version. The style, on the other hand, hasn’t changed save for the pedestal’s base, which was raised in height in 1945. A 13.5-inch (34.3-cm) tall sculpture, it’s 8.5 pounds heavy (3.8 kg).

There are three possible roots for the Oscar statuette’s nickname. The statuette’s name, according to actress Bette Davis, came from her observation that the backside resembled her husband Harmon Oscar Nelson’s buttocks. Sidney Skolsky, a columnist, insisted that he named the award after himself to denigrate pomposity. Margaret Herrick, an Academy librarian, claimed the statuette resembled her uncle Oscar and hence gave it the name. It’s unclear where the moniker got its start.

the film, often known as a motion picture or a movie, is a sequence of still photos captured on film and displayed on a screen in rapid succession. The persistence of vision, an optical phenomenon, creates the appearance of real, smooth, and continuous movement.

When it comes to portraying passion and drama, film outperforms all other forms of media. The art of filmmaking is incredibly difficult, requiring contributions from practically every other discipline as well as a wide range of specialized technical abilities (for example, in sound recording, photography, and optics). Art Nouveau, which appeared in the late 1800s, quickly became one of the most widely used and important media forms for decades to come.

The film was rapidly recognized as the first really mass form of entertainment as a business venture that provided fictional storylines to enormous audiences in theatres. Although it retained a broad appeal, the medium also evolved as a form of artistic expression in areas such as acting and directing as well as scripting and cinematography.

Motion picture art has seen several fundamental changes in its brief existence, such as the introduction of sound. It’s available now in a wide range of styles and formats, from the one-person documentary shot on a handheld camera to the multimillion-dollar epic featuring hundreds of performers and technicians from all over the world.

There are a lot of things that instantly spring to mind when thinking of the movie-going experience. For starters, the appearance of movement has a moderately hypnotic effect that keeps people’s attention and may even reduce their critical resistance. Because it was created using a scientific technique rather than a human being, the film image is incredibly accurate.

There’s also a “strong sense of being present” in the film; the cinema image appears to be in the present tense at all times. Additionally, films have a tangible quality to them, as they appear to depict real people and real things.

The conditions under which the film is optimally seen, where everything serves to dominate the viewers, are just as vital as any of the aforementioned factors. Away from their normal surroundings, they are sitting in a darkened theatre, largely secluded from the rest of the world. Because of the darkness, they can’t compare what they see on the screen with what’s around them. For a short period of time, moviegoers are immersed in the world of the film they’re seeing.

It’s not over until you’ve fully immersed yourself in the universe of the movie, though. Only in extraordinary three-dimensional effects does the audience duck before an onrushing locomotive do they react as if the happenings on the screen are genuine. As a result, special effects like these are often seen as a low point in the art of filmmaking.

Viewers are much more likely to expect a film to adhere to unwritten rules than the real world itself. Despite the fact that viewers may occasionally expect a high level of realism in terms of costume or setting, they also expect the film to transport them away from reality and force them to use their imagination, which is a requirement of all great works of art.

the perception of truth Films generally aims to achieve certain results by following a set of norms or rules that are implicitly accepted by the audience and reaffirmed by repeated viewings of the same films. In early 20th-century American films, for example, the use of brownish lighting, filters, and props has come to symbolize the past (as in The Godfather [1972] and Days of Heaven [1978]).

A film’s brownish tint is a visual signal meant to inspire memories of sepia-toned photos from a bygone era in the minds of viewers. In their distortion of actual truth to generate an effect of reality, storytelling codes are much more egregious than usual. In order to get to the most exciting parts of a story, viewers are willing to fast-forward through lengthy passages of time.

An Algerian rebel who has just revealed the whereabouts of his comrades in a torture chamber is the starting point of the 1966 film La Battaglia di Algeri (The Battle of Algiers). The destination is attacked in a couple of seconds, and the search-and-destroy mission’s motivation encourages the audience to believe in the operation’s incredible speed and precision.

Audiences are also receptive to scenes featuring unrealistic angles of view when other elements of the film indicate that the shot is real. When the rebels in The Battle of Algiers are depicted within a fortified bunker, this inaccurate depiction appears real to the audience because of the film’s grainy imagery, which evokes memories of old newsreels.
