Diego Maradona Wiki/Bio

Diego Maradona, full name Diego Armando Maradona, was an Argentine football (soccer) player who was born on October 30, 1960, in Lanus, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and died on November 25, 2020, in Tigre, Buenos Aires. He is widely regarded as the best player of the 1980s and one of the greatest of all time. He led club teams to titles in Argentina, Italy, and Spain, and played on the Argentine national team that won the 1986 World Cup. He was known for his ability to hold the ball and create scoring opportunities for himself and others.

Maradona showed early signs of football potential, joining Las Cebollitas (“The Little Onions”) at the age of eight, a boys’ team that went on to win 136 games in a row and a national title. He joined Argentinos Juniors at the age of 14 and made his first-team debut 10 days before his 16th birthday in 1976. He made his national team debut four months later, being the youngest Argentine ever to do so. Despite being left out of the 1978 World Cup-winning squad because to concerns that he was still too young, he led the national under-20 side to a Junior World Cup victory the following year.

In 1981, Maradona joined Boca Juniors and promptly helped them win the title. After that, he proceeded to Europe, first with FC Barcelona (where he won the Spanish Cup in 1983) and then with SSC Napoli (1984–91), where he had enormous success, bringing the historically poor Naples club to the pinnacle of Italian football. When Maradona was caught in Argentina for cocaine possession and earned a 15-month suspension from football, his time with Napoli came to an end. He then went on to play for Sevilla and Newell’s Old Boys in Spain and Argentina, respectively. He returned to Boca Juniors in 1995 and played his final game on October 25, 1997.

In 1982, 1986, 1990, and 1994, Maradona was a member of the Argentine national team, which won World Cups in 1982, 1986, 1990, and 1994. In Mexico in 1986, he dominated the competition. He scored two of the most memorable goals in World Cup history in a 2–1 quarterfinal triumph over England.

Career

The first was a goal he scored with his hand (the referee mistook the ball for hitting his head), which is now known as the “Hand of God” goal. The second came after Maradona took possession of the ball in midfield and dribbled past a horde of English defenders and past the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net. He was once again suspended after testing positive for the substance ephedrine during the 1994 World Cup. In 1987 and 1989, Maradona was a member of South American championship squads.

During his 21-year professional career, he appeared in 490 official club games, scoring 259 goals, and 91 games for Argentina, scoring 34 goals. Maradona was voted the best player of the twentieth century in an Internet poll held by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association.

Maradona was appointed head coach of the Argentine national team in 2008. Shortly after taking Argentina to the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals, he and the country’s football governing body were unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension, and his time as the team’s head coach came to an end. Maradona was signed as the coach of Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates in 2011. Maradona was sacked the following year as the team failed. Before becoming the coach of Mexico’s Dorados de Sinaloa in 2018, he worked for a number of different clubs.

In football (soccer), the World Cup is a quadrennial competition that determines the sport’s world champion. Every tournament draws billions of television viewers, making it the most popular sporting event on the planet.

Uruguay won the first competition for the cup, which was held in 1930 by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The competition has been held every four years since then, save during World War II, and comprises of international sectional tournaments that lead to a final elimination event with 32 national teams. Unlike Olympic football, World Cup teams are not restricted to players of a certain age or amateur status, making the competition more akin to a battle of the top players in the world. Referees are chosen from a pool of names provided by all of the national organisations.

The Jules Rimet Trophy, named after the Frenchman who proposed the tournament, was presented from 1930 to 1970. In 1970, this cup was permanently handed to Brazil, which had won it three times previously (1958, 1962, and 1970), and a new trophy, the FIFA World Cup, was introduced for competition. Many other sports have held “World Cup” tournaments.

Boca Juniors, in full Club Atlético Atlético Atlético Atlético Atlético Atléti Boca Juniors is an Argentine professional football (soccer) team headquartered in the Boca district of Buenos Aires.
