Daniel Cohen-Biran, most often known as Dany Brillant (born 28 December 1965 in Tunisia), is a Tunisian-Jewish-French vocalist.
His parents, born in Tunis, came to France as a newborn baby. They settled near Paris at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois. His uncle Nathan was a well-known luth player and oriental music interpreter. At the age of 12, the family of Dany Brilliant relocated to Paris and his grandfather provided him with a guitar at 14. He began playing at numerous events, including a major debut at “Aux Trois Mailletz” cabaret where he gained his artistic identity. He accepted the name Brillant after Jacques Boni, who had been asked by the cabaret owner to the stage: “Dany! Dany! Be brilliant!” (Dany, be gorgeous!).

Career
Brillant’s family relocated from Tunisia to France, only a year ago and settled in a village not far from Paris, Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois. When Brillant was 14, his grandfather provided him a guitar and even if he wanted to become a doctor, his studies had to share the time with his new music enthusiasm as he established a rock & roll band that regularly played in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois. When a friend who played saxophone encouraged Brillant to sing with his jazz combo, he proved lucky and soon developed his enthusiasm for traditional jazz and the sound of the swing, where he sang to the adoring crowds for five years at a standing concert called Les Trois-Maillets.
Between 1996 and 2007 he released eight high-performance albums, and became the favourite live attraction, selling a three-night stand months in advance at the Paris Palais des Congres. In 2009, he published Puerto Rico’s salsa and mambo-influenced CD. In 2012, he released a studio album and his first best-of-collection, entitled The Best of Dany Brilliant.
