Bhupender Yadav Wiki/Bio
Bhupender Yadav (born 30 June 1969) is a Rajasthani politician. Since joining Narendra Modi’s government in July 2021, he has served as Minister of Labour and Employment and Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. He is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national general secretary. He is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, representing the state of Rajasthan, which he has held since 2012. In April 2018, he was re-elected.
Yadav was born on 30 June 1969 in Ajmer, Rajasthan. He graduated from Government College, Ajmer, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree.
He was appointed general secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Adhivakta Parishad in 2000 and served in that capacity until 2009. He represented the government before the Liberhan Commission, which investigated the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid, and the Justice Wadhwa Commission, which investigated the assassination of Australian missionary Graham Staines.
Yadav was appointed National Secretary of the Bhartiya Janata Party in 2010 by then-National Party President Nitin Gadkari. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha on 4 April 2012. Yadav was the war room strategist who ensured his party’s convincing victories in the Rajasthan (2013), Gujarat (2017), Jharkhand (2014), and Uttar Pradesh assembly elections (2017). Yadav is the BJP’s election coordinator for the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2020. Yadav earned the moniker “Committee Man” due to his reputation as an expert on parliamentary select committees. In 2015, he served as Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. He currently chairs the Rajya Sabha Select Committee on the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019.
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (“IBC”), which took effect on May 28, 2016, is regarded as critical legislation for early detection of financial sickness in a corporate debtor and for timely resolution of such sickness through the implementation of an effective resolution plan, if such plan is viable.IBC sought to fill a gap in the existing banking system by consolidating the framework for insolvency of corporations, limited and unlimited liability partnerships, and individuals.
The Supreme Court of India upheld the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 in its entirety in January 2019, dismissing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of several provisions, including the prohibition on promoters of defaulting companies and “connected persons” bidding for stressed assets.
Career
The Code is being lauded for establishing a mechanism for the timely recovery of debts from insolvent debtors in India and for contributing to the country’s ease of doing business. India jumped 23 places in the World Bank’s latest Doing Business Report (DBR, 2019) from 100th place in 2017 to 77th place among 190 countries assessed. In 2014, India fell to a pitiful 142nd position on the DBR.
Bhupendra Yadav was a physician who practised at one of India’s premier medical institutions in Delhi. He had also worked for the World Health Organization as a consultant on polio immunisation projects. Despite his illustrious career, he aspired to accomplish even more by transitioning to the rapidly growing field of biotechnology.
Among the many options for acquiring the necessary business knowledge, Bhupendra chose Vanderbilt for “its strong core courses and excellent resources for learning about the health care industry.” Nothing exemplified that rare combination more than a cutting—edge project on which Bhupendra spent his first year.
Bhupendra assisted Goldman Sachs in “strategic forecasting the consolidation/M&A landscape in the health care industry in light of the new [Obama] administration’s policy changes” as part of a student team that included a CPA and an investment banker — and was mentored by Professor Michael Burcham, a former health care CEO himself. He describes working closely with Goldman Sachs’ private wealth managers as a “great opportunity to apply the classroom skills I learned to real—world situations.”
These opportunities were not only beneficial educational experiences. Bhupendra credits them with helping him secure an internship with Genentech, one of his “dream companies,” in San Francisco.
