Albret Industrie, ERMA, and Tracma were all owned by TLD in France, while Devtec and Lantis were held by TLD in the United States. Devtec’s subsidiaries were located in China and Taiwan. However, HEICO revealed in September 1998 that it would be unable to buy TLD owing to a rival proposal.
HEICO paid $15 million for PTM International, a Miami-based manufacturer of jet engine components. McClain International, an Atlanta-based private manufacturer of jet engine components, was acquired for $41 million. HEICO contributed an additional $2.5 million for the construction of McClain’s headquarters. Lufthansa contributed $9 million to the purchase’s financing. McClain had a yearly revenue of $11 million. In 1962, the company was formed by a World War II veteran pilot and employed 60 people.
HEICO’s fiscal 1997 revenues increased from $63.7 million to $95.4 million in 1998. South Florida’s aviation industry, anchored by GE, B/E Aerospace, and BF Goodrich, grew exponentially in the late 1990s. Indeed, the region ranked first in the country in terms of aviation component suppliers.
